| ὁ δὲ Πέτρος ἠκολούθει αὐτῷ ἀπὸ μακρόθεν ἑως τῆς αὐλῆς τοῦ ἀρχιερέως, καὶ εἰσελθὼν ἐσω ἐκάθητο μετὰ τῶν ὑπηρετῶν ἰδεῖν τὸ τέλος. | But Peter followed him at a distance, as far as the courtyard of the high priest, and going inside he sat with the guards to see the end. | ||
| οἱ δὲ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ τὸ συνέδριον ὁλον ἐζήτουν ψευδομαρτυρίαν κατὰ τοῦ Ἰησοῦ ὁπως αὐτὸν θανατώσωσιν, | Now the chief priests and the whole council sought false testimony against Jesus that they might put him to death, | ||
| καὶ οὐχ εὗρον πολλῶν προσελθόντων ψευδομαρτύρων. ὑστερον δὲ προσελθόντες δύο | but they found none, though many false witnesses came forward. At last two came forward | ||
| εἶπαν, Οὗτος ἐφη, Δύναμαι καταλῦσαι τὸν ναὸν τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ διὰ τριῶν ἡμερῶν οἰκοδομῆσαι. | and said, "This fellow said, 'I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.'" | ||
| καὶ ἀναστὰς ὁ ἀρχιερεὺς εἶπεν αὐτῷ, Οὐδὲν ἀποκρίνῃ; τί οὗτοί σου καταμαρτυροῦσιν; | And the high priest stood up and said, "Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against you?" | ||
| ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς ἐσιώπα. καὶ ὁ ἀρχιερεὺς εἶπεν αὐτῷ, Ἐξορκίζω σε κατὰ τοῦ θεοῦ τοῦ ζῶντος ἵνα ἡμῖν εἰπῃς εἰ σὺ εἶ ὁ Χριστὸς ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ θεοῦ. | But Jesus was silent. And the high priest said to him, "I adjure you by the living God, tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God." | ||
λέγει αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς, Σὺ εἶπας· πλὴν λέγω ὑμῖν,
καθήμενον ἐκ δεξιῶν τῆς δυνάμεως καὶ ἐρχόμενον ἐπὶ τῶν νεφελῶν τοῦ οὐρανοῦ. |

| τότε ὁ ἀρχιερεὺς διέρρηξεν τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ λέγων, Ἐβλασφήμησεν· τί ἐτι χρείαν ἐχομεν μαρΤύρων; ἰδε νῦν ἠκούσατε τὴν βλασφημίαν· | Then the high priest tore his robes, and said, "He has uttered blasphemy. Why do we still need witnesses? You have now heard his blasphemy. | ||
| τί ὑμῖν δοκεῖ; οἱ δὲ ἀποκριθέντες εἶπαν, Ἔνοχος θανάτου ἐστίν. | What is your judgment?" They answered, "He deserves death." | ||
| Τότε ἐνέπτυσαν εἰς τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐκολάφισαν αὐτόν, οἱ δὲ ἐράπισαν | Then they spat in his face, and struck him; and some slapped him, | ||
| λέγοντες, Προφήτευσον ἡμῖν, Χριστέ, τίς ἐστιν ὁ παίσας σὲ; | saying, "Prophesy to us, you Christ! Who is it that struck you?" |
