26	"If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.	Not Peace, but a Sword Lk.14.26-27 (Peraea) \| Mt.10.34-39 \| Lk.12.51-53	Εἴ τις ἐρχεται πρός με καὶ οὐ μισεῖ τὸν πατέρα ἑαυτοῦ καὶ τὴν μητέρα καὶ τὴν γυναῖκα καὶ τὰ τέκνα καὶ τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς καὶ τὰς ἀδελφάς, ἐτι τε καὶ τὴν ψυχὴν ἑαυτοῦ, οὐ δύναται εἶναί μου μαθητής.
27	Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me, cannot be my disciple.		ὁστις οὐ βαστάζει τὸν σταυρὸν ἑαυτοῦ καὶ ἐρχεται ὀπίσω μου οὐ δύναται εἶναί μου μαθητής.
28	For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it?		τίς γὰρ ἐξ ὑμῶν θέλων πύργον οἰκοδομῆσαι οὐχὶ πρῶτον καθίσας ψηφίζει τὴν δαπάνην, εἰ ἐχει εἰς ἀπαρτισμόν;
29	Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him,		ἵνα μήποτε θέντος αὐτοῦ θεμέλιον καὶ μὴ ἰσχύοντος ἐκτελέσαι πάντες οἱ θεωροῦντες ἀρξωνται αὐτῷ ἐμπαίζειν
30	saying, 'This man began to build, and was not able to finish.'		λέγοντες ὅτι Οὗτος ὁ ἄνθρωπος ἠρξατο οἰκοδομεῖν καὶ οὐκ ἰσχυσεν ἐκτελέσαι.
31	Or what king, going to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and take counsel whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand?		ἢ τίς βασιλεὺς πορευόμενος ἑτέρῳ βασιλεῖ συμβαλεῖν εἰς πόλεμον οὐχὶ καθίσας πρῶτον βουλεύσεται εἰ δυνατός ἐστιν ἐν δέκα χιλιάσιν ὑπαντῆσαι τῷ μετὰ εἰκοσι χιλιάδων ἐρχομέν ῳ ἐπ' αὐτόν;
32	And if not, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends an embassy and asks terms of peace.		εἰ δὲ μή γε, ἐτι αὐτοῦ πόρρω ὀντος πρεσβείαν ἀποστείλας ἐρωτᾷ τὰ πρὸς εἰρήνην.
33	So therefore, whoever of you does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple.		οὑτως οὖν πᾶς ἐξ ὑμῶν ὃς οὐκ ἀποτάσσεται πᾶσιν τοῖς ἑαυτοῦ ὑπάρχουσιν οὐ δύναται εἶναί μου μαθητής.

The katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE is a very light revision of the RSV. The changes are: (1) In places where 'the LORD', 'O LORD' occurs in the RSV, (it represents the tetragrammaton - YHWH - which is in the hebrew text), I have used the name 'Yahweh'.
(2) I have removed the quotation marks and hyphens that were used in so many names in the RSV as an aid to correct pronunciation. This now brings it in line with all other English versions, and makes any word-search more accurate.
(3) I have changed all (I hope!) of the RSV archaic language sections to modern.
The katapi New Study Bible reference section displays links to parallel passages, and to direct quotations by New Testament authors to Old Testament passages. Quotations of OT passages by NT authors can in most cases be viewed within their context of the OT passage as a whole, with the quoted text displayed, against a subdued background.
