25 New English Bible (New Testament) Passage New Testament in Greek (UBS.Ed.26)

25 1'When that day comes, the kingdom of Heaven will be like this. There were ten girls, who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. The Parable of the Ten Maidens Mt.25.1-13 (Olivet)Τότε ὁμοιωθήσεται ἡ βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν δέκα παρθένοις, αἱτινες λαβοῦσαι τὰς λαμπάδας ἑαυτῶν ἐξῆλθον εἰς ὑπάντησιν τοῦ νυμφίου.
2Five of them were foolish, and five prudent;
3when the foolish ones took their lamps, they took no oil with them, αἱ γὰρ μωραὶ λαβοῦσαι τὰς λαμπάδας αὐτῶν οὐκ ἐλαβον μεθ' ἑαυτῶν ἐλαιον·
4but the others took flasks of oil with their lamps.
5As the bridegroom was late in coming they all dozed off to sleep.
6But at midnight a cry was heard: "Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him."
7With that the girls all got up and trimmed their lamps.
8The foolish said to the prudent, "Our lamps are going out; give us some of your oil."
9"No," they said; "there will never be enough for us both. You had better go to the shop and buy some for yourselves."
10While they were away the bridegroom arrived; those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and the door was shut.
11And then the other five came back. "Sir, sir," they cried, "open the door for us."
12But he answered, "'I declare, I do not know you."
13Keep awake then; for you never know the day or the hour.
