| 18 | τὰ δὲ ἐκπορευόμενα ἐκ τοῦ στόματος ἐκ τῆς καρδίας ἐξέρχεται, κἀκεῖνα κοινοῖ τὸν ἄνθρωπον. | But what comes out of the mouth has its origins in the heart; and that is what defiles a man. | |
| 19 | ἐκ γὰρ τῆς καρδίας ἐξέρχονται διαλογισμοὶ πονηροί, φόνοι, μοιχεῖαι, πορνεῖαι, κλοπαί, ψευδομαρτυρίαι, βλασφημίαι. | Wicked thoughts, murder, adultery, fornication, theft, perjury, slander - these all proceed from the heart; | |
| 20 | ταῦτά ἐστιν τὰ κοινοῦντα τὸν ἄνθρωπον, τὸ δὲ ἀνίπτοις χερσὶν φαγεῖν οὐ κοινοῖ τὸν ἄνθρωπον. | and these are the things that defile a man; but to eat without first washing his hands, that cannot defile him.' |
