9 New English Bible (New Testament) Passage New Testament in Greek (UBS.Ed.26)

9AS HE PASSED ON from there Jesus saw a man named Matthew at his seat in the custom-house; and he said to him, 'Follow me.' And Matthew rose and followed him.
The Calling of Matthew Mt.9.9-13 (Capernaum) | Mk.2.13-17 | Lk.5.27-32Καὶ παράγων ὁ Ἰησοῦς ἐκεῖθεν εἶδεν ἄνθρωπον καθήμενον ἐπὶ τὸ τελώνιον, Μαθθαῖον λεγόμενον, καὶ λέγει αὐτῷ, Ἀκολούθει μοι. καὶ ἀναστὰς ἠκολούθησεν αὐτῷ.
10When Jesus was at table in the house, many bad characters—tax-gatherers and others—were seated with him and his disciples.
11The Pharisees noticed this, and said to his disciples, 'Why is it that your master eats with tax-gatherers and sinners?' καὶ ἰδόντες οἱ Φαρισαῖοι ἐλεγον τοῖς μαθηταῖς αὐτοῦ, Διὰ τί μετὰ τῶν τελωνῶν καὶ ἀμαρτωλῶν ἐσθίει ὁ διδάσκαλος ὑμῶν;
12Jesus heard them and said, 'It is not the healthy that need a doctor, but the sick. ὁ δὲ ἀκούσας εἶπεν, οὐ χρείαν ἐχουσιν οἱ ἰσχύοντες ἰατροῦ ἀλλ' οἱ κακῶς ἐχοντες.
13Go and learn what that text means, "I require mercy, not sacrifice." I did not come to invite virtuous people, but sinners.'
- I desire mercy, and not sacrifice Mt.9.13 | Hs.6.6πορευθέντες δὲ μάθετε τί ἐστιν, Ἔλεος θέλω καὶ οὐ θυσίαν· οὐ γὰρ ἦλθον καλέσαι δικαίους ἀλλὰ ἀμαρτωλούς.
