26 katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE Passage New Testament in Greek (UBS.Ed.26)

57Then those who had seized Jesus led him to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders had gathered.Jesus before the Council Mt.26.57-68 (Jerusalem) | Mk.14.53-65 | Lk.22.54-55 | Jn.18.13-14 | Jn.18.19-24Οἱ δὲ κρατήσαντες τὸν Ἰησοῦν ἀπήγαγον πρὸς Καϊάφαν τὸν ἀρχιερέα, ὁπου οἱ γραμματεῖς καὶ οἱ πρεσβύτεροι συνήχθησαν.
58But Peter followed him at a distance, as far as the courtyard of the high priest, and going inside he sat with the guards to see the end.
59Now the chief priests and the whole council sought false testimony against Jesus that they might put him to death, οἱ δὲ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ τὸ συνέδριον ὁλον ἐζήτουν ψευδομαρτυρίαν κατὰ τοῦ Ἰησοῦ ὁπως αὐτὸν θανατώσωσιν,
60but they found none, though many false witnesses came forward. At last two came forward  καὶ οὐχ εὗρον πολλῶν προσελθόντων ψευδομαρτύρων.
61and said, "This fellow said, 'I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.'
62And the high priest stood up and said, "Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against you?"  καὶ ἀναστὰς ὁ ἀρχιερεὺς εἶπεν αὐτῷ, Οὐδὲν ἀποκρίνῃ; τί οὗτοί σου καταμαρτυροῦσιν;
63But Jesus was silent. And the high priest said to him, "I adjure you by the living God, tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God."
64Jesus said to him, "You have said so. But I tell you, hereafter you will see the Son of man seated at the right hand of Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven." - hereafter you will see the Son of man Mt.26.64 | Ps.110.1 | Dn.7.13λέγει αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς, Σὺ εἶπας· πλὴν λέγω ὑμῖν,

65Then the high priest tore his robes, and said, "He has uttered blasphemy. Why do we still need witnesses? You have now heard his blasphemy.
66What is your judgment?" They answered, "He deserves death."
67Then they spat in his face, and struck him; and some slapped him,  Τότε ἐνέπτυσαν εἰς τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐκολάφισαν αὐτόν, οἱ δὲ ἐράπισαν
68saying, "Prophesy to us, you Christ! Who is it that struck you?"  λέγοντες, Προφήτευσον ἡμῖν, Χριστέ, τίς ἐστιν ὁ παίσας σὲ;
69Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. And a maid came up to him, and said, "You also were with Jesus the Galilean."
70But he denied it before them all, saying, "I do not know what you mean."
71And when he went out to the porch, another maid saw him, and she said to the bystanders, "This man was with Jesus of Nazareth."
72And again he denied it with an oath, "I do not know the man."
73After a little while the bystanders came up and said to Peter, "Certainly you are also one of them, for your accent betrays you."
74Then he began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear, "I do not know the man." And immediately the cock crowed.
75And Peter remembered the saying of Jesus, "Before the cock crows, you will deny me three times." And he went out and wept bitterly.

Notes: This page displays passages from the katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE.
The katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE is a very light revision of the RSV. The changes are: (1) In places where 'the LORD', 'O LORD' occurs in the RSV, (it represents the tetragrammaton - YHWH - which is in the hebrew text), I have used the name 'Yahweh'.
(2) I have removed the quotation marks and hyphens that were used in so many names in the RSV as an aid to correct pronunciation. This now brings it in line with all other English versions, and makes any word-search more accurate.
(3) I have changed all (I hope!) of the RSV archaic language sections to modern.

The katapi New Study Bible reference section displays links to parallel passages, and to direct quotations by New Testament authors to Old Testament passages. Quotations of OT passages by NT authors can in most cases be viewed within their context of the OT passage as a whole, with the quoted text displayed, against a subdued background.
