1	Then Jonah prayed to Yahweh his God from the belly of the fish,	Jonah's prayer. Jon.2.1-10	וַיִּתְפַּלֵּל יֹונָה אֶל־יְהוָה אֱלֹהָיו מִמְּעֵי הַדָּגָה׃
2	saying, "I called to Yahweh, out of my distress, and he answered me; out of the belly of Sheol I cried, and you heard my voice.		וַיֹּאמֶר קָרָאתִי מִצָּרָה לִי אֶל־יְהוָה וַיַּעֲנֵנִי מִבֶּטֶן שְׁאֹול שִׁוַּעְתִּי שָׁמַעְתָּ קֹולִי׃
3	For you casted me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the flood was round about me; all your waves and your billows passed over me.		וַתַּשְׁלִיכֵנִי מְצוּלָה בִּלְבַב יַמִּים וְנָהָר יְסֹבְבֵנִי כָּל־מִשְׁבָּרֶיךָ וְגַלֶּיךָ עָלַי עָבָרוּ׃
4	Then I said, 'I am cast out from your presence; how shall I again look upon your holy temple?		וַאֲנִי אָמַרְתִּי נִגְרַשְׁתִּי מִנֶּגֶד עֵינֶיךָ אַךְ אֹוסִיף לְהַבִּיט אֶל־הֵיכַל קָדְשֶׁךָ׃
5	The waters closed over me, the deep was round me; weeds are wrapped about my head		אֲפָפוּנִי מַיִם עַד־נֶפֶשׁ תְּהֹום יְסֹבְבֵנִי סוּף חָבוּשׁ לְרֹאשִׁי׃
6	at the roots of the mountains. I went down to the land whose bars closed upon me for ever; yet you brought up my life from the Pit, O Yahweh my God.		לְקִצְבֵי הָרִים יָרַדְתִּי הָאָרֶץ בְּרִחֶיהָ בַעֲדִי לְעֹולָם וַתַּעַל מִשַּׁחַת חַיַּי יְהוָה אֱלֹהָי׃
7	When my soul fainted within me, I remembered Yahweh; and my prayer came to you, into your holy temple.		בְּהִתְעַטֵּף עָלַי נַפְשִׁי אֶת־יְהוָה זָכָרְתִּי וַתָּבֹוא אֵלֶיךָ תְּפִלָּתִי אֶל־הֵיכַל קָדְשֶׁךָ׃
8	Those who pay regard to vain idols forsake their true loyalty.		מְשַׁמְּרִים הַבְלֵי־שָׁוְא חַסְדָּם יַעֲזֹבוּ׃
9	But I with the voice of thanksgiving will sacrifice to you; what I have vowed I will pay. Deliverance belongs to Yahweh!"		וַאֲנִי בְּקֹול תֹּודָה אֶזְבְּחָה־לָּךְ אֲשֶׁר נָדַרְתִּי אֲשַׁלֵּמָה יְשׁוּעָתָה לַיהוָה׃ ס
10	And Yahweh spoke to the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.		וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה לַדָּג וַיָּקֵא אֶת־יֹונָה אֶל־הַיַּבָּשָׁה׃ ף

The katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE is a very light revision of the RSV. The changes are: (1) In places where 'the LORD', 'O LORD' occurs in the RSV, (it represents the tetragrammaton - YHWH - which is in the hebrew text), I have printed 'YHWH' in black. The later vowel sounds I have shown in the colour gray;
(2) I have removed the quotation marks and hyphens that were used in so many names in the RSV as an aid to correct pronunciation. This now brings it in line with all other English versions, and makes any word-search more accurate.
(3) I have changed all (I hope!) of the RSV archaic language sections to modern.

Quotations of OT passages by NT authors can in most cases be viewed within their context of the OT passage as a whole, with the quoted text displayed, against a subdued background.
