| 23 | And to all he said, 'If anyone wishes to be a follower of mine, he must leave self behind; day after day he must take up his cross, and come with me. | | Ἔλεγεν δὲ πρὸς πάντας, Εἴ τις θέλει ὀπίσω μου ἐρχεσθαι, ἀρνησάσθω ἑαυτὸν καὶ ἀράτω τὸν σταυρὸν αὐτοῦ καθ' ἡμέραν, καὶ ἀκολουθείτω μοι. |

| 24 | Whoever cares for his own safety is lost; but if a man will let himself be lost for my sake, that man is safe. | | ὃς γὰρ ἂν θέλῃ τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ σῶσαι, ἀπολέσει αὐτήν· ὃς δ' ἂν ἀπολέσῃ τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ ἑνεκεν ἐμοῦ, οὗτος σώσει αὐτήν. |

| 25 | What will a man gain by winning the whole world, at the cost of his true self? | | τί γὰρ ὠφελεῖται ἄνθρωπος κερδήσας τὸν κόσμον ὁλον ἑαυτὸν δὲ ἀπολέσας ἢ ζημιωθείς; |

| 26 | For whoever is ashamed of me and mine, Some witnesses read: me and my words. the Son of Man will be ashamed of him, when he comes in his glory and the glory of the Father and the holy angels. | | ὃς γὰρ ἂν ἐπαισχυνθῇ με καὶ τοὺς ἐμοὺς λόγους, τοῦτον ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐπαισχυνθήσεται, ὁταν ἐλθῃ ἐν τῇ δόξῃ αὐτοῦ καὶ τοῦ πατρὸς καὶ τῶν ἀγίων ἀγγέλων. |

| 27 | And I tell you this: there are some of those standing here who will not taste death before they have seen the kingdom of God.'
| | λέγω δὲ ὑμῖν ἀληθῶς, εἰσίν τινες τῶν αὐτοῦ ἑστηκότων οἳ οὐ μὴ γεύσωνται θανάτου ἑως ἂν ἰδωσιν τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ θεοῦ. |
