| 2 1 | When after some days he returned to Capernaum, the news went round that he was at home; | The Healing of a Paralytic Mk.2.1-12 (Capernaum) | Mt.9.1-8 | Lk.5.17-26 | Καὶ εἰσελθὼν πάλιν εἰς Καφαρναοὺμ δῖ ἡμερῶν ἠκούσθη ὅτι ἐν οἰκῳ ἐστίν. |

| 2 | and such a crowd collected that the space in front of the door was not big enough to hold them. And while he was proclaiming the message to them, | | καὶ συνήχθησαν πολλοὶ ὡστε μηκέτι χωρεῖν μηδὲ τὰ πρὸς τὴν θύραν, καὶ ἐλάλει αὐτοῖς τὸν λόγον. |

| 3 | a man was brought who was paralysed. | | καὶ ἐρχονται φέροντες πρὸς αὐτὸν παραλυτικὸν αἰρόμενον ὑπὸ τεσσάρων. |
|
| 4 | Four men were carrying him, but because of the crowd they could not get him near. So they opened up the roof over the place where Jesus was, and when they had broken through they lowered the stretcher on which the paralysed man was lying. | | καὶ μὴ δυνάμενοι προσενέγκαι αὐτῷ διὰ τὸν ὀχλον ἀπεστέγασαν τὴν στέγην ὁπου ἦν, καὶ ἐξορύξαντες χαλῶσι τὸν κράβαττον ὁπου ὁ παραλυτικὸς κατέκειτο. |

| 5 | When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralysed man, 'My son, your sins are forgiven.'
| | καὶ ἰδὼν ὁ Ἰησοῦς τὴν πίστιν αὐτῶν λέγει τῷ παραλυτικῷ, Τέκνον, ἀφίενταί σου αἱ ἀμαρτίαι. |

| 6 | Now there were some lawyers sitting there and they thought to themselves, | | ἦσαν δέ τινες τῶν γραμματέων ἐκεῖ καθήμενοι καὶ διαλογιζόμενοι ἐν ταῖς καρδίαις αὐτῶν, |

| 7 | 'Why does the fellow talk like that? This is blasphemy! Who but God alone can forgive sins?' | | Τί οὗτος οὑτως λαλεῖ; βλασφημεῖ· τίς δύναται ἀφιέναι ἀμαρτίας εἰ μὴ εἷς ὁ θεός; |

| 8 | Jesus knew in his own mind that this was what they were thinking, and said to them: 'Why do you harbour thoughts like these? | | καὶ εὐθὺς ἐπιγνοὺς ὁ Ἰησοῦς τῷ πνεύματι αὐτοῦ ὅτι οὑτως διαλογίζονται ἐν ἑαυτοῖς λέγει αὐτοῖς, Τί ταῦτα διαλογίζεσθε ἐν ταῖς καρδίαις ὑμῶν; |

| 9 | Is it easier to say to this paralysed man, "Your sins are forgiven", or to say, "Stand up, take your bed, and walk"? | | τί ἐστιν εὐκοπώτερον, εἰπεῖν τῷ παραλυτικῷ, Ἀφίενταί σου αἱ ἀμαρτίαι, ἢ εἰπεῖν, Ἐγειρε καὶ ἆρον τὸν κράβαττόν σου καὶ περιπάτεὶ; |

| 10 | But to convince you that the Son of Man has the right on earth to forgive sins'—he turned to the paralysed man— | | ἵνα δὲ εἰδῆτε ὅτι ἐξουσίαν ἐχει ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἀφιέναι ἀμαρτίας ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς - λέγει τῷ παραλυτικῷ, |

| 11 | 'I say to you, stand up, take your bed, and go home.' | | Σοὶ λέγω, ἐγειρε ἆρον τὸν κράβαττόν σου καὶ ὑπαγε εἰς τὸν οἶκόν σου. |
|
| 12 | And he got up, took his stretcher at once, and went out in full view of them all, so that they were astounded and praised God. 'Never before', they said, 'have we seen the like.'
| | καὶ ἠγέρθη καὶ εὐθὺς ἀρας τὸν κράβαττον ἐξῆλθεν ἐμπροσθεν πάντων, ὡστε ἐξίστασθαι πάντας καὶ δοξάζειν τὸν θεὸν λέγοντας ὅτι Οὕτως οὐδέποτε εἰδομεν. |
