Καὶ ὑμᾶς ὀντας νεκροὺς τοῖς παραπτώμασιν καὶ ταῖς ἀμαρτίαις ὑμῶν, TIME WAS when you were dead in your sins and wickedness,From Death to Life Eph.2.1-10
ἐν αἷς ποτε περιεπατήσατε κατὰ τὸν αἰῶνα τοῦ κόσμου τούτου, κατὰ τὸν ἀρχοντα τῆς ἐξουσίας τοῦ ἀέρος, τοῦ πνεύματος τοῦ νῦν ἐνεργοῦντος ἐν τοῖς υἱοῖς τῆς ἀπειθείας· when you followed the evil ways of this present age, when you obeyed the commander of the spiritual powers of the air, the spirit now at work among God's rebel subjects.
ἐν οἷς καὶ ἡμεῖς πάντες ἀνεστράφημέν ποτε ἐν ταῖς ἐπιθυμίαις τῆς σαρκὸς ἡμῶν, ποιοῦντες τὰ θελήματα τῆς σαρκὸς καὶ τῶν διανοιῶν, καὶ ἠμεθα τέκνα φύσει ὀργῆς ὡς καὶ οἱ λοιποί· We too were of their number: we all lived our lives in sensuality, and obeyed the promptings of our own instincts and notions. In our natural condition we, like the rest, lay under the dreadful judgement of God.
ὁ δὲ θεὸς πλούσιος ὢν ἐν ἐλέει, διὰ τὴν πολλὴν ἀγάπην αὐτοῦ ἣν ἠγάπησεν ἡμᾶς, But God, rich in mercy, for the great love he bore us,
καὶ ὀντας ἡμᾶς νεκροὺς τοῖς παραπτώμασιν συνεζωοποίησεν τῷ Χριστῷ - χάριτί ἐστε σεσῳσμένοι - brought us to life with Christ even when we were dead in our sins; it is by his grace you are saved.
καὶ συνήγειρεν καὶ συνεκάθισεν ἐν τοῖς ἐπουρανίοις ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ, And in union with Christ Jesus he raised us up and enthroned us with him in the heavenly realms,
ἵνα ἐνδείξηται ἐν τοῖς αἰῶσιν τοῖς ἐπερχομένοις τὸ ὑπερβάλλον πλοῦτος τῆς χάριτος αὐτοῦ ἐν χρηστότητι ἐφ' ἡμᾶς ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ. so that he might display in the ages to come how immense are the resources of his grace, and how great his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.
τῇ γὰρ χάριτί ἐστε σεσῳσμένοι διὰ πίστεως· καὶ τοῦτο οὐκ ἐξ ὑμῶν, θεοῦ τὸ δῶρον· For it is by his grace you are saved, through trusting him; it is not your own doing. It is God's gift, not a reward for work done.
οὐκ ἐξ ἐργων, ἵνα μή τις καυχήσηται. There is nothing for anyone to boast of.
For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to devote ourselves to the good deeds for which God has designed us.

Διὸ μνημονεύετε ὅτι ποτὲ ὑμεῖς τὰ ἐθνη ἐν σαρκί, οἱ λεγόμενοι ἀκροβυστία ὑπὸ τῆς λεγομένης περιτομῆς ἐν σαρκὶ χειροποιήτου, Remember then your former condition: you, Gentiles as you are outwardly, you, 'the uncircumcised' so called by those who are called 'the circumcised' (but only with reference to an outward rite)One in Christ Eph.2.11-22
ὁτι ἦτε τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ χωρὶς Χριστοῦ, ἀπηλλοτριωμένοι τῆς πολιτείας τοῦ Ἰσραὴλ καὶ ξένοι τῶν διαθηκῶν τῆς ἐπαγγελίας, ἐλπίδα μὴ ἐχοντες καὶ ἀθεοι ἐν τῷ κόσμῳ. you were at that time separate from Christ, strangers to the community of Israel, outside God's covenants and the promise that goes with them. Your world was a world without hope and without God.
But now in union with Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near through the shedding of Christ's blood.
Αὐτὸς γάρ ἐστιν ἡ εἰρήνη ἡμῶν, ὁ ποιήσας τὰ ἀμφότερα ἓν καὶ τὸ μεσότοιχον τοῦ φραγμοῦ λύσας, τὴν ἐχθραν, ἐν τῇ σαρκὶ αὐτοῦ, For he is himself our peace. Gentiles and Jews, he has made the two one, and in his own body of flesh and blood has broken down the enmity which stood like a dividing wall between them;
τὸν νόμον τῶν ἐντολῶν ἐν δόγμασιν καταργήσας, ἵνα τοὺς δύο κτίσῃ ἐν αὐτῷ εἰς ἑνα καινὸν ἄνθρωπον ποιῶν εἰρήνην, for he annulled the law with its rules and regulations, so as to create out of the two a single new humanity in himself, thereby making peace.
This was his purpose, to reconcile the two in a single body to God through the cross, on which he killed the enmity.

καὶ ἐλθὼν εὐηγγελίσατο εἰρήνην ὑμῖν τοῖς μακρὰν καὶ εἰρήνην τοῖς ἐγγύς· So he came and proclaimed the good news: peace to you who were far off, and peace to those who were near by;- And he came and preached peace to you who were far Eph.2.17 | Is.57.19 | Is.52.7 | Zch.9.10
ὁτι δῖ αὐτοῦ ἐχομεν τὴν προσαγωγὴν οἱ ἀμφότεροι ἐν ἑνὶ πνεύματι πρὸς τὸν πατέρα. for through him we both alike have access is to the Father in the one Spirit.
ἀρα οὖν οὐκέτι ἐστὲ ξένοι καὶ πάροικοι, ἀλλὰ ἐστὲ συμπολῖται τῶν ἀγίων καὶ οἰκεῖοι τοῦ θεοῦ, Thus you are no longer aliens in a foreign land, but fellow-citizens with God's people, members of God's household.
ἐποικοδομηθέντες ἐπὶ τῷ θεμελίῳ τῶν ἀποστόλων καὶ προφητῶν, ὀντος ἀκρογωνιαίου αὐτοῦ Χριστοῦ Ἰησοῦ, You are built upon the foundation laid by the apostles and prophets, and Christ Jesus himself is the foundation-stone.
ἐν ᾧ πᾶσα οἰκοδομὴ συναρμολογουμένη αὐξει εἰς ναὸν ἀγιον ἐν κυρίῳ, In him the whole building is bonded together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord.
ἐν ᾧ καὶ ὑμεῖς συνοικοδομεῖσθε εἰς κατοικητήριον τοῦ θεοῦ ἐν πνεύματι. In him you too are being built with all the rest into a spiritual dwelling for God.
