20 ΚΑΤΑ ΛΟΥΚΑΝ Luke Reference

1Καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν μιᾷ τῶν ἡμερῶν διδάσκοντος αὐτοῦ τὸν λαὸν ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ καὶ εὐαγγελιζομένου ἐπέστησαν οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ γραμματεῖς σὺν τοῖς πρεσβυτέροις, One day, as he was teaching the people in the temple and preaching the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes with the elders came upThe Authority of Jesus Questioned Lk.20.1-8 | Mt.21.23-27 | Mk.11.27-33 | [ Lk.20.1-8 → ]
2καὶ εἶπαν λέγοντες πρὸς αὐτόν, Εἰπὸν ἡμῖν ἐν ποίᾳ ἐξουσίᾳ ταῦτα ποιεῖς, ἢ τίς ἐστιν ὁ δούς σοι τὴν ἐξουσίαν ταύτην. and said to him, "Tell us by what authority you do these things, or who it is that gave you this authority."
3ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς, Ἐρωτήσω ὑμᾶς κἀγὼ λόγον, καὶ εἰπατέ μοι· He answered them, "I also will ask you a question; now tell me,
4Τὸ βάπτισμα Ἰωάννου ἐξ οὐρανοῦ ἦν ἢ ἐξ ἀνθρώπων; Was the baptism of John from heaven or from men?"
5οἱ δὲ συνελογίσαντο πρὸς ἑαυτοὺς λέγοντες ὅτι Ἐὰν εἰπωμεν, Ἐξ οὐρανοῦ, ἐρεῖ, Διὰ τί οὐκ ἐπιστεύσατε αὐτῷ; And they discussed it with one another, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven,' he will say, 'Why did you not believe him?'
But if we say, 'From men,' all the people will stone us; for they are convinced that John was a prophet."
So they answered that they did not know whence it was.
And Jesus said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things."
And he began to tell the people this parable: "A man planted a vineyard, and let it out to tenants, and went into another country for a long while.The Parable of the Vineyard and the Tenants Lk.20.9-19 | Mt.21.33-46 | Mk.12.1-12 | Is.5.1 | [ Lk.20.9-19 → ]

When the time came, he sent a servant to the tenants, that they should give him some of the fruit of the vineyard; but the tenants beat him, and sent him away empty-handed.
And he sent another servant; him also they beat and treated shamefully, and sent him away empty-handed.
And he sent yet a third; this one they wounded and cast out.
Then the owner of the vineyard said, 'What shall I do? I will send my beloved son; it may be they will respect him.'
But when the tenants saw him, they said to themselves, 'This is the heir; let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.'
τί οὖν ποιήσει αὐτοῖς ὁ κύριος τοῦ ἀμπελῶνος; And they cast him out of the vineyard and killed him. What then will the owner of the vineyard do to them?
He will come and destroy those tenants, and give the vineyard to others." When they heard this, they said, "God forbid!"
    Λίθον ὃν ἀπεδοκίμασαν οἱ οἰκοδομοῦντες,
    οὗτος ἐγενήθη εἰς κεφαλὴν γωνίασ;
But he looked at them and said, "What then is this that is written:

The scribes and the chief priests tried to lay hands on him at that very hour, but they feared the people; for they perceived that he had told this parable against them.
20Καὶ παρατηρήσαντες ἀπέστειλαν ἐγκαθέτους ὑποκρινομένους ἑαυτοὺς δικαίους εἶναι, ἵνα ἐπιλάβωνται αὐτοῦ λόγου, ὡστε παραδοῦναι αὐτὸν τῇ ἀρχῇ καὶ τῇ ἐξουσίᾳ τοῦ ἡγεμόν ος.So they watched him, and sent spies, who pretended to be sincere, that they might take hold of what he said, so as to deliver him up to the authority and jurisdiction of the governor.Paying Taxes to Caesar Lk.20.20-26 | Mt.22.15-22 | Mk.12.13-17 | [ Lk.20.20-26 → ]

22ἐξεστιν ἡμᾶς Καίσαρι φόρον δοῦναι ἢ οὒ; Is it lawful for us to give tribute to Caesar, or not?"

And they were not able in the presence of the people to catch him by what he said; but marveling at his answer they were silent.

28λέγοντες, Διδάσκαλε, Μωϋσῆς ἐγραψεν ἡμῖν, ἐάν τινος ἀδελφὸς ἀποθάνῃ ἐχων γυναῖκα, καὶ οὗτος ἀτεκνος ᾖ, ἵνα λάβῃ ὁ ἀδελφὸς αὐτοῦ τὴν γυναῖκα καὶ ἐξαναστήσῃ σπέρμα τῷ ἀδελφῷ αὐτοῦ. and they asked him a question, saying, "Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man's brother dies, having a wife but no children, the man must take the wife and raise up children for his brother.

34καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς ὁ Ἰησοῦς, Οἱ υἱοὶ τοῦ αἰῶνος τούτου γαμοῦσιν καὶ γαμίσκονται, And Jesus said to them, "The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage;
35οἱ δὲ καταξιωθέντες τοῦ αἰῶνος ἐκείνου τυχεῖν καὶ τῆς ἀναστάσεως τῆς ἐκ νεκρῶν οὐτε γαμοῦσιν οὐτε γαμίζονται· but those who are accounted worthy to attain to that age and to the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage,
