16 New English Bible (New Testament) Passage New Testament in Greek (UBS.Ed.26)

16 1The Pharisees and Sadducees came, and to test him they asked him to show them a sign from heaven. The Demand for a Sign Mt.16.1-4 (Gennesaret) | Mk.8.11-13 | Lk.12.54-56Kαὶ προσελθόντες οἱ Φαρισαῖοι καὶ Σαδδουκαῖοι πειράζοντες ἐπηρώτησαν αὐτὸν σημεῖον ἐκ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ ἐπιδεῖξαι αὐτοῖς.
2His answer was: Some manuscripts here insert 'In the evening you say, "It will be fine weather, for the sky is red"; ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, Ὀψίας γενομένης λέγετε, Εὐδία, πυρράζει γὰρ ὁ οὐρανός·
3"and in the morning you say, "It will be stormy today; the sky is red and lowering." You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky; can you not interpret the signs of the times?'
4'It is a wicked generation that asks for a sign; and the only sign that will be given it is the sign of Jonah.' So they went off and left them.
