katapi HOME The Commissioning of the Disciples: Mk.16.14-18  (Mt.28.16-20  Lk.24.36-49  Jn.20.19-23  Ac.1.6-8) | NEB Index | notes
Mark: 16
14 Afterwards while the Eleven were at table he appeared to them and reproached them for their incredulity and dullness, because they had not believed those who had seen him risen from the dead. 15 Then he said to them: 'Go forth to every part of the world, and proclaim the Good News to the whole creation. 16 Those who believe it and receive baptism will find salvation; those who do not believe will be condemned. 17 Faith will bring with it these miracles: believers will cast out devils in my name and speak in strange tongues; 18 if they handle snakes or drink any deadly poison, they will come to no harm; and the sick on whom they lay their hands will recover.'
Matthew: 28
16 The eleven disciples made their way to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to meet him. 17 When they saw him, they fell prostrate before him, though some were doubtful. 18 Jesus then came up and is spoke to them. He said: 'Full authority in heaven and on earth has been committed to me. 19 Go forth therefore and make all nations my disciples; baptize men everywhere in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 and teach them to observe all that I have commanded you. And be assured, I am with you always, to the end of time.'
Luke: 24
36 As they were talking about all this, there he was, standing among them. 37 Startled and terrified, they thought they were seeing a ghost. 38 But he said, 'Why are you so perturbed? Why do questionings arise in your minds? 39 Look at my hands and feet. It is I myself. Touch me and see; no ghost has flesh and bones as you can see that I have.'" 40 Some manuscripts insert: After saying this he showed them his hands and feet. - Some manuscripts add: and was carried up into heaven. 41 They were still unconvinced, still wondering, for it seemed too good to be true. So he asked them, 'Have you anything here to eat?' 42 They offered him a piece of fish they had cooked, 43 which he took and ate before their eyes.
44 And he said to them, 'This is what I meant by saying, while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and in the prophets and psalms was bound to be fulfilled.' 45 Then he opened their minds to understand the scriptures. 46 'This', he said, 'is what is written: that the Messiah is to suffer death and to rise from the dead on the third day, 47 and that in his name repentance bringing the forgiveness of sins is to be proclaimed to all nations. Begin from Jerusalem: 48 it is you who are the witnesses to all this. 49 And mark this: I am sending upon you my Father's promised gift; so stay here in this city until you are armed with the power from above.'
John: 20
19 Late that Sunday evening, when the disciples were together behind locked doors, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them. 'Peace be with you!' he said, 20 and then showed them his hands and his side. So when the disciples saw the Lord, they were filled with joy. 21 Jesus repeated, 'Peace be with you!', and then said, 'As the Father sent me, so I send you.' 22 He then breathed on them, saying, 'Receive the Holy Spirit! 23 If you forgive any man's sins, they stand forgiven; if you pronounce them unforgiven, unforgiven they remain.'

The most generally known harmonies of the Gospels are based upon the Huck-Lietzmann Synopsis (1936) of the three gospels and Sparks' Synopsis (1964) of four gospels.
Many of the passages in these harmonies are too short to display in a useful manner on a web-page.
The katapi New Study Bible Synopsis of the Gospels is based upon the headings displayed in the New Study Bible reference table which in turn follows the headings printed in the United Bible Societies' New Testament in Greek.
These sections are more useful for bible study.
Columns are arranged so that first column is your chosen heading from the bible passage list.
This column is highlighted in light grey.
The harmonies that follow across the web-page are then in the normally accepted order.
For Old Testament references quoted by New Testament authors,
you should either go back to the passage listing web-page and select the link on the 'version' column;
or click on the column heading and search through the chapter for the relevant passage;
than select the OT passage from the reference column.
