1 1Solomon the son of David established himself in his kingdom, and Yahweh his God was with him and made him exceedingly great.CHRONICLES 2. SOLOMON king of the United kingdom. Prays for wisdom.
2Solomon spoke to all Israel, to the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, to the judges, and to all the leaders in all Israel, the heads of fathers' houses.
3And Solomon, and all the assembly with him, went to the high place that was at Gibeon; for the tent of meeting of God, which Moses the servant of Yahweh had made in the wilderness, was there.
4(But David had brought up the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim to the place that David had prepared for it, for he had pitched a tent for it in Jerusalem.)
5Moreover the bronze altar that Bezalel the son of Uri, son of Hur, had made, was there before the tabernacle of Yahweh. And Solomon and the assembly sought Yahweh.
6And Solomon went up there to the bronze altar before Yahweh, which was at the tent of meeting, and offered a thousand burnt offerings upon it.
7In that night God appeared to Solomon, and said to him, "Ask what I shall give you."
8And Solomon said to God, "You have shown great and steadfast love to David my father, and have made me king in his stead.
9 O Yahweh God, let your promise to David my father be now fulfilled, for you have made me king over a people as many as the dust of the earth.
10Give me now wisdom and knowledge to go out and come in before this people, for who can rule this your people, that is so great?"
11God answered Solomon, "Because this was in your heart, and you have not asked possessions, wealth, honour, or the life of those who hate you, and have not even asked long life, but have asked wisdom and knowledge for yourself that you may rule my people over whom I have made you king, וַיֹּאמֶר־אֱלֹהִים לִשְׁלֹמֹה יַעַן אֲשֶׁר הָיְתָה זֹאת עִם־לְבָבֶךָ וְלֹא־שָׁאַלְתָּ עֹשֶׁר נְכָסִים וְכָבֹוד וְאֵת נֶפֶשׁ שֹׂנְאֶיךָ וְגַם־יָמִים רַבִּים לֹא שָׁאָלְתָּ וַתִּשְׁאַל־לְךָ חָכְמָה וּמַדָּע אֲשֶׁר תִּשְׁפֹּוט אֶת־עַמִּי אֲשֶׁר הִמְלַכְתִּיךָ עָלָיו׃
12wisdom and knowledge are granted to you. I will also give you riches, possessions, and honour, such as none of the kings had who were before you, and none after you shall have the like."

Notes: This page displays passages from the katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE.
The katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE is a very light revision of the RSV. The changes are: (1) In places where 'the LORD', 'O LORD' occurs in the RSV, (it represents the tetragrammaton - YHWH - which is in the hebrew text), I have used the name 'Yahweh'.
(2) I have removed the quotation marks and hyphens that were used in so many names in the RSV as an aid to correct pronunciation. This now brings it in line with all other English versions, and makes any word-search more accurate.
(3) I have changed all (I hope!) of the RSV archaic language sections to modern.

The katapi New Study Bible reference section displays links to parallel passages, and to direct quotations by New Testament authors to Old Testament passages. Quotations of OT passages by NT authors can in most cases be viewed within their context of the OT passage as a whole, with the quoted text displayed, against a subdued background.
