	[To the choirmaster: according to The Dove on Far-off Terebinths. A Miktam of David, when the Philistines seized him in Gath.]	Prayer for Deliverance. Psalm 56(v55)	לַמְנַצֵּחַ עַל־יֹונַת אֵלֶם רְחֹקִים לְדָוִד מִכְתָּם בֶּאֱחֹז אֹתֹו פְלִשְׁתִּים בְּגַת׃
1	Be gracious to me, O God, for men trample upon me; all day long foemen oppress me;		חָנֵּנִי אֱלֹהִים כִּי־שְׁאָפַנִי אֱנֹושׁ כָּל־הַיֹּום לֹחֵם יִלְחָצֵנִי׃
2	my enemies trample upon me all day long, for many fight against me proudly.		שָׁאֲפוּ שֹׁורְרַי כָּל־הַיֹּום כִּי־רַבִּים לֹחֲמִים לִי מָרֹום׃
3	When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.		יֹום אִירָא אֲנִי אֵלֶיךָ אֶבְטָח׃
4	In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust without a fear. What can flesh do to me?		בֵּאלֹהִים אֲהַלֵּל דְּבָרֹו בֵּאלֹהִים בָּטַחְתִּי לֹא אִירָא מַה־יַּעֲשֶׂה בָשָׂר לִי׃
5	All day long they seek to injure my cause; all their thoughts are against me for evil.		כָּל־הַיֹּום דְּבָרַי יְעַצֵּבוּ עָלַי כָּל־מַחְשְׁבֹתָם לָרָע׃
6	They band themselves together, they lurk, they watch my steps. As they have waited for my life,		יָגוּרוּ [כ= יַצְפִּינוּ] [ק= יִצְפֹּונוּ] הֵמָּה עֲקֵבַי יִשְׁמֹרוּ כַּאֲשֶׁר קִוּוּ נַפְשִׁי׃
7	so recompense them for their crime; in wrath cast down the peoples, O God!		עַל־אָוֶן פַּלֶּט־לָמֹו בְּאַף עַמִּים הֹורֵד אֱלֹהִים׃
8	You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in your bottle! Are they not in your book?		נֹדִי סָפַרְתָּה אָתָּה שִׂימָה דִמְעָתִי בְנֹאדֶךָ הֲלֹא בְּסִפְרָתֶךָ׃
9	Then my enemies will be turned back in the day when I call. This I know, that God is for me.		אָז יָשׁוּבוּ אֹויְבַי אָחֹור בְּיֹום אֶקְרָא זֶה־יָדַעְתִּי כִּי־אֱלֹהִים לִי׃
10	In God, whose word I praise, in Yahweh, whose word I praise,		בֵּאלֹהִים אֲהַלֵּל דָּבָר בַּיהוָה אֲהַלֵּל דָּבָר׃
11	in God I trust without a fear. What can man do to me?		בֵּאלֹהִים בָּטַחְתִּי לֹא אִירָא מַה־יַּעֲשֶׂה אָדָם לִי׃
12	My vows to you I must perform, O God; I will render thank offerings to you.		עָלַי אֱלֹהִים נְדָרֶיךָ אֲשַׁלֵּם תֹּודֹת לָךְ׃
13	For you have delivered my soul from death, yea, my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of life.		כִּי הִצַּלְתָּ נַפְשִׁי מִמָּוֶת הֲלֹא רַגְלַי מִדֶּחִי לְהִתְהַלֵּךְ לִפְנֵי אֱלֹהִים בְּאֹור הַחַיִּים׃

The katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE is a very light revision of the RSV. The changes are: (1) In places where 'the LORD', 'O LORD' occurs in the RSV, (it represents the tetragrammaton - YHWH - which is in the hebrew text), I have printed 'YHWH' in black. The later vowel sounds I have shown in the colour gray;
(2) I have removed the quotation marks and hyphens that were used in so many names in the RSV as an aid to correct pronunciation. This now brings it in line with all other English versions, and makes any word-search more accurate.
(3) I have changed all (I hope!) of the RSV archaic language sections to modern.
The katapi New Study Bible reference section displays links to parallel passages, and to direct quotations by New Testament authors to Old Testament passages. Quotations of OT passages by NT authors can in most cases be viewed within their context of the OT passage as a whole, with the quoted text displayed, against a subdued background.
