Συγκαλεσάμενος δὲ τοὺς δώδεκα ἐδωκεν αὐτοῖς δύναμιν καὶ ἐξουσίαν ἐπὶ πάντα τὰ δαιμόνια καὶ νόσους θεραπεύειν, And he called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases,The Mission of the Twelve Lk.9.1-6 | Mt.10.5-15 | Mk.6.7-13
καὶ ἀπέστειλεν αὐτοὺς κηρύσσειν τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ ἰᾶσθαι [τοὺς ἀσθενεῖς], and he sent them out to preach the kingdom of God and to heal.

And whatever house you enter, stay there, and from there depart.
And wherever they do not receive you, when you leave that town shake off the dust from your feet as a testimony against them."
And they departed and went through the villages, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere.
Ἤκουσεν δὲ Ἡρῴδης ὁ τετραάρχης τὰ γινόμενα πάντα, καὶ διηπόρει διὰ τὸ λέγεσθαι ὑπό τινων ὅτι Ἰωάννης ἠγέρθη ἐκ νεκρῶν, Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was done, and he was perplexed, because it was said by some that John had been raised from the dead,Herod's Anxiety Lk.9.7-9 | Mt.14.1-12 | Mk.6.14-29
ὑπό τινων δὲ ὅτι Ἠλίας ἐφάνη, ἀλλων δὲ ὅτι προφήτης τις τῶν ἀρχαίων ἀνέστη. by some that Eli'jah had appeared, and by others that one of the old prophets had risen.
Herod said, "John I beheaded; but who is this about whom I hear such things?" And he sought to see him.
On their return the apostles told him what they had done. And he took them and withdrew apart to a city called Beth-sa'ida.The Feeding of the Five Thousand Lk.9.10-17 | Mt.14.13-21 | Mk.6.30-44 | Jn.6.1-14
When the crowds learned it, they followed him; and he welcomed them and spoke to them of the kingdom of God, and cured those who had need of healing.
Now the day began to wear away; and the twelve came and said to him, "Send the crowd away, to go into the villages and country round about, to lodge and get provisions; for we are here in a lonely place."
But he said to them, "You give them something to eat." They said, "We have no more than five loaves and two fish - unless we are to go and buy food for all these people."
For there were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, "Make them sit down in companies, about fifty each."
And they did so, and made them all sit down.
And taking the five loaves and the two fish he looked up to heaven, and blessed and broke them, and gave them to the disciples to set before the crowd.
And all ate and were satisfied. And they took up what was left over, twelve baskets of broken pieces.
Καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ εἶναι αὐτὸν προσευχόμενον κατὰ μόνας συνῆσαν αὐτῷ οἱ μαθηταί, καὶ ἐπηρώτησεν αὐτοὺς λέγων, Τίνα με λέγουσιν οἱ ὀχλοι εἶνα; Now it happened that as he was praying alone the disciples were with him; and he asked them, "Who do the people say that I am?"Peter's Declaration about Jesus Lk.9.18-21 | Mt.16.13-20 | Mk.8.27-30

And they answered, "John the Baptist; but others say, Eli'jah; and others, that one of the old prophets has risen."
And he said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" And Peter answered, "The Christ of God."
Ὁ δὲ ἐπιτιμήσας αὐτοῖς παρήγγειλεν μηδενὶ λέγειν τοῦτο, But he charged and commanded them to tell this to no one,
εἰπὼν ὅτι Δεῖ τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου πολλὰ παθεῖν καὶ ἀποδοκιμασθῆναι ἀπὸ τῶν πρεσβυτέρων καὶ ἀρχιερέων καὶ γραμματέων καὶ ἀποκτανθῆναι καὶ τῇ τρίτῃ ἡμέρᾳ ἐγερθῆναι. saying, "The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised."Jesus Foretells His Death and Resurrection Lk.9.22-27 | Mt.16.21-28 | Mk.8.31-9.1

And he said to all, "If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.
For whoever would save his life will lose it; and whoever loses his life for my sake, he will save it.
τί γὰρ ὠφελεῖται ἄνθρωπος κερδήσας τὸν κόσμον ὁλον ἑαυτὸν δὲ ἀπολέσας ἢ ζημιωθείς; For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself?
For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of man be ashamed when he comes in his glory and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.
But I tell you truly, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God."
Now about eight days after these sayings he took with him Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray. The Transfiguration of Jesus Lk.9.28-36 | Mt.17.1-13 | Mk.9.2-13

And as he was praying, the appearance of his countenance was altered, and his raiment became dazzling white.
καὶ ἰδοὺ ἀνδρες δύο συνελάλουν αὐτῷ, οἱτινες ἦσαν Μωϋσῆς καὶ Ἠλίας, And behold, two men talked with him, Moses and Eli'jah,
οἳ ὀφθέντες ἐν δόξῃ ἐλεγον τὴν ἐξοδον αὐτοῦ ἣν ἠμελλεν πληροῦν ἐν Ἰερουσαλήμ. who appeared in glory and spoke of his departure, which he was to accomplish at Jerusalem.
Now Peter and those who were with him were heavy with sleep, and when they wakened they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him.
And as the men were parting from him, Peter said to Jesus, "Master, it is well that we are here; let us make three booths, one for you and one for Moses and one for Eli'jah" - not knowing what he said.
As he said this, a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they were afraid as they entered the cloud.
And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!"
And when the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silence and told no one in those days anything of what they had seen.
On the next day, when they had come down from the mountain, a great crowd met him.The Healing of a Boy with an Unclean Spirit Lk.9.37-43 | Mt.17.14-21 | Mk.9.14-29

καὶ ἰδοὺ ἀνὴρ ἀπὸ τοῦ ὀχλου ἐβόησεν λέγων, Διδάσκαλε, δέομαί σου ἐπιβλέψαι ἐπὶ τὸν υἱόν μου, ὅτι μονογενής μοί ἐστιν, And behold, a man from the crowd cried, "Teacher, I beg you to look upon my son, for he is my only child;
καὶ ἰδοὺ Πνεῦμα λαμβάνει αὐτόν, καὶ ἐξαίφνης κράζει, καὶ σπαράσσει αὐτὸν μετὰ ἀφροῦ καὶ μόγις ἀποχωρεῖ ἀπ' αὐτοῦ συντρῖβον αὐτόν· and behold, a spirit seizes him, and he suddenly cries out; it convulses him till he foams, and shatters him, and will hardly leave him.
And I begged your disciples to cast it out, but they could not."
Jesus answered, "O faithless and perverse generation, how long am I to be with you and bear with you? Bring your son here."
While he was coming, the demon tore him and convulsed him. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the boy, and gave him back to his father.
Πάντων δὲ θαυμαζόντων ἐπὶ πᾶσιν οἷς ἐποίει εἶπεν πρὸς τοὺς μαθητὰς αὐτοῦ, And all were astonished at the majesty of God.

But while they were all marveling at everything he did, he said to his disciples,

"Let these words sink into your ears; for the Son of man is to be delivered into the hands of men."
But they did not understand this saying, and it was concealed from them, that they should not perceive it; and they were afraid to ask him about this saying.
And an argument arose among them as to which of them was the greatest.Who is the Greatest? Lk.9.46-48 | Mt.18.1-5 | Mk.9.33-37

ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς εἰδὼς τὸν διαλογισμὸν τῆς καρδίας αὐτῶν ἐπιλαβόμενος παιδίον ἐστησεν αὐτὸ παρ' ἑαυτῷ, But when Jesus perceived the thought of their hearts, he took a child and put him by his side,
καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, Ὃς ἐὰν δέξηται τοῦτο τὸ παιδίον ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματί μου ἐμὲ δέχεται, καὶ ὃς ἂν ἐμὲ δέξηται δέχεται τὸν ἀποστείλαντά με· ὁ γὰρ μικρότερος ἐν πᾶσιν ὑμ ῖν ὑπάρχων οὗτός ἐστιν μέγας. and said to them, "Whoever receives this child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me receives him who sent me; for he who is least among you all is the one who is great."
But Jesus said to him, "Do not forbid him; for he that is not against you is for you."
Ἐγένετο δὲ ἐν τῷ συμπληροῦσθαι τὰς ἡμέρας τῆς ἀναλήμψεως αὐτοῦ καὶ αὐτὸς τὸ πρόσωπον ἐστήρισεν τοῦ πορεύεσθαι εἰς Ἰερουσαλήμ, When the days drew near for him to be received up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem.A Samaritan Village Refuses to Receive Jesus Lk.9.51-56

καὶ οὐκ ἐδέξαντο αὐτόν, ὅτι τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ ἦν πορευόμενον εἰς Ἰερουσαλήμ. but the people would not receive him, because his face was set toward Jerusalem.
ἰδόντες δὲ οἱ μαθηταὶ Ἰάκωβος καὶ Ἰωάννης εἶπαν, Κύριε, θέλεις εἰπωμεν πῦρ καταβῆναι ἀπὸ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ καὶ ἀναλῶσα αὐτούς; And when his disciples James and John saw it, they said, "Lord, do you want us to bid fire come down from heaven and consume them?"
But he turned and rebuked them.
And they went on to another village.
As they were going along the road, a man said to him, "I will follow you wherever you go."The Would-Be Followers of Jesus Lk.9.57-62 | Mt.8.19-22
