35On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, "Let us go across to the other side."The Calming of a Storm Mk.4.35-41 (Sea of Gennesaret) | Mt.8.23-27 | Lk.8.22-25Καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ὀψίας γενομένης, Διέλθωμεν εἰς τὸ πέραν.
36And leaving the crowd, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. And other boats were with him. καὶ ἀφέντες τὸν ὀχλον παραλαμβάνουσιν αὐτὸν ὡς ἦν ἐν τῷ πλοίῳ, καὶ ἀλλα πλοῖα ἦν μετ' αὐτοῦ.
37And a great storm of wind arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that the boat was already filling.
38But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion; and they woke him and said to him, "Teacher, do you not care if we perish?" καὶ αὐτὸς ἦν ἐν τῇ πρύμνῃ ἐπὶ τὸ προσκεφάλαιον καθεύδων· καὶ ἐγείρουσιν αὐτὸν καὶ λέγουσιν αὐτῷ, Διδάσκαλε, οὐ μέλει σοι ὅτι ἀπολλύμεθὰ;
39And he awoke and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, Peace! Be still!" And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. καὶ διεγερθεὶς ἐπετίμησεν τῷ ἀνέμῳ καὶ εἶπεν τῇ θαλάσσῃ, σιώπα, πεφίμωσο. καὶ ἐκόπασεν ὁ ἀνεμος, καὶ ἐγένετο γαλήνη μεγάλη.
40He said to them, "Why are you afraid? Have you no faith?" καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, Τί δειλοί ἐστὲ οὐπω ἐχετε πίστιν;
41And they were filled with awe, and said to one another, "Who then is this, that even wind and sea obey him?" καὶ ἐφοβήθησαν φόβον μέγαν, καὶ ἐλεγον πρὸς ἀλλήλους, τίς ἀρα οὗτός ἐστιν ὅτι καὶ ὁ ἀνεμος καὶ ἡ θάλασσα ὑπακούει αὐτῷ;

Notes: This page displays passages from the katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE.
The katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE is a very light revision of the RSV. The changes are: (1) In places where 'the LORD', 'O LORD' occurs in the RSV, (it represents the tetragrammaton - YHWH - which is in the hebrew text), I have used the name 'Yahweh'.
(2) I have removed the quotation marks and hyphens that were used in so many names in the RSV as an aid to correct pronunciation. This now brings it in line with all other English versions, and makes any word-search more accurate.
(3) I have changed all (I hope!) of the RSV archaic language sections to modern.

The katapi New Study Bible reference section displays links to parallel passages, and to direct quotations by New Testament authors to Old Testament passages. Quotations of OT passages by NT authors can in most cases be viewed within their context of the OT passage as a whole, with the quoted text displayed, against a subdued background.
