40For thus says Yahweh:
"Behold, one shall fly swiftly like an eagle,
and spread his wings against Moab;
No escape for Moab. Jr.48.40-47כִּי־כֹה אָמַר יְהוָה הִנֵּה כַנֶּשֶׁר יִדְאֶה וּפָרַשׂ כְּנָפָיו אֶל־מֹואָב׃
41the cities shall be taken
and the strongholds seized.
The heart of the warriors of Moab shall be in that day
like the heart of a woman in her pangs;
 נִלְכְּדָה הַקְּרִיֹּות וְהַמְּצָדֹות נִתְפָּשָׂה וְהָיָה לֵב גִּבֹּורֵי מֹואָב בַּיֹּום הַהוּא כְּלֵב אִשָּׁה מְצֵרָה׃
42Moab shall be destroyed and be no longer a people,
because he magnified himself against Yahweh.
 וְנִשְׁמַד מֹואָב מֵעָם כִּי עַל־יְהוָה הִגְדִּיל׃
43Terror, pit, and snare
are before you, O inhabitant of Moab!
says Yahweh.
 פַּחַד וָפַחַת וָפָח עָלֶיךָ יֹושֵׁב מֹואָב נְאֻם־יְהוָה׃
44He who flees from the terror shall fall into the pit,
and he who climbs out of the pit shall be caught in the snare.
For I will bring these things upon Moab
in the year of their punishment,
says Yahweh.
 כ= הַנִּיס ק= הַנָּס מִפְּנֵי הַפַּחַד יִפֹּל אֶל־הַפַּחַת וְהָעֹלֶה מִן־הַפַּחַת יִלָּכֵד בַּפָּח כִּי־אָבִיא אֵלֶיהָ אֶל־מֹואָב שְׁנַת פְּקֻדָּתָם נְאֻם־יְהוָה׃
45"In the shadow of Heshbon
fugitives stop without strength;
for a fire has gone forth from Heshbon,
a flame from the house of Sihon;
it has destroyed the forehead of Moab,
the crown of the sons of tumult.
 בְּצֵל חֶשְׁבֹּון עָמְדוּ מִכֹּחַ נָסִים כִּי־אֵשׁ יָצָא מֵחֶשְׁבֹּון וְלֶהָבָה מִבֵּין סִיחֹון וַתֹּאכַל פְּאַת מֹואָב וְקָדְקֹד בְּנֵי שָׁאֹון׃
46Woe to you, O Moab!
The people of Chemosh is undone;
for your sons have been taken captive,
and your daughters into captivity.
 אֹוי־לְךָ מֹואָב אָבַד עַם־כְּמֹושׁ כִּי־לֻקְּחוּ בָנֶיךָ בַּשֶּׁבִי וּבְנֹתֶיךָ בַּשִּׁבְיָה׃
47Yet I will restore the fortunes of Moab
in the latter days, says Yahweh."
Thus far is the judgment on Moab.		 וְשַׁבְתִּי שְׁבוּת־מֹואָב בְּאַחֲרִית הַיָּמִים נְאֻם־יְהוָה עַד־הֵנָּה מִשְׁפַּט מֹואָב׃ ס

The katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE is a very light revision of the RSV. The changes are: (1) In places where 'the LORD', 'O LORD' occurs in the RSV, (it represents the tetragrammaton - YHWH - which is in the hebrew text), I have used the name 'Yahweh'.
(2) I have removed the quotation marks and hyphens that were used in so many names in the RSV as an aid to correct pronunciation. This now brings it in line with all other English versions, and makes any word-search more accurate.
(3) I have changed all (I hope!) of the RSV archaic language sections to modern.
The katapi New Study Bible reference section displays links to parallel passages, and to direct quotations by New Testament authors to Old Testament passages. Quotations of OT passages by NT authors can in most cases be viewed within their context of the OT passage as a whole, with the quoted text displayed, against a subdued background.
