| 1 1 | The proverbs of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel: | PROVERBS. The value of Proverbs. Pr.1.1-6 | מִשְׁלֵי שְׁלֹמֹה בֶן־דָּוִד מֶלֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵל׃ |
| 2 | That men may know wisdom and instruction, understand words of insight, | לָדַעַת חָכְמָה וּמוּסָר לְהָבִין אִמְרֵי בִינָה׃ | |
| 3 | receive instruction in wise dealing, righteousness, justice, and equity; | לָקַחַת מוּסַר הַשְׂכֵּל צֶדֶק וּמִשְׁפָּט וּמֵישָׁרִים׃ | |
| 4 | that prudence may be given to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the youth - | לָתֵת לִפְתָאיִם עָרְמָה לְנַעַר דַּעַת וּמְזִמָּה׃ | |
| 5 | the wise man also may hear and increase in learning, and the man of understanding acquire skill, | יִשְׁמַע חָכָם וְיֹוסֶף לֶקַח וְנָבֹון תַּחְבֻּלֹות יִקְנֶה׃ | |
| 6 | to understand a proverb and a figure, the words of the wise and their riddles. | לְהָבִין מָשָׁל וּמְלִיצָה דִּבְרֵי חֲכָמִים וְחִידֹתָם׃ | |
