ΠΡΟΣ ΚΟΡΙΝΘΙΟΥΣ Α

I Corinthians

1Περὶ δὲ τῶν πνευματικῶν, ἀδελφοί, οὐ θέλω ὑμᾶς ἀγνοεῖν. ABOUT GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT, there are some things of which I do not wish you to remain ignorant.
Spitritual Gifts 1Cor.12.1-11
2Οἰδατε ὅτι ὅτε ἐθνη ἦτε πρὸς τὰ εἰδωλα τὰ ἀφωνα ὡς ἂν ἠγεσθε ἀπαγόμενοι. You know how, in the days when you were still pagan, you were swept off to those dumb heathen gods, however you happened to be led. 
3διὸ γνωρίζω ὑμῖν ὅτι οὐδεὶς ἐν πνεύματι θεοῦ λαλῶν λέγει, Ἀνάθεμα Ἰησοῦς, καὶ οὐδεὶς δύναται εἰπεῖν, Κύριος Ἰησοῦς, εἰ μὴ ἐν πνεύματι ἀγίῳ. For this reason I must impress upon you that no one who says 'A curse on Jesus!' can be speaking under the influence of the Spirit of God. And no one can say 'Jesus is Lord!' except under the influence of the Holy Spirit.
 
4Διαιρέσεις δὲ χαρισμάτων εἰσίν, τὸ δὲ αὐτὸ πνεῦμα· There are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. 
5καὶ διαιρέσεις διακονιῶν εἰσιν, καὶ ὁ αὐτὸς κύριος· There are varieties of service, but the same Lord. 
6καὶ διαιρέσεις ἐνεργημάτων εἰσίν, ὁ δὲ αὐτὸς θεός, ὁ ἐνεργῶν τὰ πάντα ἐν πᾶσιν. There are many forms of work, but all of them, in all men, are the work of the same God. 
7ἑκάστῳ δὲ δίδοται ἡ φανέρωσις τοῦ πνεύματος πρὸς τὸ συμφέρον. In each of us the Spirit is manifested in one particular way, for some useful purpose. 
8ᾧ μὲν γὰρ διὰ τοῦ πνεύματος δίδοται λόγος σοφίας, ἀλλῳ δὲ λόγος γνώσεως κατὰ τὸ αὐτὸ πνεῦμα, One man, through the Spirit, has the gift of wise speech, while another, by the power of the same Spirit, can put the deepest knowledge into words. 
9ἑτέρῳ πίστις ἐν τῷ αὐτῷ πνεύματι, ἀλλῳ δὲ χαρίσματα ἰαμάτων ἐν τῷ ἑνὶ πνεύματι, Another, by the same Spirit, is granted faith; another, by the one Spirit, gifts of healing, 
10ἀλλῳ δὲ ἐνεργήματα δυνάμεων, ἀλλῳ [δὲ] προφητεία, ἀλλῳ [δὲ] διακρίσεις πνευμάτων, ἑτέρῳ γένη γλωσσῶν, ἀλλῳ δὲ ἑρμηνεία γλωσσῶν· and another miraculous powers; another has the gift of prophecy, and another ability to distinguish true spirits from false; yet another has the gift of ecstatic utterance of different kinds, and another the ability to interpret it. 
11πάντα δὲ ταῦτα ἐνεργεῖ τὸ ἓν καὶ τὸ αὐτὸ πνεῦμα, διαιροῦν ἰδίᾳ ἑκάστῳ καθὼς βούλεται. But all these gifts are the work of one and the same Spirit, distributing them separately to each individual at will.
 
12Καθάπερ γὰρ τὸ σῶμα ἑν ἐστιν καὶ μέλη πολλὰ ἐχει, πάντα δὲ τὰ μέλη τοῦ σώματος πολλὰ ὀντα ἑν ἐστιν σῶμα, οὑτως καὶ ὁ Χριστός· For Christ is like a single body with its many limbs and organs, which, many as they are, together make up one body.One Body with Many Members 1Cor.12.12-31
13καὶ γὰρ ἐν ἑνὶ πνεύματι ἡμεῖς πάντες εἰς ἓν σῶμα ἐβαπτίσθημεν, εἰτε Ἰουδαῖοι εἰτε Ἑλληνες, εἰτε δοῦλοι εἰτε ἐλεύθεροι, καὶ πάντες ἓν Πνεῦμα ἐποτίσθημεν. For indeed we were all brought into one body by baptism, in the one Spirit, whether we are Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free men, and that one Holy Spirit was poured out for all of us to drink.
 
14καὶ γὰρ τὸ σῶμα οὐκ ἐστιν ἓν μέλος ἀλλὰ πολλά. A body is not one single organ, but many. 
15ἐὰν εἰπῃ ὁ πούς, Ὅτι οὐκ εἰμὶ χείρ, οὐκ εἰμὶ ἐκ τοῦ σώματος, οὐ παρὰ τοῦτο οὐκ ἐστιν ἐκ τοῦ σώματος· Suppose the foot should say, 'Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body', it does belong to the body none the less. 
16καὶ ἐὰν εἰπῃ τὸ οὖς, Ὅτι οὐκ εἰμὶ ὀφθαλμός, οὐκ εἰμὶ ἐκ τοῦ σώματος, οὐ παρὰ τοῦτο οὐκ ἐστιν ἐκ τοῦ σώματος· Suppose the ear were to say, 'Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body', it does still belong to the body. 
17εἰ ὁλον τὸ σῶμα ὀφθαλμός, ποῦ ἡ ἀκοή; εἰ ὁλον ἀκοή, ποῦ ἡ ὀσφρησις; If the body were all eye, how could it hear? If the body were all ear, how could it is smell? 
18νυνὶ δὲ ὁ θεὸς ἐθετο τὰ μέλη, ἓν ἑκαστον αὐτῶν, ἐν τῷ σώματι καθὼς ἠθέλησεν. But, in fact. God appointed each limb and organ to its own place in the body, as he chose. 
19εἰ δὲ ἦν τὰ πάντα ἓν μέλος, ποῦ τὸ σῶμὰ; If the whole were one single organ, there would not be a body at all; 
20νῦν δὲ πολλὰ μὲν μέλη, ἓν δὲ σῶμα. in fact, however, there are many different organs, but one body. 
21οὐ δύναται δὲ ὁ ὀφθαλμὸς εἰπεῖν τῇ χειρί, Χρείαν σου οὐκ ἐχω, ἢ πάλιν ἡ κεφαλὴ τοῖς ποσίν, Χρείαν ὑμῶν οὐκ ἐχω· The eye cannot say to the hand, 'I do not need you'; nor the head to the feet, 'I do not need you.' 
22ἀλλὰ πολλῷ μᾶλλον τὰ δοκοῦντα μέλη τοῦ σώματος ἀσθενέστερα ὑπάρχειν ἀναγκαῖά ἐστιν, Quite the contrary: those organs of the body which seem to be more frail than others are indispensable, 
23καὶ ἂ δοκοῦμεν ἀτιμότερα εἶναι τοῦ σώματος, τούτοις τιμὴν περισσοτέραν περιτίθεμεν, καὶ τὰ ἀσχήμονα ἡμῶν εὐσχημοσύνην περισσοτέραν ἐχει, and those parts of the body which we regard as less honourable are treated with special honour. To our unseemly parts is given a more than ordinary seemliness, 
24τὰ δὲ εὐσχήμονα ἡμῶν οὐ χρείαν ἐχει. ἀλλὰ ὁ θεὸς συνεκέρασεν τὸ σῶμα, τῷ ὑστερουμένῳ περισσοτέραν δοὺς τιμήν, whereas our seemly parts need no adorning. But God has combined the various pans of the body, giving special honour to the humbler parts, 
25ἵνα μὴ ᾖ σχίσμα ἐν τῷ σώματι, ἀλλὰ τὸ αὐτὸ ὑπὲρ ἀλλήλων μεριμνῶσιν τὰ μέλη. so that there might be no sense of division in the body, but that all its organs might feel the same concern for one another. If one organ suffers, they all suffer together. 
26καὶ εἰτε πάσχει ἓν μέλος, συμπάσχει πάντα τὰ μέλη· εἰτε δοξάζεται [ἓν] μέλος, συγχαίρει πάντα τὰ μέλη. If one flourishes, they all rejoice together.
 
27Ὑμεῖς δέ ἐστε σῶμα Χριστοῦ καὶ μέλη ἐκ μέρους. Now you are Christ's body, and each of you a limb or organ of it. 
28καὶ οὓς μὲν ἐθετο ὁ θεὸς ἐν τῇ ἐκκλησίᾳ πρῶτον ἀποστόλους, δεύτερον προφήτας, τρίτον διδασκάλους, ἐπειτα δυνάμεις, ἐπειτα χαρίσματα ἰαμάτων, ἀντιλήμψεις, κυβερνήσεις, γέν η γλωσσῶν. Within our community God has appointed, in the first place apostles, in the second place prophets, thirdly teachers; then miracle-workers, then those who have gifts of healing, or ability to help others or power to guide them, or the gift of ecstatic utterance of various kinds. 
29μὴ πάντες ἀπόστολοὶ; μὴ πάντες προφῆταὶ; μὴ πάντες διδάσκαλοὶ; μὴ πάντες δυνάμεις; Are all apostles? all prophets? all teachers? Do all work miracles? 
30μὴ πάντες χαρίσματα ἐχουσιν ἰαμάτων; μὴ πάντες γλώσσαις λαλοῦσιν; μὴ πάντες διερμηνεύουσιν; Have all gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues of ecstasy? Can all interpret them?Love 1Cor.12.30-13.13
31ζηλοῦτε δὲ τὰ χαρίσματα τὰ μείζονα.

Καὶ ἐτι καθ' ὑπερβολὴν ὁδὸν ὑμῖν δείκνυμι.

The higher gifts are those you should aim at.

And now I will show you the best way of all.
