24 ΚΑΤΑ ΜΑΘΘΑΙΟΝ Matthew Reference

1Καὶ ἐξελθὼν ὁ Ἰησοῦς ἀπὸ τοῦ ἱεροῦ ἐπορεύετο, καὶ προσῆλθον οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ ἐπιδεῖξαι αὐτῷ τὰς οἰκοδομὰς τοῦ ἱεροῦ· Jesus left the temple and was going away, when his disciples came to point out to him the buildings of the temple. The Destruction of the Temple Foretold Mt.24.1-2 | Mk.13.1-2 | Lk.21.5-6 | [ Mt.24.1-2 → ]
But he answered them, "You see all these, do you not? Truly, I say to you, there will not be left here one stone upon another, that will not be thrown down."
As he sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, saying, "Tell us, when will this be, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the close of the age?"The Beginning of the Woes Mt.24.3-14 | Mk.13.3-13 | Lk.21.7-19 | [ Mt.24.3-14 → ]
4καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, Βλέπετε μή τις ὑμᾶς πλανήσῃ· And Jesus answered them, "Take heed that no one leads you astray.
For many will come in my name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and they will lead many astray.
And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars; see that you are not alarmed; for this must take place, but the end is not yet.
7ἐγερθήσεται γὰρ ἐθνος ἐπὶ ἐθνος καὶ βασιλεία ἐπὶ βασιλείαν, καὶ ἐσονται λιμοὶ καὶ σεισμοὶ κατὰ τόπους· For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places:
8πάντα δὲ ταῦτα ἀρχὴ ὠδίνων. all this is but the beginning of the birth-pangs.
"Then they will deliver you up to tribulation, and put you to death; and you will be hated by all nations for my name's sake.
10καὶ τότε σκανδαλισθήσονται πολλοὶ καὶ ἀλλήλους παραδώσουσιν καὶ μισήσουσιν ἀλλήλους· And then many will fall away, and betray one another, and hate one another.
11καὶ πολλοὶ ψευδοπροφῆται ἐγερθήσονται καὶ πλανήσουσιν πολλούς· And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray.
And because wickedness is multiplied, most men's love will grow cold.
But he who endures to the end will be saved.
And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, as a testimony to all nations; and then the end will come.
15Ὅταν οὖν ἰδητε τὸ βδέλυγμα τῆς ἐρημώσεως τὸ ῥηθὲν διὰ Δανιὴλ τοῦ προφήτου ἑστὸς ἐν τόπῳ ἁγίῳ, ὁ ἀναγινώσκων νοείτω, "So when you see the desolating sacrilege spoken of by the prophet Daniel, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand),The Great Tribulation Mt.24.15-28 | Mk.13.14-23 | Lk.21.20-24 | [ Mt.24.15-28 → ]

16τότε οἱ ἐν τῇ Ἰουδαίᾳ φευγέτωσαν εἰς τὰ ὀρη, then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains;
17ὁ ἐπὶ τοῦ δώματος μὴ καταβάτω ἆραι τὰ ἐκ τῆς οἰκίας αὐτοῦ, let him who is on the housetop not go down to take what is in his house;
18καὶ ὁ ἐν τῷ ἀγρῷ μὴ ἐπιστρεψάτω ὀπίσω ἆραι τὸ ἱμάτιον αὐτοῦ. and let him who is in the field not turn back to take his mantle.
And alas for those who are with child and for those who give suck in those days!
20προσεύχεσθε δὲ ἵνα μὴ γένηται ἡ φυγὴ ὑμῶν χειμῶνος μηδὲ σαββάτῳ· Pray that your flight may not be in winter or on a sabbath.
For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be.- For then there will be great tribulation Mt.24.21 | Dn.12.1 | Jl.2.2

And if those days had not been shortened, no human being would be saved; but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened.
23τότε ἐάν τις ὑμῖν εἰπῃ, Ἰδοὺ ὧδε ὁ Χριστός, ἠ, Ὧδε, μὴ πιστεύσητε· Then if any one says to you, 'Lo, here is the Christ!' or 'There he is!' do not believe it.
24ἐγερθήσονται γὰρ ψευδόΧριστοι καὶ ψευδοπροφῆται, καὶ δώσουσιν σημεῖα μεγάλα καὶ τέρατα ὡστε πλανῆσαι, εἰ δυνατόν, καὶ τοὺς ἐκλεκτούς· For false Christs and false prophets will arise and show great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.
Lo, I have told you beforehand.
26ἐὰν οὖν εἰπωσιν ὑμῖν, Ἰδοὺ ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ ἐστίν, μὴ ἐξέλθητε· Ἰδοὺ ἐν τοῖς ταμείοις, μὴ πιστεύσητε· So, if they say to you, 'Lo, he is in the wilderness,' do not go out; if they say, 'Lo, he is in the inner rooms,' do not believe it.
For as the lightning comes from the east and shines as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of man.
Wherever the body is, there the eagles will be gathered together.

30καὶ τότε φανήσεται τὸ σημεῖον τοῦ υἱοῦ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐν οὐρανῷ, καὶ τότε κόψονται πᾶσαι αἱ φυλαὶ τῆς γῆς καὶ ὄψονται τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐρχόμενον ἐπὶ τῶν νεφελῶν τοῦ οὐρανοῦ μετὰ δυνάμεως καὶ δόξης πολλῆς· then will appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory;- then will appear the sign of the Son of man Mt.24.30 | Zch.12.10-14

31καὶ ἀποστελεῖ τοὺς ἀγγέλους αὐτοῦ μετὰ σάλπιγγος μεγάλης, καὶ ἐπισυνάξουσιν τοὺς ἐκλεκτοὺς αὐτοῦ ἐκ τῶν τεσσάρων ἀνέμων ἀπ' ἀκρων οὐρανῶν ἑως ἀκρων αὐτῶν. and he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
32Ἀπὸ δὲ τῆς συκῆς μάθετε τὴν παραβολήν· ὁταν ἠδη ὁ κλάδος αὐτῆς γένηται ἀπαλὸς καὶ τὰ φύλλα ἐκφύῃ, γινώσκετε ὅτι ἐγγὺς τὸ θέρος· "From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near. The Lesson of the Fig Tree Mt.24.32-35 | Mk.13.28-31 | Lk.21.29-33 | [ Mt.24.32-35 → ]

So also, when you see all these things, you know that he is near, at the very gates.
Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away till all these things take place.
Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.
"But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only. The Unknown Day and Hour Mt.24.36-44 | Mk.13.32-37 | Lk.17.26-30 | Lk.17.34-36 | [ Mt.24.36-44 → ]

As were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of man.
38ὡς γὰρ ἦσαν ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις ταῖς πρὸ τοῦ κατακλυσμοῦ τρώγοντες καὶ πίνοντες, γαμοῦντες καὶ γαμίζοντες, ἀχρι ἧς ἡμέρας εἰσῆλθεν Νῶε εἰς τὴν κιβωτόν, For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark,
39καὶ οὐκ ἐγνωσαν ἑως ἦλθεν ὁ κατακλυσμὸς καὶ ἦρεν ἀπαντας, ὑτως ἐσται [καὶ] ἡ παρουσία τοῦ υἱοῦ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου. and they did not know until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of man.
40τότε δύο ἐσονται ἐν τῷ ἀγρῷ, εἷς παραλαμβάνεται καὶ εἷς ἀφίεται· Then two men will be in the field; one is taken and one is left.
Two women will be grinding at the mill; one is taken and one is left.
Watch therefore, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.
But know this, that if the householder had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have watched and would not have let his house be broken into.
Therefore you also must be ready; for the Son of man is coming at an hour you do not expect.
45Τίς ἀρα ἐστὶν ὁ πιστὸς δοῦλος καὶ φρόνιμος ὃν κατέστησεν ὁ κύριος ἐπὶ τῆς οἰκετείας αὐτοῦ τοῦ δοῦναι αὐτοῖς τὴν τροφὴν ἐν καιρῷ; "Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his master has set over his household, to give them their food at the proper time? The Faithful or the Unfaithful Servant Mt.24.45-51 | Lk.12.41-48 | [ Mt.24.45-51 → ]

46μακάριος ὁ δοῦλος ἐκεῖνος ὃν ἐλθὼν ὁ κύριος αὐτοῦ εὑρήσει οὑτως ποιοῦντα· Blessed is that servant whom his master when he comes will find so doing.
Truly, I say to you, he will set him over all his possessions.
48ἐὰν δὲ εἰπῃ ὁ κακὸς δοῦλος ἐκεῖνος ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ αὐτοῦ, Χρονίζει μου ὁ κύριος, But if that wicked servant says to himself, 'My master is delayed,'
49καὶ ἀρξηται τύπτειν τοὺς συνδούλους αὐτοῦ, ἐσθίῃ δὲ καὶ πίνῃ μετὰ τῶν μεθυόντων, and begins to beat his fellow servants, and eats and drinks with the drunken,
50ἡξει ὁ κύριος τοῦ δούλου ἐκείνου ἐν ἡμέρᾳ ᾗ οὐ προσδοκᾷ καὶ ἐν ὡρᾳ ᾗ οὐ γινώσκει, the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know,
51καὶ διχοτομήσει αὐτὸν καὶ τὸ μέρος αὐτοῦ μετὰ τῶν ὑποκριτῶν θήσει· ἐκεῖ ἐσται ὁ κλαυθμὸς καὶ ὁ βρυγμὸς τῶν ὀδόντων. and will punish him, and will put him with the hypocrites; there men will weep and gnash their teeth.
