2Dan, Joseph, Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher. דָּן יֹוסֵף וּבִנְיָמִן נַפְתָּלִי גָּד וְאָשֵׁר׃ ס
3The sons of Judah: Er, Onan, and Shelah; these three Bathshua the Canaanitess bore to him. Now Er, Judah's first-born, was wicked in the sight of Yahweh, and he slew him. בְּנֵי יְהוּדָה עֵר וְאֹוןָן וְשֵׁלָה שְׁלֹושָׁה נֹולַד לֹו מִבַּת־שׁוּעַ הַכְּנַעֲנִית וַיְהִי עֵר בְּכֹור יְהוּדָה רַע בְּעֵינֵי יְהוָה וַיְמִיתֵהוּ׃ ס
4His daughter-in-law Tamar also bore him Perez and Zerah. Judah had five sons in all. וְתָמָר כַּלָּתֹו יָלְדָה לֹּו אֶת־פֶּרֶץ וְאֶת־זָרַח כָּל־בְּנֵי יְהוּדָה חֲמִשָּׁה׃ ס
5The sons of Perez: Hezron and Hamul. בְּנֵי־פֶרֶץ חֶצְרֹון וְחָמוּל׃ ס
6The sons of Zerah: Zimri, Ethan, Heman, Calcol, and Dara, five in all. וּבְנֵי זֶרַח זִמְרִי וְאֵיתָן וְהֵימָן וְכַלְכֹּל וָדָרַע כֻּלָּם חֲמִשָּׁה׃ ס
7The sons of Carmi: Achar, the troubler of Israel, who transgressed in the matter of the devoted thing; וּבְנֵי כַּרְמִי עָכָר עֹוכֵר יִשְׂרָאֵל אֲשֶׁר מָעַל בַּחֵרֶם׃ ס
8and Ethan's son was Azariah. וּבְנֵי אֵיתָן עֲזַרְיָה׃

The katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE is a very light revision of the RSV. The changes are: (1) In places where 'the LORD', 'O LORD' occurs in the RSV, (it represents the tetragrammaton - YHWH - which is in the hebrew text), I have used the name 'Yahweh'.
(2) I have removed the quotation marks and hyphens that were used in so many names in the RSV as an aid to correct pronunciation. This now brings it in line with all other English versions, and makes any word-search more accurate.
(3) I have changed all (I hope!) of the RSV archaic language sections to modern.

Quotations of OT passages by NT authors can in most cases be viewed within their context of the OT passage as a whole, with the quoted text displayed, against a subdued background.
