Philippians

Reference
1Εἰ τις οὖν παράκλησις ἐν Χριστῷ, εἰ τι παραμύθιον ἀγάπης, εἰ τις κοινωνία πνεύματος, εἰ τις σπλάγχνα καὶ οἰκτιρμοί, IF THEN our common life in Christ yields anything to stir the heart, any loving consolation, any sharing of the Spirit, any warmth of affection or compassion,Christian Humility and Christ's Humility Php.2.1-11
2πληρώσατέ μου τὴν χαρὰν ἵνα τὸ αὐτὸ φρονῆτε, τὴν αὐτὴν ἀγάπην ἐχοντες, σύμψυχοι, τὸ ἓν φρονοῦντες, fill up my cup of happiness by thinking and feeling alike, with the same love for one another, the same turn of mind, and a common care for unity.
3μηδὲν κατ' ἐριθείαν μηδὲ κατὰ κενοδοξίαν, ἀλλὰ τῇ ταπεινοφροσύνῃ ἀλλήλους ἡγούμενοι ὑπερέχοντας ἑαυτῶν, Rivalry and personal vanity should have no place among you, but you should humbly reckon others better than yourselves.
You must look to each other's interest and not merely to your own.

5τοῦτο φρονεῖτε ἐν ὑμῖν ὃ καὶ ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ, Let your bearing towards one another arise out of your life in Christ Jesus.

6ὃς ἐν μορφῇ θεοῦ ὑπάρχων οὐχ ἀρπαγμὸν ἡγήσατο τὸ εἶναι ἰσα θεῷ, For the divine nature was his from the first;
yet he did not think to snatch at equality with God,
 Php.2.6-11
7ἀλλὰ ἑαυτὸν ἐκένωσεν μορφὴν δούλου λαβών, ἐν ὁμοιώματι ἀνθρώπων γενόμενος· καὶ σχήματι εὑρεθεὶς ὡς ἄνθρωπος but made himself nothing, assuming the nature of a slave.

Bearing the human likeness,

he humbled himself,
and in obedience accepted even death
- death on a cross.

9διὸ καὶ ὁ θεὸς αὐτὸν ὑπερύψωσεν καὶ ἐχαρίσατο αὐτῷ τὸ ὀνομα τὸ ὑπὲρ πᾶν ὀνομα, Therefore God raised him to the heights
and bestowed on him the name above all names,

10ἵνα ἐν τῷ ὀνόματι Ἰησοῦ ΠΑN ΓONΥ KΑMΨH ἐπουρανίων καὶ ἐπιγείων καὶ καταχθονίων, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow -
in heaven, on earth, and in the depths -
- every knee should bow and under the earth, Php.2.10 | Is.45.23
11KΑI ΠΑΣΑ ΓΛΩΣΣΑ ΕΞOMOΛOΓHΣHTΑI ὅτι κύριος Ἰησοῦς Χριστὸς εἰς δόξαν ΘΕΟΥ πατρός. and every tongue confess, 'Jesus Christ is Lord',
to the glory of God the Father.

12Ὥστε, ἀγαπητοί μου, καθὼς πάντοτε ὑπηκούσατε, μὴ ὡς ἐν τῇ παρουσίᾳ μου μόνον ἀλλὰ νῦν πολλῷ μᾶλλον ἐν τῇ ἀπουσίᾳ μου, μετὰ φόβου καὶ τρόμου τὴν ἑαυτῶν σωτηρίαν κατεργα ζεσθε· So you too, my friends, must be obedient, as always; even more, now that I am away, than when I was with you. You must work out your own salvation in fear and trembling;Shining as Lights in the World Php.2.12-18
13θεὸς γάρ ἐστιν ὁ ἐνεργῶν ἐν ὑμῖν καὶ τὸ θέλειν καὶ τὸ ἐνεργεῖν ὑπὲρ τῆς εὐδοκίας. for it is God who works in you, inspiring both the will and the deed, for his own chosen purpose.

14πάντα ποιεῖτε χωρὶς γογγυσμῶν καὶ διαλογισμῶν, Do all you have to do without complaint or wrangling.
15ἵνα γένησθε ἀμεμπτοι καὶ ἀκέραιοι, τέκνα θεοῦ ἀμωμα μέσον γενεᾶς σκολιᾶς καὶ διεστραμμένης, ἐν οἷς φαίνεσθε ὡς φωστῆρες ἐν κόσμῳ, Show yourselves guileless and above reproach, faultless children of God in a warped and crooked generation, in which you shine like stars in a dark world and proffer the word of life.
Thus you will be my pride on the Day of Christ, proof that I did not run my race in vain, or work in vain.
17ἀλλὰ εἰ καὶ σπένδομαι ἐπὶ τῇ θυσίᾳ καὶ λειτουργίᾳ τῆς πίστεως ὑμῶν, χαίρω καὶ συγχαίρω πᾶσιν ὑμῖν· But if my life-blood is to crown that sacrifice which is the offering up of your faith, I am glad of it, and I share my gladness with you all.
Rejoice, you no less than I, and let us share our joy.

I HOPE (under the Lord Jesus) to send Timothy to you soon; it will cheer me to hear news of you.Timothy and Epaphroditus Php.2.19-30
20οὐδένα γὰρ ἐχω ἰσόψυχον ὁστις γνησίως τὰ περὶ ὑμῶν μεριμνήσει, There is no one else here who sees things as I do, and takes a genuine interest in your concerns;
21οἱ πάντες γὰρ τὰ ἑαυτῶν ζητοῦσιν, οὐ τὰ Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ. they are all bent on their own ends, not on the cause of Christ Jesus.
But Timothy's record is known to you: you know that he has been at my side in the service of the Gospel like a son working under his father.
23τοῦτον μὲν οὖν ἐλπίζω πέμψαι ὡς ἂν ἀφίδω τὰ περὶ ἐμὲ ἐξαυτῆς· Timothy, then, I hope to send as soon as ever I can see how things are going with me;
24πέποιθα δὲ ἐν κυρίῳ ὅτι καὶ αὐτὸς ταχέως ἐλεύσομαι. and I am confident, under the Lord, that I shall myself be coming before long.

25Ἀναγκαῖον δὲ ἡγησάμην Ἐπαφρόδιτον τὸν ἀδελφὸν καὶ συνεργὸν καὶ συστρατιώτην μου, ὑμῶν δὲ ἀπόστολον καὶ λειτουργὸν τῆς χρείας μου, πέμψαι πρὸς ὑμᾶς, I feel also I must send our brother Epaphroditus, my fellow-worker and comrade, whom you commissioned to minister to my needs.
He has been missing all of you sadly, and has been distressed that you heard he was ill.
(He was indeed dangerously ill, but God was merciful to him, and merciful no less to me, to spare me sorrow upon sorrow.)
For this reason I am all the more eager to send him, to give you the happiness of seeing him again, and to relieve my sorrow.
29προσδέχεσθε οὖν αὐτὸν ἐν κυρίῳ μετὰ πάσης χαρᾶς, καὶ τοὺς τοιούτους ἐντίμους ἐχετε, Welcome him then in the fellowship of the Lord with wholehearted delight. You should honour men like him;
30ὁτι διὰ τὸ ἐργον Χριστοῦ μέχρι θανάτου ἠγγισεν, παραβολευσάμενος τῇ ψυχῇ ἵνα ἀναπληρώσῃ τὸ ὑμῶν ὑστέρημα τῆς πρός με λειτουργίας. in Christ's cause he came near to death, risking his life to render me the service you could not give.
