1 katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE Passage Old Testament in Greek (Septuagint)

6For wisdom is a kindly spirit
and will not free a blasphemer from the guilt of his words;
because God is witness of his inmost feelings,
and a true observer of his heart,
and a hearer of his tongue.
God knows Wis.1.6-11φιλάνθρωπον γὰρ πνεῦμα σοφία,
καὶ οὐκ ἀθῳώσει βλάσφημον ἀπὸ χειλέων αὐτοῦ·
ὅτι τῶν νεφρῶν αὐτοῦ μάρτυς ὁ θεὸς,
καὶ τῆς καρδίας αὐτοῦ ἐπίσκοπος ἀληθὴς
καὶ τῆς γλώσσης ἀκουστής.
7Because the Spirit of the Lord has filled the world,
and that which holds all things together knows what is said;
 ὅτι πνεῦμα κυρίου πεπλήρωκεν τὴν οἰκουμένην,
καὶ τὸ συνέχον τὰ πάντα γνῶσιν ἔχει φωνῆς.
8therefore no one who utters unrighteous things will escape notice,
and justice, when it punishes, will not pass him by.
 διὰ τοῦτο φθεγγόμενος ἄδικα οὐδεὶς μὴ λάθῃ,
οὐδὲ μὴ παροδεύσῃ αὐτὸν ἐλέγχουσα ἡ δίκη.
9For inquiry will be made into the counsels of an ungodly man,
and a report of his words will come to the Lord,
to convict him of his lawless deeds;
 ἐν γὰρ διαβουλίοις ἀσεβοῦς ἐξέτασις ἔσται,
λόγων δὲ αὐτοῦ ἀκοὴ πρὸς κύριον ἥξει
εἰς ἔλεγχον ἀνομημάτων αὐτοῦ·
10because a jealous ear hears all things,
and the sound of murmurings does not go unheard.
 ὅτι οὖς ζηλώσεως ἀκροᾶται τὰ πάντα,
καὶ θροῦς γογγυσμῶν οὐκ ἀποκρύπτεται.
11Beware then of useless murmuring,
and keep your tongue from slander;
because no secret word is without result,
and a lying mouth destroys the soul.
 Φυλάξασθε τοίνυν γογγυσμὸν ἀνωφελῆ,
καὶ ἀπὸ καταλαλιᾶς φείσασθε γλώσσης·
ὅτι φθέγμα λαθραῖον κενὸν οὐ πορεύσεται,
στόμα δὲ καταψευδόμενον ἀναιρεῖ ψυχήν.

Notes: This page displays passages from the katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE.
The katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE is a very light revision of the RSV. The changes are: (1) In places where 'the LORD', 'O LORD' occurs in the RSV, (it represents the tetragrammaton - YHWH - which is in the hebrew text), I have used the name 'Yahweh'.
(2) I have removed the quotation marks and hyphens that were used in so many names in the RSV as an aid to correct pronunciation. This now brings it in line with all other English versions, and makes any word-search more accurate.
(3) I have changed all (I hope!) of the RSV archaic language sections to modern.

The katapi New Study Bible reference section displays links to parallel passages, and to direct quotations by New Testament authors to Old Testament passages. Quotations of OT passages by NT authors can in most cases be viewed within their context of the OT passage as a whole, with the quoted text displayed, against a subdued background.
