| 16 1 | The word of Yahweh came to me: | The LORD's will for Jeremiah's life. Jr.16.1-13 | וַיְהִי דְבַר־יְהוָה אֵלַי לֵאמֹר׃ |

| 2 | "You shall not take a wife, nor shall you have sons or daughters in this place. | | לֹא־תִקַּח לְךָ אִשָּׁה וְלֹא־יִהְיוּ לְךָ בָּנִים וּבָנֹות בַּמָּקֹום הַזֶּה׃ |
|
| 3 | For thus says Yahweh concerning the sons and daughters who are born in this place, and concerning the mothers who bore them and the fathers who begot them in this land: | | כִּי־כֹה אָמַר יְהוָה עַל־הַבָּנִים וְעַל־הַבָּנֹות הַיִּלֹּודִים בַּמָּקֹום הַזֶּה וְעַל־אִמֹּתָם הַיֹּלְדֹות אֹותָם וְעַל־אֲבֹותָם הַמֹּולִדִים אֹותָם בָּאָרֶץ הַזֹּאת׃ |

| 4 | They shall die of deadly diseases. They shall not be lamented, nor shall they be buried; they shall be as dung on the surface of the ground. They shall perish by the sword and by famine, and their dead bodies shall be food for the birds of the air and for the beasts of the earth. | | מְמֹותֵי תַחֲלֻאִים יָמֻתוּ לֹא יִסָּפְדוּ וְלֹא יִקָּבֵרוּ לְדֹמֶן עַל־פְּנֵי הָאֲדָמָה יִהְיוּ וּבַחֶרֶב וּבָרָעָב יִכְלוּ וְהָיְתָה נִבְלָתָם לְמַאֲכָל לְעֹוף הַשָּׁמַיִם וּלְבֶהֱמַת הָאָרֶץ׃ ס |

| 5 | "For thus says Yahweh: Do not enter the house of mourning, or go to lament, or bemoan them; for I have taken away my peace from this people, says Yahweh, my steadfast love and mercy. | | כִּי־כֹה אָמַר יְהוָה אַל־תָּבֹוא בֵּית מַרְזֵחַ וְאַל־תֵּלֵךְ לִסְפֹּוד וְאַל־תָּנֹד לָהֶם כִּי־אָסַפְתִּי אֶת־שְׁלֹומִי מֵאֵת הָעָם־הַזֶּה נְאֻם־יְהוָה אֶת־הַחֶסֶד וְאֶת־הָרַחֲמִים׃ |

| 6 | Both great and small shall die in this land; they shall not be buried, and no one shall lament for them or cut himself or make himself bald for them. | | וּמֵתוּ גְדֹלִים וּקְטַנִּים בָּאָרֶץ הַזֹּאת לֹא יִקָּבֵרוּ וְלֹא־יִסְפְּדוּ לָהֶם וְלֹא יִתְגֹּדַד וְלֹא יִקָּרֵחַ לָהֶם׃ |

| 7 | No one shall break bread for the mourner, to comfort him for the dead; nor shall any one give him the cup of consolation to drink for his father or his mother. | | וְלֹא־יִפְרְסוּ לָהֶם עַל־אֵבֶל לְנַחֲמֹו עַל־מֵת וְלֹא־יַשְׁקוּ אֹותָם כֹּוס תַּנְחוּמִים עַל־אָבִיו וְעַל־אִמֹּו׃ |

| 8 | You shall not go into the house of feasting to sit with them, to eat and drink. | | וּבֵית־מִשְׁתֶּה לֹא־תָבֹוא לָשֶׁבֶת אֹותָם לֶאֱכֹל וְלִשְׁתֹּות׃ ס |
|
| 9 | For thus says Yahweh of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will make to cease from this place, before your eyes and in your days, the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride. | | כִּי כֹה אָמַר יְהוָה צְבָאֹות אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל הִנְנִי מַשְׁבִּית מִן־הַמָּקֹום הַזֶּה לְעֵינֵיכֶם וּבִימֵיכֶם קֹול שָׂשֹׂון וְקֹול שִׂמְחָה קֹול חָתָן וְקֹול כַּלָּה׃ |

| 10 | "And when you tell this people all these words, and they say to you, 'Why has Yahweh pronounced all this great evil against us? What is our iniquity? What is the sin that we have committed against Yahweh our God?' | | וְהָיָה כִּי תַגִּיד לָעָם הַזֶּה אֵת כָּל־הַדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּה וְאָמְרוּ אֵלֶיךָ עַל־מֶה דִבֶּר יְהוָה עָלֵינוּ אֵת כָּל־הָרָעָה הַגְּדֹולָה הַזֹּאת וּמֶה עֲוֹנֵנוּ וּמֶה חַטָּאתֵנוּ אֲשֶׁר חָטָאנוּ לַיהוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ׃ |
|
| 11 | then you shall say to them: 'Because your fathers have forsaken me, says Yahweh, and have gone after other gods and have served and worshipped them, and have forsaken me and have not kept my law, | | וְאָמַרְתָּ אֲלֵיהֶם עַל אֲשֶׁר־עָזְבוּ אֲבֹותֵיכֶם אֹותִי נְאֻם־יְהוָה וַיֵּלְכוּ אַחֲרֵי אֱלֹהִים אֲחֵרִים וַיַּעַבְדוּם וַיִּשְׁתַּחֲווּ לָהֶם וְאֹתִי עָזָבוּ וְאֶת־תֹּורָתִי לֹא שָׁמָרוּ׃ |

| 12 | and because you have done worse than your fathers, for behold, every one of you follows his stubborn evil will, refusing to listen to me; | | וְאַתֶּם הֲרֵעֹתֶם לַעֲשֹׂות מֵאֲבֹותֵיכֶם וְהִנְּכֶם הֹלְכִים אִישׁ אַחֲרֵי שְׁרִרוּת לִבֹּו־הָרָע לְבִלְתִּי שְׁמֹעַ אֵלָי׃ |

| 13 | therefore I will hurl you out of this land into a land which neither you nor your fathers have known, and there you shall serve other gods day and night, for I will show you no favour.' | | וְהֵטַלְתִּי אֶתְכֶם מֵעַל הָאָרֶץ הַזֹּאת עַל־הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר לֹא יְדַעְתֶּם אַתֶּם וַאֲבֹותֵיכֶם וַעֲבַדְתֶּם־שָׁם אֶת־אֱלֹהִים אֲחֵרִים יֹוםָם וָלַיְלָה אֲשֶׁר לֹא־אֶתֵּן לָכֶם חֲנִינָה׃ ס |
