| 31 | When Yahweh saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb; but Rachel was barren. | Jacob's children. Gn.29.31-30.24 | וַיַּרְא יְהוָה כִּי־שְׂנוּאָה לֵאָה וַיִּפְתַּח אֶת־רַחְמָהּ וְרָחֵל עֲקָרָה׃ |

| 32 | And Leah conceived and bore a son, and she called his name Reuben; for she said, "Because Yahweh has looked upon my affliction; surely now my husband will love me." | | וַתַּהַר לֵאָה וַתֵּלֶד בֵּן וַתִּקְרָא שְׁמֹו רְאוּבֵן כִּי אָמְרָה כִּי־רָאָה יְהוָה בְּעָנְיִי כִּי עַתָּה יֶאֱהָבַנִי אִישִׁי׃ |

| 33 | She conceived again and bore a son, and said, "Because Yahweh has heard that I am hated, he has given me this son also"; and she called his name Simeon. | | וַתַּהַר עֹוד וַתֵּלֶד בֵּן וַתֹּאמֶר כִּי־שָׁמַע יְהוָה כִּי־שְׂנוּאָה אָנֹכִי וַיִּתֶּן־לִי גַּם־אֶת־זֶה וַתִּקְרָא שְׁמֹו שִׁמְעֹון׃ |

| 34 | Again she conceived and bore a son, and said, "Now this time my husband will be joined to me, because I have borne him three sons"; therefore his name was called Levi. | | וַתַּהַר עֹוד וַתֵּלֶד בֵּן וַתֹּאמֶר עַתָּה הַפַּעַם יִלָּוֶה אִישִׁי אֵלַי כִּי־יָלַדְתִּי לֹו שְׁלֹשָׁה בָנִים עַל־כֵּן קָרָא־שְׁמֹו לֵוִי׃ |

| 35 | And she conceived again and bore a son, and said, "This time I will praise Yahweh"; therefore she called his name Judah; then she ceased bearing. | | וַתַּהַר עֹוד וַתֵּלֶד בֵּן וַתֹּאמֶר הַפַּעַם אֹודֶה אֶת־יְהוָה עַל־כֵּן קָרְאָה שְׁמֹו יְהוּדָה וַתַּעֲמֹד מִלֶּדֶת׃ |

| 30 1 | When Rachel saw that she bore Jacob no children, she envied her sister; and she said to Jacob, "Give me children, or I shall die!" | | וַתֵּרֶא רָחֵל כִּי לֹא יָלְדָה לְיַעֲקֹב וַתְּקַנֵּא רָחֵל בַּאֲחֹתָהּ וַתֹּאמֶר אֶל־יַעֲקֹב הָבָה־לִּי בָנִים וְאִם־אַיִן מֵתָה אָנֹכִי׃ |

| 2 | Jacob's anger was kindled against Rachel, and he said, "Am I in the place of God, who has withheld from you the fruit of the womb?" | | וַיִּחַר־אַף יַעֲקֹב בְּרָחֵל וַיֹּאמֶר הֲתַחַת אֱלֹהִים אָנֹכִי אֲשֶׁר־מָנַע מִמֵּךְ פְּרִי־בָטֶן׃ |

| 3 | Then she said, "Here is my maid Bilhah; go in to her, that she may bear upon my knees, and even I may have children through her." | | וַתֹּאמֶר הִנֵּה אֲמָתִי בִלְהָה בֹּא אֵלֶיהָ וְתֵלֵד עַל־בִּרְכַּי וְאִבָּנֶה גַם־אָנֹכִי מִמֶּנָּה׃ |

| 4 | So she gave him her maid Bilhah as a wife; and Jacob went in to her. | | וַתִּתֶּן־לֹו אֶת־בִּלְהָה שִׁפְחָתָהּ לְאִשָּׁה וַיָּבֹא אֵלֶיהָ יַעֲקֹב׃ |

| 5 | And Bilhah conceived and bore Jacob a son. | | וַתַּהַר בִּלְהָה וַתֵּלֶד לְיַעֲקֹב בֵּן׃ |
|
| 6 | Then Rachel said, "God has judged me, and has also heard my voice and given me a son"; therefore she called his name Dan. | | וַתֹּאמֶר רָחֵל דָּנַנִּי אֱלֹהִים וְגַם שָׁמַע בְּקֹלִי וַיִּתֶּן־לִי בֵּן עַל־כֵּן קָרְאָה שְׁמֹו דָּן׃ |

| 7 | Rachel's maid Bilhah conceived again and bore Jacob a second son. | | וַתַּהַר עֹוד וַתֵּלֶד בִּלְהָה שִׁפְחַת רָחֵל בֵּן שֵׁנִי לְיַעֲקֹב׃ |
|
| 8 | Then Rachel said, "With mighty wrestlings I have wrestled with my sister, and have prevailed"; so she called his name Naphtali. | | וַתֹּאמֶר רָחֵל נַפְתּוּלֵי אֱלֹהִים נִפְתַּלְתִּי עִם־אֲחֹתִי גַּם־יָכֹלְתִּי וַתִּקְרָא שְׁמֹו נַפְתָּלִי׃ |

| 9 | When Leah saw that she had ceased bearing children, she took her maid Zilpah and gave her to Jacob as a wife. | | וַתֵּרֶא לֵאָה כִּי עָמְדָה מִלֶּדֶת וַתִּקַּח אֶת־זִלְפָּה שִׁפְחָתָהּ וַתִּתֵּן אֹתָהּ לְיַעֲקֹב לְאִשָּׁה׃ |

| 10 | Then Leah's maid Zilpah bore Jacob a son. | | וַתֵּלֶד זִלְפָּה שִׁפְחַת לֵאָה לְיַעֲקֹב בֵּן׃ |
|
| 11 | And Leah said, "Good fortune!" so she called his name Gad. | | וַתֹּאמֶר לֵאָה כ= בְּגָד ק= בָּא ק= גָד וַתִּקְרָא אֶת־שְׁמֹו גָּד׃ |
|
| 12 | Leah's maid Zilpah bore Jacob a second son. | | וַתֵּלֶד זִלְפָּה שִׁפְחַת לֵאָה בֵּן שֵׁנִי לְיַעֲקֹב׃ |
|
| 13 | And Leah said, "Happy am I! For the women will call me happy"; so she called his name Asher. | | וַתֹּאמֶר לֵאָה בְּאָשְׁרִי כִּי אִשְּׁרוּנִי בָּנֹות וַתִּקְרָא אֶת־שְׁמֹו אָשֵׁר׃ |

| 14 | In the days of wheat harvest Reuben went and found mandrakes in the field, and brought them to his mother Leah. Then Rachel said to Leah, "Give me, I pray, some of your son's mandrakes." | | וַיֵּלֶךְ רְאוּבֵן בִּימֵי קְצִיר־חִטִּים וַיִּמְצָא דוּדָאִים בַּשָּׂדֶה וַיָּבֵא אֹתָם אֶל־לֵאָה אִמֹּו וַתֹּאמֶר רָחֵל אֶל־לֵאָה תְּנִי־נָא לִי מִדּוּדָאֵי בְּנֵךְ׃ |

| 15 | But she said to her, "Is it a small matter that you have taken away my husband? Would you take away my son's mandrakes also?" Rachel said, "Then he may lie with you tonight for your son's mandrakes." | | וַתֹּאמֶר לָהּ הַמְעַט קַחְתֵּךְ אֶת־אִישִׁי וְלָקַחַת גַּם אֶת־דּוּדָאֵי בְּנִי וַתֹּאמֶר רָחֵל לָכֵן יִשְׁכַּב עִמָּךְ הַלַּיְלָה תַּחַת דּוּדָאֵי בְנֵךְ׃ |

| 16 | When Jacob came from the field in the evening, Leah went out to meet him, and said, "You must come in to me; for I have hired you with my son's mandrakes." So he lay with her that night. | | וַיָּבֹא יַעֲקֹב מִן־הַשָּׂדֶה בָּעֶרֶב וַתֵּצֵא לֵאָה לִקְרָאתֹו וַתֹּאמֶר אֵלַי תָּבֹוא כִּי שָׂכֹר שְׂכַרְתִּיךָ בְּדוּדָאֵי בְּנִי וַיִּשְׁכַּב עִמָּהּ בַּלַּיְלָה הוּא׃ |

| 17 | And God hearkened to Leah, and she conceived and bore Jacob a fifth son. | | וַיִּשְׁמַע אֱלֹהִים אֶל־לֵאָה וַתַּהַר וַתֵּלֶד לְיַעֲקֹב בֵּן חֲמִישִׁי׃ |
|
| 18 | Leah said, "God has given me my hire because I gave my maid to my husband"; so she called his name Issachar. | | וַתֹּאמֶר לֵאָה נָתַן אֱלֹהִים שְׂכָרִי אֲשֶׁר־נָתַתִּי שִׁפְחָתִי לְאִישִׁי וַתִּקְרָא שְׁמֹו יִשָּׂשכָר׃ |
|
| 19 | And Leah conceived again, and she bore Jacob a sixth son. | | וַתַּהַר עֹוד לֵאָה וַתֵּלֶד בֵּן־שִׁשִּׁי לְּיַעֲקֹב׃ |
|
| 20 | Then Leah said, "God has endowed me with a good dowry; now my husband will honour me, because I have borne him six sons"; so she called his name Zebulun. | | וַתֹּאמֶר לֵאָה זְבָדַנִי אֱלֹהִים אֹתִי זֵבֶד טֹוב הַפַּעַם יִזְבְּלֵנִי אִישִׁי כִּי־יָלַדְתִּי לֹו שִׁשָּׁה בָנִים וַתִּקְרָא אֶת־שְׁמֹו זְבֻלוּן׃ |

| 21 | Afterwards she bore a daughter, and called her name Dinah. | | וְאַחַר יָלְדָה בַּת וַתִּקְרָא אֶת־שְׁמָהּ דִּינָה׃ |
|
| 22 | Then God remembered Rachel, and God hearkened to her and opened her womb. | | וַיִּזְכֹּר אֱלֹהִים אֶת־רָחֵל וַיִּשְׁמַע אֵלֶיהָ אֱלֹהִים וַיִּפְתַּח אֶת־רַחְמָהּ׃ |
|
| 23 | She conceived and bore a son, and said, "God has taken away my reproach"; | | וַתַּהַר וַתֵּלֶד בֵּן וַתֹּאמֶר אָסַף אֱלֹהִים אֶת־חֶרְפָּתִי׃ |
|
| 24 | and she called his name Joseph, saying, "May Yahweh add to me another son!" | | וַתִּקְרָא אֶת־שְׁמֹו יֹוסֵף לֵאמֹר יֹסֵף יְהוָה לִי בֵּן אַחֵר׃ |
