8	Ephraim mixes himself with the peoples; Ephraim is a cake not turned.	Israel & the nations. Hs.7.8-16	אֶפְרַיִם בָּעַמִּים הוּא יִתְבֹּולָל אֶפְרַיִם הָיָה עֻגָה בְּלִי הֲפוּכָה׃
9	Aliens devour his strength, and he knows it not; gray hairs are sprinkled upon him, and he knows it not.		אָכְלוּ זָרִים כֹּחֹו וְהוּא לֹא יָדָע גַּם־שֵׂיבָה זָרְקָה בֹּו וְהוּא לֹא יָדָע׃
10	The pride of Israel witnesses against him; yet they do not return to Yahweh their God, nor seek him, for all this.		וְעָנָה גְאֹון־יִשְׂרָאֵל בְּפָנָיו וְלֹא־שָׁבוּ אֶל־יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיהֶם וְלֹא בִקְשֻׁהוּ בְּכָל־זֹאת׃
11	Ephraim is like a dove, silly and without sense, calling to Egypt, going to Assyria.		וַיְהִי אֶפְרַיִם כְּיֹונָה פֹותָה אֵין לֵב מִצְרַיִם קָרָאוּ אַשּׁוּר הָלָכוּ׃
12	As they go, I will spread over them my net; I will bring them down like birds of the air; I will chastise them for their wicked deeds.		כַּאֲשֶׁר יֵלֵכוּ אֶפְרֹושׂ עֲלֵיהֶם רִשְׁתִּי כְּעֹוף הַשָּׁמַיִם אֹורִידֵם אַיְסִרֵם כְּשֵׁמַע לַעֲדָתָם׃ ס
13	Woe to them, for they have strayed from me! Destruction to them, for they have rebelled against me! I would redeem them, but they speak lies against me.		אֹוי לָהֶם כִּי־נָדְדוּ מִמֶּנִּי שֹׁד לָהֶם כִּי־פָשְׁעוּ בִי וְאָנֹכִי אֶפְדֵּם וְהֵמָּה דִּבְּרוּ עָלַי כְּזָבִים׃
14	They do not cry to me from the heart, but they wail upon their beds; for grain and wine they gash themselves, they rebel against me.		וְלֹא־זָעֲקוּ אֵלַי בְּלִבָּם כִּי יְיֵלִילוּ עַל־מִשְׁכְּבֹותָם עַל־דָּגָן וְתִירֹושׁ יִתְגֹּורָרוּ יָסוּרוּ בִי׃
15	Although I trained and strengthened their arms, yet they devise evil against me.		וַאֲנִי יִסַּרְתִּי חִזַּקְתִּי זְרֹועֹתָם וְאֵלַי יְחַשְּׁבוּ־רָע׃
16	They turn to Baal; they are like a treacherous bow, their princes shall fall by the sword because of the insolence of their tongue. This shall be their derision in the land of Egypt.		יָשׁוּבוּ לֹא עָל הָיוּ כְּקֶשֶׁת רְמִיָּה יִפְּלוּ בַחֶרֶב שָׂרֵיהֶם מִזַּעַם לְשֹׁונָם זֹו לַעְגָּם בְּאֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם׃

The katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE is a very light revision of the RSV. The changes are: (1) In places where 'the LORD', 'O LORD' occurs in the RSV, (it represents the tetragrammaton - YHWH - which is in the hebrew text), I have used the name 'Yahweh'.
(2) I have removed the quotation marks and hyphens that were used in so many names in the RSV as an aid to correct pronunciation. This now brings it in line with all other English versions, and makes any word-search more accurate.
(3) I have changed all (I hope!) of the RSV archaic language sections to modern.
The katapi New Study Bible reference section displays links to parallel passages, and to direct quotations by New Testament authors to Old Testament passages. Quotations of OT passages by NT authors can in most cases be viewed within their context of the OT passage as a whole, with the quoted text displayed, against a subdued background.
