30 1The word of Yahweh came to me:The LORD will punish Egypt. Eze.30.1-19וַיְהִי דְבַר־יְהוָה אֵלַי לֵאמֹר׃
2"Son of man, prophesy, and say, Thus says Yahweh GOD:

"Wail, 'Alas for the day!

 בֶּן־אָדָם הִנָּבֵא וְאָמַרְתָּ כֹּה אָמַר אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה הֵילִילוּ הָהּ לַיֹּום׃
3For the day is near,
the day of Yahweh is near;
it will be a day of clouds,
a time of doom for the nations.
 כִּי־קָרֹוב יֹום וְקָרֹוב יֹום לַיהוָה יֹום עָןָן עֵת גֹּויִם יִהְיֶה׃
4A sword shall come upon Egypt,
and anguish shall be in Ethiopia,
when the slain fall in Egypt,
and her wealth is carried away,
and her foundations are torn down.
 וּבָאָה חֶרֶב בְּמִצְרַיִם וְהָיְתָה חַלְחָלָה בְּכוּשׁ בִּנְפֹל חָלָל בְּמִצְרָיִם וְלָקְחוּ הֲמֹונָהּ וְנֶהֶרְסוּ יְסֹודֹתֶיהָ׃
5Ethiopia, and Put, and Lud, and all Arabia, and Libya, and the people of the land that is in league, shall fall with them by the sword. כּוּשׁ וּפוּט וְלוּד וְכָל־הָעֶרֶב וְכוּב וּבְנֵי אֶרֶץ הַבְּרִית אִתָּם בַּחֶרֶב יִפֹּלוּ׃ ף
6"Thus says Yahweh:
Those who support Egypt shall fall,
and her proud might shall come down;
from Migdol to Syene
they shall fall within her by the sword,
says Yahweh GOD.
 כֹּה אָמַר יְהוָה וְנָפְלוּ סֹמְכֵי מִצְרַיִם וְיָרַד גְּאֹון עֻזָּהּ מִמִּגְדֹּל סְוֵנֵה בַּחֶרֶב יִפְּלוּ־בָהּ נְאֻם אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה׃
7And she shall be desolated in the midst of desolated countries
and her cities shall be in the midst of cities that are laid waste.
 וְנָשַׁמּוּ בְּתֹוךְ אֲרָצֹות נְשַׁמֹּות וְעָרָיו בְּתֹוךְ־עָרִים נַחֲרָבֹות תִּהְיֶינָה׃
8Then they will know that I am Yahweh,
when I have set fire to Egypt,
and all her helpers are broken.
 וְיָדְעוּ כִּי־אֲנִי יְהוָה בְּתִתִּי־אֵשׁ בְּמִצְרַיִם וְנִשְׁבְּרוּ כָּל־עֹזְרֶיהָ׃
9"On that day swift messengers shall go forth from me to terrify the unsuspecting Ethiopians; and anguish shall come upon them on the day of Egypt's doom; for, lo, it comes! בַּיֹּום הַהוּא יֵצְאוּ מַלְאָכִים מִלְּפָנַי בַּצִּים לְהַחֲרִיד אֶת־כּוּשׁ בֶּטַח וְהָיְתָה חַלְחָלָה בָהֶם בְּיֹום מִצְרַיִם כִּי הִנֵּה בָּאָה׃ ס
10"Thus says Yahweh GOD:
I will put an end to the wealth of Egypt,
by the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon.
 כֹּה אָמַר אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה וְהִשְׁבַּתִּי אֶת־הֲמֹון מִצְרַיִם בְּיַד נְבוּכַדְרֶאצַּר מֶלֶךְ־בָּבֶל׃
11He and his people with him, the most terrible of the nations,
shall be brought in to destroy the land;
and they shall draw their swords against Egypt,
and fill the land with the slain.
 הוּא וְעַמֹּו אִתֹּו עָרִיצֵי גֹויִם מוּבָאִים לְשַׁחֵת הָאָרֶץ וְהֵרִיקוּ חַרְבֹותָם עַל־מִצְרַיִם וּמָלְאוּ אֶת־הָאָרֶץ חָלָל׃
12And I will dry up the Nile,
and will sell the land into the hand of evil men;
I will bring desolation upon the land and everything in it,
by the hand of foreigners;
I, Yahweh, have spoken.		 וְנָתַתִּי יְאֹרִים חָרָבָה וּמָכַרְתִּי אֶת־הָאָרֶץ בְּיַד־רָעִים וַהֲשִׁמֹּתִי אֶרֶץ וּמְלֹאָהּ בְּיַד־זָרִים אֲנִי יְהוָה דִּבַּרְתִּי׃ ס
13"Thus says Yahweh GOD:
I will destroy the idols,
and put an end to the images, in Memphis;
there shall no longer be a prince in the land of Egypt;
so I will put fear in the land of Egypt.
 כֹּה־אָמַר אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה וְהַאֲבַדְתִּי גִלּוּלִים וְהִשְׁבַּתִּי אֱלִילִים מִנֹּף וְנָשִׂיא מֵאֶרֶץ־מִצְרַיִם לֹא יִהְיֶה־עֹוד וְנָתַתִּי יִרְאָה בְּאֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם׃
14I will make Pathros a desolation,
and will set fire to Zoan,
and will execute acts of judgment upon Thebes.
 וַהֲשִׁמֹּתִי אֶת־פַּתְרֹוס וְנָתַתִּי אֵשׁ בְּצֹעַן וְעָשִׂיתִי שְׁפָטִים בְּנֹא׃
15And I will pour my wrath upon Pelusium,
the stronghold of Egypt,
and cut off the multitude of Thebes.
 וְשָׁפַכְתִּי חֲמָתִי עַל־סִין מָעֹוז מִצְרָיִם וְהִכְרַתִּי אֶת־הֲמֹון נֹא׃
16And I will set fire to Egypt;
Pelusium shall be in great agony;
Thebes shall be breached,
and its walls broken down.
 וְנָתַתִּי אֵשׁ בְּמִצְרַיִם חוּל כ= תָּחִיל ק= תָּחוּל סִין וְנֹא תִּהְיֶה לְהִבָּקֵעַ וְנֹף צָרֵי יֹוםָם׃
17The young men of On and of Pibeseth shall fall by the sword;
and the women shall go into captivity.
 בַּחוּרֵי אָוֶן וּפִי־בֶסֶת בַּחֶרֶב יִפֹּלוּ וְהֵנָּה בַּשְּׁבִי תֵלַכְנָה׃
18At Tehaphnehes the day shall be dark,
when I break there the dominion of Egypt,
and her proud might shall come to an end;
she shall be covered by a cloud,
and her daughters shall go into captivity.
 וּבִתְחַפְנְחֵס חָשַׂךְ הַיֹּום בְּשִׁבְרִי־שָׁם אֶת־מֹטֹות מִצְרַיִם וְנִשְׁבַּת־בָּהּ גְּאֹון עֻזָּהּ הִיא עָןָן יְכַסֶּנָּה וּבְנֹותֶיהָ בַּשְּׁבִי תֵלַכְנָה׃
19Thus I will execute acts of judgment upon Egypt.
Then they will know that I am Yahweh."		 וְעָשִׂיתִי שְׁפָטִים בְּמִצְרָיִם וְיָדְעוּ כִּי־אֲנִי יְהוָה׃ ף
Notes: This page displays passages from the katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE.
The katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE is a very light revision of the RSV. The changes are: (1) In places where 'the LORD', 'O LORD' occurs in the RSV, (it represents the tetragrammaton - YHWH - which is in the hebrew text), I have used the name 'Yahweh'.
(2) I have removed the quotation marks and hyphens that were used in so many names in the RSV as an aid to correct pronunciation. This now brings it in line with all other English versions, and makes any word-search more accurate.
(3) I have changed all (I hope!) of the RSV archaic language sections to modern.
The katapi New Study Bible reference section displays links to parallel passages, and to direct quotations by New Testament authors to Old Testament passages. Quotations of OT passages by NT authors can in most cases be viewed within their context of the OT passage as a whole, with the quoted text displayed, against a subdued background.
