18 New English Bible (New Testament) Passage New Testament in Greek (UBS.Ed.26)

18 1HE SPOKE TO THEM in a parable to show that they should keep on praying and never lose heart:The Parable of the Widow and the Judge Lk.18.1-8 (borders of Samaria)Ἔλεγεν δὲ παραβολὴν αὐτοῖς πρὸς τὸ δεῖν πάντοτε προσεύχεσθαι αὐτοὺς καὶ μὴ ἐγκακεῖν,
2'There was once a judge who cared nothing for God or man, λέγων, Κριτής τις ἦν ἐν τινι πόλει τὸν θεὸν μὴ φοβούμενος καὶ ἄνθρωπον μὴ ἐντρεπόμενος.
3and in the same town there was a widow who constantly came before him demanding justice against her opponent. χήρα δὲ ἦν ἐν τῇ πόλει ἐκείνῃ καὶ ἠρχετο πρὸς αὐτὸν λέγουσα, Ἐκδίκησόν με ἀπὸ τοῦ ἀντιδίκου μου.
4For a long time he refused; but in the end he said to himself, "True, I care nothing for God or man; καὶ οὐκ ἠθελεν ἐπὶ χρόνον, μετὰ δὲ ταῦτα εἶπεν ἐν ἑαυτῷ, Εἰ καὶ τὸν θεὸν οὐ φοβοῦμαι οὐδὲ ἄνθρωπον ἐντρέπομαι,
5but this widow is so great a nuisance that I will see her righted before she wears me out with her persistence." ' διά γε τὸ παρέχειν μοι κόπον τὴν χήραν ταύτην ἐκδικήσω αὐτήν, ἵνα μὴ εἰς τέλος ἐρχομένη ὑπωπιάζῃ με.
6The Lord said, 'You hear what the unjust judge says; Εἶπεν δὲ ὁ κύριος, Ἀκούσατε τί ὁ κριτὴς τῆς ἀδικίας λέγει·
7and will not God vindicate his chosen, who cry out to him day and night, while he listens patiently to them? Or: delays to help them. ὁ δὲ θεὸς οὐ μὴ ποιήσῃ τὴν ἐκδίκησιν τῶν ἐκλεκτῶν αὐτοῦ τῶν βοώντων αὐτῷ ἡμέρας καὶ νυκτός, καὶ μακροθυμεῖ ἐπ' αὐτοῖς;
8I tell you, he will vindicate them soon enough. But when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?'
 λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι ποιήσει τὴν ἐκδίκησιν αὐτῶν ἐν τάχει. πλὴν ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐλθὼν ἆρα εὑρήσει τὴν πίστιν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς;
