| 17 | One day he was teaching, and Pharisees and teachers of the law were sitting round. | 18 | Some men appeared carrying a paralysed man is on a bed. They tried to bring him in and set him down in front of Jesus, | | καὶ ἰδοὺ ἀνδρες φέροντες ἐπὶ κλίνης ἄνθρωπον ὃς ἦν παραλελυμένος, καὶ ἐζήτουν αὐτὸν εἰσενεγκεῖν καὶ θεῖναι αὐτὸν ἐνώπιον αὐτοῦ. |

| 19 | but finding no way to do so because of the crowd, they went up on to the roof and let him down through the tiling, bed and all, into the middle of the company in front of Jesus. | | καὶ μὴ εὑρόντες ποίας εἰσενέγκωσιν αὐτὸν διὰ τὸν ὀχλον ἀναβάντες ἐπὶ τὸ δῶμα διὰ τῶν κεράμων καθῆκαν αὐτὸν σὺν τῷ κλινιδίῳ εἰς τὸ μέσον ἐμπροσθεν τοῦ Ἰησοῦ. |

| 20 | When Jesus saw their faith, he said, 'Man, your sins are forgiven you.' | | καὶ ἰδὼν τὴν πίστιν αὐτῶν εἶπεν, Ἄνθρωπε, ἀφέωνταί σοι αἱ ἀμαρτίαι σου. |

| 21 | The lawyers and the Pharisees began saying to themselves, 'Who is this fellow with his blasphemous talk? Who but God alone can forgive sins?' | | καὶ ἠρξαντο διαλογίζεσθαι οἱ γραμματεῖς καὶ οἱ Φαρισαῖοι λέγοντες, Τίς ἐστιν οὗτος ὃς λαλεῖ βλασφημίας; τίς δύναται ἀμαρτίας ἀφεῖναι εἰ μὴ μόνος ὁ θεός; |

| 22 | But Jesus knew what they were thinking and answered them: 'Why do you harbour thoughts like these? | | ἐπιγνοὺς δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς τοὺς διαλογισμοὺς αὐτῶν ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς, Τί διαλογίζεσθε ἐν ταῖς καρδίαις ὑμῶν; |

| 23 | Is it easier to say, "Your sins are forgiven you", or to say, "Stand up and walk"? | | τί ἐστιν εὐκοπώτερον, εἰπεῖν, Ἀφέωνταί σοι αἱ ἀμαρτίαι σου, ἢ εἰπεῖν, Ἔγειρε καὶ περιπάτεὶ; |

| 24 | But to convince you that the Son of Man has the right on earth to forgive sins'-he turned to the paralysed man-'I say to you, stand up, take your bed, and go home.' | | ἵνα δὲ εἰδῆτε ὅτι ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐξουσίαν ἐχει ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς ἀφιέναι ἀμαρτίας - εἶπεν τῷ παραλελυμένῳ, Σοὶ λέγω, ἐγειρε καὶ ἀρας τὸ κλινίδιόν σου πορεύου εἰς τὸν οἶκόν σου. |

| 25 | And at once he rose to his feet before their eyes, took up the bed he had been lying on, and went home praising God. | | καὶ παραχρῆμα ἀναστὰς ἐνώπιον αὐτῶν, ἀρας ἐφ' ὃ κατέκειτο, ἀπῆλθεν εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ δοξάζων τὸν θεόν. |

| 26 | They were all lost in amazement and praised God; filled with awe they said, 'You would never believe the things we have seen today.'
| | καὶ ἐκστασις ἐλαβεν ἀπαντας καὶ ἐδόξαζον τὸν θεόν, καὶ ἐπλήσθησαν φόβου λέγοντες ὅτι Εἴδομεν παράδοξα σήμερον. |
