| 27 | Later, when he went out, he saw a tax-gatherer, Levi by name, at his seat in the custom-house. | The Calling of Levi Lk.5.27-32 (Capernaum) | Mt.9.9-13 | Mk.2.13-17 | Καὶ μετὰ ταῦτα ἐξῆλθεν καὶ ἐθεάσατο τελώνην ὀνόματι Λευὶν καθήμενον ἐπὶ τὸ τελώνιον, καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ, Ἀκολούθει μοι. |
| 28 | He said to him, 'Follow me'; and he rose to his feet, left everything behind, and followed him.
| 29 | Afterwards Levi held a big reception in his house for Jesus; among the guests was a large party of tax-gatherers and others. |
| 30 | The Pharisees and the lawyers of their sect complained to his disciples: 'Why do you eat and drink', they said, 'with tax-gatherers and sinners?'
| 31 | Jesus answered them: 'It is not the healthy that need a doctor, but the sick; | | καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς, Οὐ χρείαν ἐχουσιν οἱ ὑγιαίνοντες ἰατροῦ ἀλλὰ οἱ κακῶς ἐχοντες· |
| 32 | I have not come to invite virtuous people, but to call sinners to repentance.'
