26 New English Bible (New Testament) Passage New Testament in Greek (UBS.Ed.26)

6JESUS WAS AT BETHANY in the house of Simon the leper,The Anointing at Bethany Mt.26.6-13 (Bethany) | Mk.14.3-9 | Lk.12.1-8Τοῦ δὲ Ἰησοῦ γενομένου ἐν Βηθανίᾳ ἐν οἰκίᾳ Σίμωνος τοῦ λεπροῦ,
7when a woman came to him with a small bottle of fragrant oil, very costly; and as he sat at table she began to pour it over his head.
8The disciples were indignant when they saw it. 'Why this waste?' they said; ἰδόντες δὲ οἱ μαθηταὶ ἠγανάκτησαν λέγοντες, Εἰς τί ἡ ἀπώλεια αὑτὴ;
9'it could have been sold for a good sum and the money given to the poor.'
10Jesus was aware of this, and said to them, 'Why must you make trouble for the woman? It is a fine thing she has done for me.
11You have the poor among you always; but you will not always have me.
12When she poured this oil on my body it was her way of preparing me for burial.
13I tell you this: wherever in all the world this gospel is proclaimed, what she has done will be told as her memorial.'
