57 When it was evening, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who also was a disciple of Jesus. The Burial of Jesus Mt.27.57-61 (The Garden) | Mk.15.42-47 | Lk.23.50-56 | Jn.19.38-42Ὀψίας δὲ γενομένης ἦλθεν ἄνθρωπος πλούσιος ἀπὸ Ἁριμαθαίας, τοὐνομα Ἰωσήφ, ὃς καὶ αὐτὸς ἐμαθητεύθη τῷ Ἰησοῦ·
58He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate ordered it to be given to him.  οὗτος προσελθὼν τῷ Πιλάτῳ ᾐτήσατο τὸ σῶμα τοῦ Ἰησοῦ. τότε ὁ Πιλᾶτος ἐκέλευσεν ἀποδοθῆναι.
59And Joseph took the body, and wrapped it in a clean linen shroud,  καὶ λαβὼν τὸ σῶμα ὁ Ἰωσὴφ ἐνετύλιξεν αὐτὸ ἐν σινδόνι καθαρᾷ,
60and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn in the rock; and he rolled a great stone to the door of the tomb, and departed.  καὶ ἐθηκεν αὐτὸ ἐν τῷ καινῷ αὐτοῦ μνημείῳ ὃ ἐλατόμησεν ἐν τῇ πέτρᾳ, καὶ προσκυλίσας λίθον μέγαν τῇ θύρᾳ τοῦ μνημείου ἀπῆλθεν.
61Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were there, sitting opposite the sepulchre. ἦν δὲ ἐκεῖ Μαριὰμ ἡ Μαγδαληνὴ καὶ ἡ ἀλλη Μαρία καθήμεναι ἀπέναντι τοῦ τάφου.
