30 katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE Passage Old Testament in Greek (Septuagint)

14Better off is a poor man who is well and strong in constitution
than a rich man who is severely afflicted in body.
Health.
15Health and soundness are better than all gold,
and a robust body than countless riches.
16There is no wealth better than health of body,
and there is no gladness above joy of heart.
17Death is better than a miserable life,
and eternal rest than chronic sickness.
18Good things poured out upon a mouth that is closed
are like offerings of food placed upon a grave.
19Of what use to an idol is an offering of fruit?
For it can neither eat nor smell.
So is he who is afflicted by the Lord;
 τί συμφέρει κάρπωσις εἰδώλῳ;
20he sees with his eyes and groans,
like a eunuch who embraces a maiden and groans.

Notes: This page displays passages from the katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE.
The katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE is a very light revision of the RSV. The changes are: (1) In places where 'the LORD', 'O LORD' occurs in the RSV, (it represents the tetragrammaton - YHWH - which is in the hebrew text), I have used the name 'Yahweh'.
(2) I have removed the quotation marks and hyphens that were used in so many names in the RSV as an aid to correct pronunciation. This now brings it in line with all other English versions, and makes any word-search more accurate.
(3) I have changed all (I hope!) of the RSV archaic language sections to modern.

The katapi New Study Bible reference section displays links to parallel passages, and to direct quotations by New Testament authors to Old Testament passages. Quotations of OT passages by NT authors can in most cases be viewed within their context of the OT passage as a whole, with the quoted text displayed, against a subdued background.
