| 29 | 'This day, Master, thou givest thy servant his discharge in peace; now thy promise is fulfilled. | Song of Simeon Odes.12.29-32 | | Νῦν ἀπολύεις τὸν δοῦλόν σου, δέσποτα, κατὰ τὸ ῥῆμά σου ἐν εἰρήνῃ· |
| 30 | For I have seen with my own eyes | ὁτι εἶδον οἱ ὀφθαλμοί μου τὸ σωτήριόν σου | |
| 31 | the deliverance which thou hast made ready in full view of all the nations: | ὃ ἡτοίμασας κατὰ πρόσωπον πάντων τῶν λαῶν, | |
| 32 | A light that will be a revelation to the heathen, and glory to thy people Israel.' | φῶς εἰς ἀποκάλυψιν ἐθνῶν καὶ δόξαν λαοῦ σου Ἰσραήλ. | |
| 33 | The child's father and mother were full of wonder at what was being said about him. | καὶ ἦν ὁ πατὴρ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἡ μήτηρ θαυμάζοντες ἐπὶ τοῖς λαλουμένοις περὶ αὐτοῦ. | |
| 34 | Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, 'This child is destined to be a sign which men reject; | καὶ εὐλόγησεν αὐτοὺς Συμεὼν καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς Μαριὰμ τὴν μητέρα αὐτοῦ, Ἰδοὺ οὗτος κεῖται εἰς πτῶσιν καὶ ἀνάστασιν πολλῶν ἐν τῷ Ἰσραὴλ καὶ εἰς σημεῖον ἀντιλεγόμενον | |
| 35 | and you too shall be pierced to the heart.
