1	Thus Yahweh GOD showed me: behold, he was forming locusts in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and lo, it was the latter growth after the king's mowings.	A vision of locusts. Am.7.1-3	כֹּה הִרְאַנִי אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה וְהִנֵּה יֹוצֵר גֹּבַי בִּתְחִלַּת עֲלֹות הַלָּקֶשׁ וְהִנֵּה־לֶקֶשׁ אַחַר גִּזֵּי הַמֶּלֶךְ׃
2	When they had finished eating the grass of the land, I said, "O Yahweh GOD, forgive, I beseech you! How can Jacob stand? He is so small!"		וְהָיָה אִם־כִּלָּה לֶאֱכֹול אֶת־עֵשֶׂב הָאָרֶץ וָאֹמַר אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה סְלַח־נָא מִי יָקוּם יַעֲקֹב כִּי קָטֹן הוּא׃
3	Yahweh repented concerning this; "It shall not be," said Yahweh.		נִחַם יְהוָה עַל־זֹאת לֹא תִהְיֶה אָמַר יְהוָה׃
4	Thus Yahweh GOD showed me: behold, Yahweh GOD was calling for a judgment by fire, and it devoured the great deep and was eating up the land.	A vision of Fire. Am.7.4-6	כֹּה הִרְאַנִי אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה וְהִנֵּה קֹרֵא לָרִב בָּאֵשׁ אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה וַתֹּאכַל אֶת־תְּהֹום רַבָּה וְאָכְלָה אֶת־הַחֵלֶק׃
5	Then I said, "O Yahweh GOD, cease, I beseech you! How can Jacob stand? He is so small!"		וָאֹמַר אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה חֲדַל־נָא מִי יָקוּם יַעֲקֹב כִּי קָטֹן הוּא׃
6	Yahweh repented concerning this; "This also shall not be," said Yahweh GOD.		נִחַם יְהוָה עַל־זֹאת גַּם־הִיא לֹא תִהְיֶה אָמַר אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה׃ ס
7	He showed me: behold, Yahweh was standing beside a wall built with a plumb line, with a plumb line in his hand.	A vision of a plumb-line. Am.7.7-17	כֹּה הִרְאַנִי וְהִנֵּה אֲדֹנָי נִצָּב עַל־חֹומַת אֲנָךְ וּבְיָדֹו אֲנָךְ׃
8	And Yahweh said to me, "Amos, what do you see?" And I said, "A plumb line." Then Yahweh said, "Behold, I am setting a plumb line in the midst of my people Israel; I will never again pass by them;		וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֵלַי מָה־אַתָּה רֹאֶה עָמֹוס וָאֹמַר אֲנָךְ וַיֹּאמֶר אֲדֹנָי הִנְנִי שָׂם אֲנָךְ בְּקֶרֶב עַמִּי יִשְׂרָאֵל לֹא־אֹוסִיף עֹוד עֲבֹור לֹו׃
9	the high places of Isaac shall be made desolate, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste, and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword."		וְנָשַׁמּוּ בָּמֹות יִשְׂחָק וּמִקְדְּשֵׁי יִשְׂרָאֵל יֶחֱרָבוּ וְקַמְתִּי עַל־בֵּית יָרָבְעָם בֶּחָרֶב׃ ף
10	Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, "Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel; the land is not able to bear all his words.		וַיִּשְׁלַח אֲמַצְיָה כֹּהֵן בֵּית־אֵל אֶל־יָרָבְעָם מֶלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵל לֵאמֹר קָשַׁר עָלֶיךָ עָמֹוס בְּקֶרֶב בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל לֹא־תוּכַל הָאָרֶץ לְהָכִיל אֶת־כָּל־דְּבָרָיו׃
11	For thus Amos has said, 'Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and Israel must go into exile away from his land.' "		כִּי־כֹה אָמַר עָמֹוס בַּחֶרֶב יָמוּת יָרָבְעָם וְיִשְׂרָאֵל גָּלֹה יִגְלֶה מֵעַל אַדְמָתֹו׃ ס
12	And Amaziah said to Amos, "O seer, go, flee away to the land of Judah, and eat bread there, and prophesy there;		וַיֹּאמֶר אֲמַצְיָה אֶל־עָמֹוס חֹזֶה לֵךְ בְּרַח־לְךָ אֶל־אֶרֶץ יְהוּדָה וֶאֱכָל־שָׁם לֶחֶם וְשָׁם תִּנָּבֵא׃
13	but never again prophesy at Bethel, for it is the king's sanctuary, and it is a temple of the kingdom."		וּבֵית־אֵל לֹא־תֹוסִיף עֹוד לְהִנָּבֵא כִּי מִקְדַּשׁ־מֶלֶךְ הוּא וּבֵית מַמְלָכָה הוּא׃ ס
14	Then Amos answered Amaziah, "I am no prophet, nor a prophet's son; but I am a herdsman, and a dresser of sycamore trees,		וַיַּעַן עָמֹוס וַיֹּאמֶר אֶל־אֲמַצְיָה לֹא־נָבִיא אָנֹכִי וְלֹא בֶן־נָבִיא אָנֹכִי כִּי־בֹוקֵר אָנֹכִי וּבֹולֵס שִׁקְמִים׃
15	and Yahweh took me from following the flock, and Yahweh said to me, 'Go, prophesy to my people Israel.'		וַיִּקָּחֵנִי יְהוָה מֵאַחֲרֵי הַצֹּאן וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלַי יְהוָה לֵךְ הִנָּבֵא אֶל־עַמִּי יִשְׂרָאֵל׃
16	"Now therefore hear the word of Yahweh. You say, 'Do not prophesy against Israel, and do not preach against the house of Isaac.'		וְעַתָּה שְׁמַע דְּבַר־יְהוָה אַתָּה אֹמֵר לֹא תִנָּבֵא עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵל וְלֹא תַטִּיף עַל־בֵּית יִשְׂחָק׃
17	Therefore thus says Yahweh: 'Your wife shall be a harlot in the city, and your sons and your daughters shall fall by the sword, and your land shall be parceled out by line; you yourself shall die in an unclean land, and Israel shall surely go into exile away from its land.' "		לָכֵן כֹּה־אָמַר יְהוָה אִשְׁתְּךָ בָּעִיר תִּזְנֶה וּבָנֶיךָ וּבְנֹתֶיךָ בַּחֶרֶב יִפֹּלוּ וְאַדְמָתְךָ בַּחֶבֶל תְּחֻלָּק וְאַתָּה עַל־אֲדָמָה טְמֵאָה תָּמוּת וְיִשְׂרָאֵל גָּלֹה יִגְלֶה מֵעַל אַדְמָתֹו׃ ס

The katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE is a very light revision of the RSV. The changes are: (1) In places where 'the LORD', 'O LORD' occurs in the RSV, (it represents the tetragrammaton - YHWH - which is in the hebrew text), I have printed 'YHWH' in black. The later vowel sounds I have shown in the colour gray;
(2) I have removed the quotation marks and hyphens that were used in so many names in the RSV as an aid to correct pronunciation. This now brings it in line with all other English versions, and makes any word-search more accurate.
(3) I have changed all (I hope!) of the RSV archaic language sections to modern.
