| 1 | Ἀγρίππας δὲ πρὸς τὸν Παῦλον ἐφη, Ἐπιτρέπεταί σοι περὶ σεαυτοῦ λέγειν. τότε ὁ Παῦλος ἐκτείνας τὴν χεῖρα ἀπελογεῖτο, |
Agrippa said to Paul, "You have permission to speak for yourself." Then Paul stretched out his hand and made his defence: | Paul Defends Himself before Agrippa Ac.26.1-11

| 2 | Περὶ πάντων ὧν ἐγκαλοῦμαι ὑπὸ Ἰουδαίων, βασιλεῦ Ἀγρίππα, ἡγημαι ἐμαυτὸν μακάριον ἐπὶ σοῦ μέλλων σήμερον ἀπολογεῖσθαι, |
"I think myself fortunate that it is before you, King Agrippa, I am to make my defence today against all the accusations of the Jews, |

| 3 | μάλιστα γνώστην ὀντα σε πάντων τῶν κατὰ Ἰουδαίους ἐθῶν τε καὶ ζητημάτων· διὸ δέομαι μακροθύμως ἀκοῦσαί μου. |
because you are especially familiar with all customs and controversies of the Jews; therefore I beg you to listen to me patiently. |

| 4 | Τὴν μὲν οὖν βίωσίν μου [τὴν] ἐκ νεότητος τὴν ἀπ' ἀρχῆς γενομένην ἐν τῷ ἐθνει μου ἐν τε Ἱεροσολύμοις ἰσασι πάντες Ἰουδαῖοι, |
"My manner of life from my youth, spent from the beginning among my own nation and at Jerusalem, is known by all the Jews. |

| 5 | προγινώσκοντές με ἀνωθεν, ἐὰν θέλωσι μαρτυρεῖν, ὅτι κατὰ τὴν ἀκριβεστάτην αἱρεσιν τῆς ἡμετέρας θρησκείας ἐζησα Φαρισαῖος. |
They have known for a long time, if they are willing to testify, that according to the strictest party of our religion I have lived as a Pharisee. |

| 6 | καὶ νῦν ἐπ' ἐλπίδι τῆς εἰς τοὺς πατέρας ἡμῶν ἐπαγγελίας γενομένης ὑπὸ τοῦ θεοῦ ἑστηκα κρινόμενος, |
And now I stand here on trial for hope in the promise made by God to our fathers, |

| 7 | εἰς ἣν τὸ δωδεκάφυλον ἡμῶν ἐν ἐκτενείᾳ νύκτα καὶ ἡμέραν λατρεῦον ἐλπίζει καταντῆσαι· περὶ ἧς ἐλπίδος ἐγκαλοῦμαι ὑπὸ Ἰουδαίων, βασιλεῦ. |
to which our twelve tribes hope to attain, as they earnestly worship night and day. And for this hope I am accused by Jews, O king! |

| 8 | τί ἀπιστον κρίνεται παρ' ὑμῖν εἰ ὁ θεὸς νεκροὺς ἐγείρεὶ; |
Why is it thought incredible by any of you that God raises the dead? |
|
| 9 | ἐγὼ μὲν οὖν ἐδοξα ἐμαυτῷ πρὸς τὸ ὀνομα Ἰησοῦ τοῦ Ναζωραίου δεῖν πολλὰ ἐναντία πρᾶξαι· |
"I myself was convinced that I ought to do many things in opposing the name of Jesus of Nazareth. |

| 10 | ὃ καὶ ἐποίησα ἐν Ἱεροσολύμοις, καὶ πολλούς τε τῶν ἀγίων ἐγὼ ἐν φυλακαῖς κατέκλεισα τὴν παρὰ τῶν ἀρχιερέων ἐξουσίαν λαβών, ἀναιρουμένων τε αὐτῶν κατήνεγκα ψῆφον, |
And I did so in Jerusalem; I not only shut up many of the saints in prison, by authority from the chief priests, but when they were put to death I cast my vote against them. |

| 11 | καὶ κατὰ πάσας τὰς συναγωγὰς πολλάκις τιμωρῶν αὐτοὺς ἠνάγκαζον βλασφημεῖν, περισσῶς τε ἐμμαινόμενος αὐτοῖς ἐδίωκον ἑως καὶ εἰς τὰς ἐξω πόλεις. |
And I punished them often in all the synagogues and tried to make them blaspheme; and in raging fury against them, I persecuted them even to foreign cities. |

| 12 | Ἐν οἷς πορευόμενος εἰς τὴν Δαμασκὸν μετ' ἐξουσίας καὶ ἐπιτροπῆς τῆς τῶν ἀρχιερέων |

| 13 | ἡμέρας μέσης κατὰ τὴν ὁδὸν εἶδον, βασιλεῦ, οὐρανόθεν ὑπὲρ τὴν λαμπρότητα τοῦ ἡλίου περιλάμψαν με φῶς καὶ τοὺς σὺν ἐμοὶ πορευομένους· |
At midday, O king, I saw on the way a light from heaven, brighter than the sun, shining round me and those who journeyed with me. |

| 14 | πάντων τε καταπεσόντων ἡμῶν εἰς τὴν γῆν ἠκουσα φωνὴν λέγουσαν πρός με τῇ Ἑβραΐδι διαλέκτῳ, Σαοὺλ Σαούλ, τί με διώκεις; σκληρόν σοι πρὸς κέντρα λακτίζειν. |
And when we had all fallen to the ground, I heard a voice saying to me in the Hebrew language, 'Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? It hurts you to kick against the goads.' |

| 15 | ἐγὼ δὲ εἶπα, Τίς εἶ, κύριὲ ὁ δὲ κύριος εἶπεν, Ἐγώ εἰμι Ἰησοῦς ὃν σὺ διώκεις. |
And I said, 'Who are you, Lord?' And the Lord said, 'I am Jesus whom you are persecuting. |

| 16 | ἀλλὰ ἀνάστηθι καὶ στῆθι ἐπὶ τοὺς πόδας σου· εἰς τοῦτο γὰρ ὠφθην σοι, προχειρίσασθαί σε ὑπηρέτην καὶ μάρτυρα ὧν τε εἶδές [με] ὧν τε ὀφθήσομαί σοι, |
But rise and stand upon your feet; for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to appoint you to serve and bear witness to the things in which you have seen me and to those in which I will appear to you, |

| 17 | ἐξαιρούμενός σε ἐκ τοῦ λαοῦ καὶ ἐκ τῶν ἐθνῶν, εἰς οὓς ἐγὼ ἀποστέλλω σε |
delivering you from the people and from the Gentiles - to whom I send you |

| 18 | ἀνοῖξαι ὀφθαλμοὺς αὐτῶν, τοῦ ἐπιστρέψαι ἀπὸ σκότους εἰς φῶς καὶ τῆς ἐξουσίας τοῦ Σατανᾶ ἐπὶ τὸν θεόν, τοῦ λαβεῖν αὐτοὺς ἀφεσιν ἀμαρτιῶν καὶ κλῆρον ἐν τοῖς ἡγιασμένοι ς πίστει τῇ εἰς ἐμέ. |
to open their eyes, that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.' |

| 19 | Ὅθεν, βασιλεῦ Ἀγρίππα, οὐκ ἐγενόμην ἀπειθὴς τῇ οὐρανίῳ ὀπτασίᾳ, |
"Wherefore, O King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision, | Paul's Testimony to Jews and Gentiles Ac.26.19-23

| 20 | ἀλλὰ τοῖς ἐν Δαμασκῷ πρῶτόν τε καὶ Ἱεροσολύμοις, πᾶσάν τε τὴν χώραν τῆς Ἰουδαίας καὶ τοῖς ἐθνεσιν ἀπήγγελλον μετανοεῖν καὶ ἐπιστρέφειν ἐπὶ τὸν θεόν, ἀξια τῆς μετανοίας ἐργα πράσσοντας. |
but declared first to those at Damascus, then at Jerusalem and throughout all the country of Judea, and also to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God and perform deeds worthy of their repentance. |

| 21 | ἑνεκα τούτων με Ἰουδαῖοι συλλαβόμενοι [ὀντα] ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ ἐπειρῶντο διαχειρίσασθαι. |
For this reason the Jews seized me in the temple and tried to kill me. |
|
| 22 | ἐπικουρίας οὖν τυχὼν τῆς ἀπὸ τοῦ θεοῦ ἀχρι τῆς ἡμέρας ταύτης ἑστηκα μαρτυρόμενος μικρῷ τε καὶ μεγάλῳ, οὐδὲν ἐκτὸς λέγων ὧν τε οἱ προφῆται ἐλάλησαν μελλόντων γίνεσθαι καὶ Μωϋσῆς, |
To this day I have had the help that comes from God, and so I stand here testifying both to small and great, saying nothing but what the prophets and Moses said would come to pass: |

| 23 | εἰ παθητὸς ὁ Χριστός, εἰ πρῶτος ἐξ ἀναστάσεως νεκρῶν φῶς μέλλει καταγγέλλειν τῷ τε λαῷ καὶ τοῖς ἐθνεσιν. |
that the Christ must suffer, and that, by being the first to rise from the dead, he would proclaim light both to the people and to the Gentiles." |

| 24 | Ταῦτα δὲ αὐτοῦ ἀπολογουμένου ὁ Φῆστος μεγάλῃ τῇ φωνῇ φησιν, Μαίνῃ, Παῦλε· τὰ πολλά σε γράμματα εἰς μανίαν περιτρέπει. |
And as he thus made his defence, Festus said with a loud voice, "Paul, you are mad; your great learning is turning you mad." | Paul Appeals to Agrippa to Believe Ac.26.24-32

| 25 | ὁ δὲ Παῦλος, Οὐ μαίνομαι, φησίν, κράτιστε Φῆστε, ἀλλὰ ἀληθείας καὶ σωφροσύνης ῥήματα ἀποφθέγγομαι. |
But Paul said, "I am not mad, most excellent Festus, but I am speaking the sober truth. |

| 26 | ἐπίσταται γὰρ περὶ τούτων ὁ βασιλεύς, πρὸς ὃν καὶ παρρησιαζόμενος λαλῶ· λανθάνειν γὰρ αὐτὸν τούτων οὐ πείθομαι οὐθέν, οὐ γάρ ἐστιν ἐν γωνίᾳ πεπραγμένον τοῦτο. |
For the king knows about these things, and to him I speak freely; for I am persuaded that none of these things has escaped his notice, for this was not done in a corner. |
|
| 27 | πιστεύεις, βασιλεῦ Ἀγρίππα, τοῖς προφήταις; οἶδα ὅτι πιστεύεις. |
King Agrippa, do you believe the prophets? I know that you believe." |
|
| 28 | ὁ δὲ Ἀγρίππας πρὸς τὸν Παῦλον, Ἐν ὀλίγῳ με πείθεις Χριστιανὸν ποιῆσαι. |
And Agrippa said to Paul, "In a short time you think to make me a Christian!" |
|
| 29 | ὁ δὲ Παῦλος, Εὐξαίμην ἂν τῷ θεῷ καὶ ἐν ὀλίγῳ καὶ ἐν μεγάλῳ οὐ μόνον σὲ ἀλλὰ καὶ πάντας τοὺς ἀκούοντάς μου σήμερον γενέσθαι τοιούτους ὁποῖος καὶ ἐγώ εἰμι, παρεκτὸς τῶν δεσμῶν τούτων. |
And Paul said, "Whether short or long, I would to God that not only you but also all who hear me this day might become such as I am - except for these chains." |

| 30 | Ἀνέστη τε ὁ βασιλεὺς καὶ ὁ ἡγεμὼν ἡ τε Βερνίκη καὶ οἱ συγκαθήμενοι αὐτοῖς, |
Then the king rose, and the governor and Berni'ce and those who were sitting with them; |
|
| 31 | καὶ ἀναχωρήσαντες ἐλάλουν πρὸς ἀλλήλους λέγοντες ὅτι Οὐδὲν θανάτου ἢ δεσμῶν ἀξιον [τι] πράσσει ὁ ἄνθρωπος οὗτος. |
and when they had withdrawn, they said to one another, "This man is doing nothing to deserve death or imprisonment." |
|
| 32 | Ἀγρίππας δὲ τῷ Φήστῳ ἐφη, Ἀπολελύσθαι ἐδύνατο ὁ ἄνθρωπος οὗτος εἰ μὴ ἐπεκέκλητο Καίσαρα. |
And Agrip'pa said to Festus, "This man could have been set free if he had not appealed to Caesar." |
