| 1 | Μετὰ δὲ ταῦτα ἀνέδειξεν ὁ κύριος ἑτέρους ἑβδομήκοντα [δύο], καὶ ἀπέστειλεν αὐτοὺς ἀνὰ δύο [δύο] πρὸ προσώπου αὐτοῦ εἰς πᾶσαν πόλιν καὶ τόπον οὗ ἠμελλεν αὐτὸς ἐρχεσθα ι. | After this the Lord appointed a further seventy-two and sent them on ahead in pairs to every town and place he was going to visit himself. | The Mission of the Seventy Two Lk.10.1-12 |
| 2 | ἐλεγεν δὲ πρὸς αὐτούς, Ὁ μὲν θερισμὸς πολύς, οἱ δὲ ἐργάται ὀλίγοι· δεήθητε οὖν τοῦ κυρίου τοῦ θερισμοῦ ὁπως ἐργάτας ἐκβάλῃ εἰς τὸν θερισμὸν αὐτοῦ. | He said to them: 'The crop is heavy, but labourers are scarce; you must therefore beg the owner to send labourers to harvest his crop. Be on your way. | |
| 3 | ὑπάγετε· ἰδοὺ ἀποστέλλω ὑμᾶς ὡς ἀρνας ἐν μέσῳ λύκων. | And look, I am sending you like lambs among wolves. | |
| 4 | μὴ βαστάζετε βαλλάντιον, μὴ πήραν, μὴ ὑποδήματα, καὶ μηδένα κατὰ τὴν ὁδὸν ἀσπάσησθε. | Carry no purse or pack, and travel barefoot. Exchange no greetings on the road. | |
| 5 | εἰς ἣν δ' ἂν εἰσέλθητε οἰκίαν, πρῶτον λέγετε, Εἰρήνη τῷ οἰκῳ τούτῳ. | When you go into a house, let your first words be, "Peace to this house." | |
| 6 | καὶ ἐὰν ἐκεῖ ᾖ υἱὸς εἰρήνης, ἐπαναπαήσεται ἐπ' αὐτὸν ἡ εἰρήνη ὑμῶν· εἰ δὲ μή γε, ἐφ' ὑμᾶς ἀνακάμψει. | If there is a man of peace there, your peace will rest upon him; if not, it will return and rest upon you. | |
| 7 | ἐν αὐτῇ δὲ τῇ οἰκίᾳ μένετε, ἐσθίοντες καὶ πίνοντες τὰ παρ' αὐτῶν, ἄξιος γὰρ ὁ ἐργάτης τοῦ μισθοῦ αὐτοῦ. μὴ μεταβαίνετε ἐξ οἰκίας εἰς οἰκίαν. | Stay in that one house, sharing their food and drink; for the worker earns his pay. | |
| 8 | καὶ εἰς ἣν ἂν πόλιν εἰσέρχησθε καὶ δέχωνται ὑμᾶς, ἐσθίετε τὰ παρατιθέμενα ὑμῖν, | Do not move from house to house. When you come into a town and they make you welcome, eat the food provided for you; | |
| 9 | καὶ θεραπεύετε τοὺς ἐν αὐτῇ ἀσθενεῖς, καὶ λέγετε αὐτοῖς, Ἤγγικεν ἐφ' ὑμᾶς ἡ βασιλεία τοῦ θεοῦ. | heal the sick there, and say, "The kingdom of God has come close to you." | |
| 10 | εἰς ἣν δ' ἂν πόλιν εἰσέλθητε καὶ μὴ δέχωνται ὑμᾶς, ἐξελθόντες εἰς τὰς πλατείας αὐτῆς εἰπατε, | When you enter a town and they do not make you welcome, go out into its streets and say, | |
| 11 | Καὶ τὸν κονιορτὸν τὸν κολληθέντα ἡμῖν ἐκ τῆς πόλεως ὑμῶν εἰς τοὺς πόδας ἀπομασσόμεθα ὑμῖν· πλὴν τοῦτο γινώσκετε ὅτι Ἤγγικεν ἡ βασιλεία τοῦ θεοῦ. | "The very dust of your town that clings to our feet we wipe off to your shame. | |
| 12 | λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι Σοδόμοις ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ ἀνεκτότερον ἐσται ἢ τῇ πόλει ἐκείνῃ. | Only take note of this: the kingdom of God has come close." I tell you, it will be more bearable for Sodom on the great Day than for that town. | |
| 13 | Οὐαί σοι, Χοραζίν· οὐαί σοι, Βηθσαϊδά· ὅτι εἰ ἐν Τύρῳ καὶ Σιδῶνι ἐγενήθησαν αἱ δυνάμεις αἱ γενόμεναι ἐν ὑμῖν, πάλαι ἂν ἐν σάκκῳ καὶ σποδῷ καθήμενοι μετενόησαν. | Alas for you, Chorazin! Alas for you, Bethsaida! | 14 | πλὴν Τύρῳ καὶ Σιδῶνι ἀνεκτότερον ἐσται ἐν τῇ κρίσει ἢ ὑμῖν. | But it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon at the Judgement than for you. | |
| 15 | καὶ σύ, Καφαρναούμ, μὴ μὴ ἕως οὐρανοῦ ὑψωθήσῃ; |

| 16 | Ὁ ἀκούων ὑμῶν ἐμοῦ ἀκούει, καὶ ὁ ἀθετῶν ὑμᾶς ἐμὲ ἀθετεῖ· ὁ δὲ ἐμὲ ἀθετῶν ἀθετεῖ τὸν ἀποστείλαντά με. | 'Whoever listens to you listens to me; whoever rejects you rejects me. And whoever rejects me rejects the One who sent me.' | |

| 19 | ἰδοὺ δέδωκα ὑμῖν τὴν ἐξουσίαν τοῦ πατεῖν ἐπάνω ὀφεων καὶ σκορπίων, καὶ ἐπὶ πᾶσαν τὴν δύναμιν τοῦ ἐχθροῦ, καὶ οὐδὲν ὑμᾶς οὐ μὴ ἀδικήσῃ. | And now you see that I have given you the power to tread underfoot snakes and scorpions and all the forces of the enemy, and nothing will ever harm you. | |
| 20 | πλὴν ἐν τούτῳ μὴ χαίρετε ὅτι τὰ πνεύματα ὑμῖν ὑποτάσσεται, χαίρετε δὲ ὅτι τὰ ὀνόματα ὑμῶν ἐγγέγραπται ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς. | Nevertheless, what you should rejoice over is not that the spirits submit to you, but that your names are enrolled in heaven.' | |
| 21 | Ἐν αὐτῇ τῇ ὡρᾳ ἠγαλλιάσατο [ἐν] τῷ πνεύματι τῷ ἀγίῳ καὶ εἶπεν, Ἐξομολογοῦμαί σοι, πάτερ, κύριε τοῦ οὐρανοῦ καὶ τῆς γῆς, ὅτι ἀπέκρυψας ταῦτα ἀπὸ σοφῶν καὶ συνετῶν, καὶ ἀπεκάλυψας αὐτὰ νηπίος· ναί, ὁ πατήρ, ὅτι οὕτως εὐδοκία ἐγένετο ἔμπροσθέν σου. | At that moment Jesus exulted in the Holy Spirit and said, 'I thank thee. Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for hiding these things from the learned and wise, and revealing them to the simple. | 22 | Πάντα μοι παρεδόθη ὑπὸ τοῦ πατρός μου, καὶ οὐδεὶς γινώσκει τίς ἐστιν ὁ υἱὸς εἰ μὴ ὁ πατήρ, καὶ τίς ἐστιν ὁ πατὴρ εἰ μὴ ὁ υἱὸς καὶ ᾧ ἐὰν βούληται ὁ υἱὸς ἀποκαλύψαι . | Then turning to his disciples he said, 'Everything is entrusted to me by my Father; and no one knows who the Son is but the Father, or who the Father is but the Son, and those to whom the Son may choose to reveal him.' | |
| 23 | Καὶ στραφεὶς πρὸς τοὺς μαθητὰς κατ' ἰδίαν εἶπεν, Μακάριοι οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ οἱ βλέποντες ἂ βλέπετε. | Turning to his disciples in private he said, 'Happy the eyes that see what you are seeing! | |
| 24 | λέγω γὰρ ὑμῖν ὅτι πολλοὶ προφῆται καὶ βασιλεῖς ἠθέλησαν ἰδεῖν ἂ ὑμεῖς βλέπετε καὶ οὐκ εἶδαν, καὶ ἀκοῦσαι ἂ ἀκούετε καὶ οὐκ ἠκουσαν. | I tell you, many prophets and kings wished to see what you now see, yet never saw it; to hear what you hear, yet never heard it.' | |
| 25 | Καὶ ἰδοὺ νομικός τις ἀνέστη ἐκπειράζων αὐτὸν λέγων, Διδάσκαλε, τί ποιήσας ζωὴν αἰώνιον κληρονομήσὼ; | ON ONE OCCASION a lawyer came forward to put this test question to him: 'Master, what must I do to inherit eternal life?' | The Good Samaritan Lk.10.25-37 |

| 29 | ὁ δὲ θέλων δικαιῶσαι ἑαυτὸν εἶπεν πρὸς τὸν Ἰησοῦν, Καὶ τίς ἐστίν μου πλησίον; | But he wanted to vindicate himself, so he said to Jesus, 'And who is my neighbour?' | |
| 30 | ὑπολαβὼν ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν, Ἄνθρωπός τις κατέβαινεν ἀπὸ Ἰερουσαλὴμ εἰς Ἰεριχὼ καὶ λῃσταῖς περιέπεσεν, οἳ καὶ ἐκδύσαντες αὐτὸν καὶ πληγὰς ἐπιθέντες ἀπῆλθον ἀφέντες ἡμιθα νῆ. | Jesus replied, 'A man was on his way from Jerusalem down to Jericho when he fell in with robbers, who stripped him, beat him, and went off leaving him half dead. | |
| 31 | κατὰ συγκυρίαν δὲ ἱερεύς τις κατέβαινεν ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ ἐκείνῃ, καὶ ἰδὼν αὐτὸν ἀντιπαρῆλθεν· | It so happened that a priest was going down by the same road; but when he saw him, he went past on the other side. | |
| 32 | ὁμοίως δὲ καὶ Λευίτης [γενόμενος] κατὰ τὸν τόπον ἐλθὼν καὶ ἰδὼν ἀντιπαρῆλθεν. | So too a Levite came to the place, and when he saw him went past on the other side. | |
| 33 | Σαμαρίτης δέ τις ὁδεύων ἦλθεν κατ' αὐτὸν καὶ ἰδὼν ἐσπλαγχνίσθη, | But a Samaritan who was making the journey came upon him, and when he saw him was moved to pity. | |
| 34 | καὶ προσελθὼν κατέδησεν τὰ τραύματα αὐτοῦ ἐπιχέων ἐλαιον καὶ οἶνον, ἐπιβιβάσας δὲ αὐτὸν ἐπὶ τὸ ἰδιον κτῆνος ἠγαγεν αὐτὸν εἰς πανδοχεῖον καὶ ἐπεμελήθη αὐτοῦ. | He went up and bandaged his wounds, bathing them with oil and wine. Then he lifted him on to his own beast, brought him to an inn, and looked after him there. | |
| 35 | καὶ ἐπὶ τὴν αὐριον ἐκβαλὼν ἐδωκεν δύο δηνάρια τῷ πανδοχεῖ καὶ εἶπεν, Ἐπιμελήθητι αὐτοῦ, καὶ ὁ τι ἂν προσδαπανήσῃς ἐγὼ ἐν τῷ ἐπανέρχεσθαί με ἀποδώσω σοι. | Next day he produced two silver pieces and gave them to the innkeeper, and said, "Look after him; and if you spend any more, I will repay you on my way back." | |
| 36 | τίς τούτων τῶν τριῶν πλησίον δοκεῖ σοι γεγονέναι τοῦ ἐμπεσόντος εἰς τοὺς λῃστάς; | Which of these three do you think was neighbour to the man who fell into the hands of the robbers?' | |
| 37 | ὁ δὲ εἶπεν, Ὁ ποιήσας τὸ ἐλεος μετ' αὐτοῦ. εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς, Πορεύου καὶ σὺ ποίει ὁμοίως. | He answered, 'The one who showed him kindness.' Jesus said, 'Go and do as he did.' | |
| 38 | Ἐν δὲ τῷ πορεύεσθαι αὐτοὺς αὐτὸς εἰσῆλθεν εἰς κώμην τινά· γυνὴ δέ τις ὀνόματι Μάρθα ὑπεδέξατο αὐτόν. | While they were on their way Jesus came to a village where a woman named Martha made him welcome in her home. | Visiting Martha and Mary Lk.10.38-42 |
| 39 | καὶ τῇδε ἦν ἀδελφὴ καλουμένη Μαριάμ, [ἣ] καὶ παρακαθεσθεῖσα πρὸς τοὺς πόδας τοῦ κυρίου ἠκουεν τὸν λόγον αὐτοῦ. | She had a sister, Mary, who seated herself at the Lord's feet and stayed there listening to his words. | |
| 40 | ἡ δὲ Μάρθα περιεσπᾶτο περὶ πολλὴν διακονίαν· ἐπιστᾶσα δὲ εἶπεν, Κύριε, οὐ μέλει σοι ὅτι ἡ ἀδελφή μου μόνην με κατέλιπεν διακονεῖν; εἰπὲ οὖν αὐτῇ ἵνα μοι συναντιλάβηται. | Now Martha was distracted by her many tasks, so she came to him and said, 'Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to get on with the work by myself? Tell her to come and lend a hand.' | |

| 42 | ἑνὸς δέ ἐστιν χρεία· Μαριὰμ γὰρ τὴν ἀγαθὴν μερίδα ἐξελέξατο ἡτις οὐκ ἀφαιρεθήσεται αὐτῆς. | but one thing is necessary. The part that Mary has chosen is best; and it shall not be taken away from her.' | |
