| 3 1 | Eliashib the high priest and his fellow-priests started work and rebuilt the Sheep Gate. They laid its beams laid its beams: prob. rdg, Heb consecrated it and set its doors in place; they carried the work as far as the Tower of the Hundred, as far as the Tower of Hananel, and consecrated it. | Rebuilding the wall of Jerusalem. | 2 | Next to Eliashib the men of Jericho worked; and next to them Zaccur son of Imri.

| 3 | The fish Gate was built by the sons of Hassenaah; they laid its tie-beams and set its doors in place with their bolts and bars. | | וְאֵת שַׁעַר הַדָּגִים בָּנוּ בְּנֵי הַסְּנָאָה הֵמָּה קֵרוּהוּ וַיַּעֲמִידוּ דַּלְתֹתָיו מַנְעוּלָיו וּבְרִיחָיו׃ ס |

| 4 | Next to them Meremoth son of Uriah, son of Hakkoz, repaired his section; next to them Meshullam son of Berechiah, son of Meshezabel; next to them Zadok son of Baana did the repairs; | | וְעַל־יָדָם הֶחֱזִיק מְרֵמֹות בֶּן־אוּרִיָּה בֶּן־הַקֹּוץ ס וְעַל־יָדָם הֶחֱזִיק מְשֻׁלָּם בֶּן־בֶּרֶכְיָה בֶּן־מְשֵׁיזַבְאֵל ס וְעַל־יָדָם הֶחֱזִיק צָדֹוק בֶּן־בַּעֲנָא׃ ס |

| 5 | and next again the men of Tekoa did the repairs, but their nobles would not demean themselves to serve their governor.
| | וְעַל־יָדָם הֶחֱזִיקוּ הַתְּקֹועִים וְאַדִּירֵיהֶם לֹא־הֵבִיאוּ צַוָּרָם בַּעֲבֹדַת אֲדֹנֵיהֶם׃ ס |

| 6 | The Jeshanah Gate The Jeshanah Gate: or The gate of the Old City was repaired by Joiada son of Paseah and Meshullam son of Besodeiah; they laid its tie-beams and set its doors in place with their bolts and bars. | | וְאֵת שַׁעַר הַיְשָׁנָה הֶחֱזִיקוּ יֹויָדָע בֶּן־פָּסֵחַ וּמְשֻׁלָּם בֶּן־בְּסֹודְיָה הֵמָּה קֵרוּהוּ וַיַּעֲמִידוּ דַּלְתֹתָיו וּמַנְעֻלָיו וּבְרִיחָיו׃ ס |

| 7 | Next to them Melatiah the Gibeonite and Jadon the Meronothite, the men of Gibeon and Mizpah, did the repairs as far as the seat of the governor of the province of Beyond-Euphrates. | | וְעַל־יָדָם הֶחֱזִיק מְלַטְיָה הַגִּבְעֹנִי וְיָדֹון הַמֵּרֹנֹתִי אַנְשֵׁי גִבְעֹון וְהַמִּצְפָּה לְכִסֵּא פַּחַת עֵבֶר הַנָּהָר׃ ס |

| 8 | Next to them Uzziel son of Harhaiah, a goldsmith, did the repairs, and next Hananiah, a perfumer; they reconstructed Jerusalem as far as the Broad Wall. | | עַל־יָדֹו הֶחֱזִיק עֻזִּיאֵל בֶּן־חַרְהֲיָה צֹורְפִים ס וְעַל־יָדֹו הֶחֱזִיק חֲנַנְיָה בֶּן־הָרַקָּחִים וַיַּעַזְבוּ יְרוּשָׁלִַם עַד הַחֹומָה הָרְחָבָה׃ ס |

| 9 | Next to them Rephaiah son of Hur, ruler of half the district of Jerusalem, did the repairs. | | וְעַל־יָדָם הֶחֱזִיק רְפָיָה בֶן־חוּר שַׂר חֲצִי פֶּלֶךְ יְרוּשָׁלִָם׃ ס |

| 10 | Next to them Jedaiah son of Harumaph did the repairs opposite his own house; and next Hattush son of Hashabniah. | | וְעַל־יָדָם הֶחֱזִיק יְדָיָה בֶן־חֲרוּמַף וְנֶגֶד בֵּיתֹו ס וְעַל־יָדֹו הֶחֱזִיק חַטּוּשׁ בֶּן־חֲשַׁבְנְיָה׃ |

| 11 | Malchiah son of Harim and Hasshub son of Pahath-moab repaired a second section including the Tower of the Ovens Or Furnaces. | | מִדָּה שֵׁנִית הֶחֱזִיק מַלְכִּיָּה בֶן־חָרִם וְחַשּׁוּב בֶּן־פַּחַת מֹואָב וְאֵת מִגְדַּל הַתַּנּוּרִים׃ ס |

| 12 | Next to them Shallum son of Hallohesh, ruler of half the district of Jerusalem, did the repairs with the help of his daughters.
| | וְעַל־יָדֹו הֶחֱזִיק שַׁלּוּם בֶּן־הַלֹּוחֵשׁ שַׂר חֲצִי פֶּלֶךְ יְרוּשָׁלִָם הוּא וּבְנֹותָיו׃ ס |

| 13 | The Valley Gate was repaired by Hanun and the inhabitants of Zanoah; they rebuilt it and set its doors in place with their bolts and bars, and they repaired a thousand cubits of the wall as far as the Dung Gate. | | אֵת שַׁעַר הַגַּיְא הֶחֱזִיק חָנוּן וְיֹשְׁבֵי זָנֹוחַ הֵמָּה בָנוּהוּ וַיַּעֲמִידוּ דַּלְתֹתָיו מַנְעֻלָיו וּבְרִיחָיו וְאֶלֶף אַמָּה בַּחֹומָה עַד שַׁעַר הָשֲׁפֹות׃ |

| 14 | The Dung Gate itself was repaired by Malchiah son of Rechab, ruler of the district of Beth-hakkerem; he rebuilt prob. rdg, Heb he will rebuild it and set its doors in place with their bolts and bars. | | וְאֵת שַׁעַר הָאַשְׁפֹּות הֶחֱזִיק מַלְכִּיָּה בֶן־רֵכָב שַׂר פֶּלֶךְ בֵּית־הַכָּרֶם הוּא יִבְנֶנּוּ וְיַעֲמִיד דַּלְתֹתָיו מַנְעֻלָיו וּבְרִיחָיו׃ ס |

| 15 | The Fountain Gate was repaired by Shallun son of Col-hozeh, ruler of the district of Mizpah; he rebuilt it and roofed it and set its doors in place with their bolts and bars; and he built the wall of the Pool of Shelah next to the king's garden and onwards as far as the steps leading down from the City of David.

| 16 | After him Nehemiah son of Azbuk, ruler of half the district of Beth-zur, did the repairs as far as a point opposite the burial-place of David, as far its the artificial pool and the House of the Heroes Or and the barracks. | | אַחֲרָיו הֶחֱזִיק נְחֶמְיָה בֶן־עַזְבּוּק שַׂר חֲצִי פֶּלֶךְ בֵּית־צוּר עַד־נֶגֶד קִבְרֵי דָוִיד וְעַד־הַבְּרֵכָה הָעֲשׂוּיָה וְעַד בֵּית הַגִּבֹּרִים׃ ס |
