| 13 1 | ON THAT DAY AT THE PUBLIC READING from the book of Moses, it was found to be laid down that no Ammonite or Moabite should ever enter the assembly of God, | Separation from foreigners. Ne.13.1-3 | בַּיֹּום הַהוּא נִקְרָא בְּסֵפֶר מֹשֶׁה בְּאָזְנֵי הָעָם וְנִמְצָא כָּתוּב בֹּו אֲשֶׁר לֹא־יָבֹוא עַמֹּנִי וּמֹאָבִי בִּקְהַל הָאֱלֹהִים עַד־עֹולָם׃ |

| 2 | because they did not meet the Israelites with food and water but hired Balaam to curse them, though our God turned the curse into a blessing. | | כִּי לֹא קִדְּמוּ אֶת־בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל בַּלֶּחֶם וּבַמָּיִם וַיִּשְׂכֹּר עָלָיו אֶת־בִּלְעָם לְקַלְלֹו וַיַּהֲפֹךְ אֱלֹהֵינוּ הַקְּלָלָה לִבְרָכָה׃ |

| 3 | When the people heard the law, they separated from Israel all who were of mixed blood.
| | וַיְהִי כְּשָׁמְעָם אֶת־הַתֹּורָה וַיַּבְדִּילוּ כָל־עֵרֶב מִיִּשְׂרָאֵל׃ |
