8 katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE Passage Biblia Hebraica

12Then Solomon said,

"Yahweh has set the sun in the heavens,
but has said that he would dwell in thick darkness.

13I have built you an exalted house,
a place for you to dwell in for ever."
14Then the king faced about, and blessed all the assembly of Israel, while all the assembly of Israel stood.Solomon's address to the people.
15And he said, "Blessed be Yahweh, the God of Israel, who with his hand has fulfilled what he promised with his mouth to David my father, saying, וַיֹּאמֶר בָּרוּךְ יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר בְּפִיו אֵת דָּוִד אָבִי וּבְיָדֹו מִלֵּא לֵאמֹר׃
16Since the day that I brought my people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city in all the tribes of Israel in which to build a house, that my name might be there; but I chose David to be over my people Israel.'
17Now it was in the heart of David my father to build a house for the name of Yahweh, the God of Israel.
18But Yahweh said to David my father, 'Whereas it was in your heart to build a house for my name, you did well that it was in your heart;
19nevertheless you shall not build the house, but your son who shall be born to you shall build the house for my name.'
20Now Yahweh has fulfilled his promise which he made; for I have risen in the place of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as Yahweh promised, and I have built the house for the name of Yahweh, the God of Israel.
21And there I have provided a place for the ark, in which is the covenant of Yahweh which he made with our fathers, when he brought them out of the land of Egypt."

Notes: This page displays passages from the katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE.
The katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE is a very light revision of the RSV. The changes are: (1) In places where 'the LORD', 'O LORD' occurs in the RSV, (it represents the tetragrammaton - YHWH - which is in the hebrew text), I have used the name 'Yahweh'.
(2) I have removed the quotation marks and hyphens that were used in so many names in the RSV as an aid to correct pronunciation. This now brings it in line with all other English versions, and makes any word-search more accurate.
(3) I have changed all (I hope!) of the RSV archaic language sections to modern.

The katapi New Study Bible reference section displays links to parallel passages, and to direct quotations by New Testament authors to Old Testament passages. Quotations of OT passages by NT authors can in most cases be viewed within their context of the OT passage as a whole, with the quoted text displayed, against a subdued background.
