WHEN HE HAD FINISHED these parables Jesus left that place, | The Rejection of Jesus at Nazareth Mt.13.53-58 (Nazareth) | Mk.6.1-6 | Lk.4.16-30 | Καὶ ἐγένετο ὅτε ἐτέλεσεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς τὰς παραβολὰς ταύτας, μετῆρεν ἐκεῖθεν.
and came to his home town, where he taught the people in their synagogue. In amazement they asked, 'Where does he get this wisdom from, and these miraculous powers? | | καὶ ἐλθὼν εἰς τὴν πατρίδα αὐτοῦ ἐδίδασκεν αὐτοὺς ἐν τῇ συναγωγῇ αὐτῶν, ὡστε ἐκπλήσσεσθαι αὐτοὺς καὶ λέγειν, Πόθεν τούτῳ ἡ σοφία αὑτη καὶ αἱ δυνάμεις;
Is he not the carpenter's son? Is not his mother called Mary, his brothers James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas? | | οὐχ οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ τοῦ τέκτονος υἱός; οὐχ ἡ μήτηρ αὐτοῦ λέγεται Μαριὰμ καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτοῦ Ἰάκωβος καὶ Ἰωσὴφ καὶ Σίμων καὶ Ἰούδας;
And are not all his sisters here with us? Where then has he got all this from?' | | καὶ αἱ ἀδελφαὶ αὐτοῦ οὐχὶ πᾶσαι πρὸς ἡμᾶς εἰσιν; πόθεν οὖν τούτῳ ταῦτα πάντὰ;
So they fell foul of him, and this led him to say, 'A prophet will always be held in honour, except in his home town, and in his own family.'
| 58 | And he did not work many miracles there: such was their want of faith.
καὶ οὐκ ἐποίησεν ἐκεῖ δυνάμεις πολλὰς διὰ τὴν ἀπιστίαν αὐτῶν.
