4ΡΟΥΘ Brenton(Lxx) RUTH Revised Standard Version LIBER RUTH 4

And Booz went up to the gate and sat there; and behold the relative passed by of whom Booz spoke: and Booz said to him Turn aside Boaz marries Ruth. Ru.4.1-12 And Bo'az went up to the gate and sat down there; and behold, the next of kin, of whom Bo'az had spoken, came by. So Bo'az said, "Turn aside, friend; sit down here"; and he turned aside and sat down.
And Booz took ten men of the elders of the city and said Sit ye here; and they sat down.   And he took ten men of the elders of the city, and said, "Sit down here"; so they sat down.
3 καὶ εἶπεν Βοος τῷ ἀγχιστεῖ Τὴν μερίδα τοῦ ἀγροῦ, ἥ ἐστιν τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ ἡμῶν τοῦ Αβιμελεχ, ἣ δέδοται Νωεμιν τῇ ἐπιστρεφούσῃ ἐξ ἀγροῦ Μωαβ, And Booz said to the relative [The matter regards] the portion of the field which was our brother Elimelech's which was given to Noemin now returning out of the land of Moab;   Then he said to the next of kin, "Na'omi, who has come back from the country of Moab, is selling the parcel of land which belonged to our kinsman Elim'elech.
ὁ δὲ εἶπεν Ἑγώ εἰμι ἀγχιστεύσω. and I said I will inform thee saying Buy it before those that sit and before the elders of my people: if thou wilt redeem it   So I thought I would tell you of it, and say, Buy it in the presence of those sitting here, and in the presence of the elders of my people. If you will redeem it, redeem it; but if you will not, tell me, that I may know, for there is no one besides you to redeem it, and I come after you." And he said, "I will redeem it."
And Booz said In the day of thy buying the field of the hand of Noemin and of Ruth the Moabitess the wife of the deceased thou must also buy her so as to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance.   Then Bo'az said, "The day you buy the field from the hand of Na'omi, you are also buying Ruth the Moabitess, the widow of the dead, in order to restore the name of the dead to his inheritance."
And the kinsman said I shall not be able to redeem it for myself lest I mar my own inheritance; do thou redeem my right for thyself for I shall not be able to redeem [it].   Then the next of kin said, "I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I impair my own inheritance. Take my right of redemption yourself, for I cannot redeem it."
And this [was] in former time the ordinance in Israel for redemption and for a bargain to confirm every word: A man loosed his shoe and gave it to his neighbour that redeemed his right; and this was a testimony in Israel.   Now this was the custom in former times in Israel concerning redeeming and exchanging: to confirm a transaction, the one drew off his sandal and gave it to the other, and this was the manner of attesting in Israel.
And the kinsman said to Booz Buy my right for thyself: and he took off his shoe and gave it to him.   So when the next of kin said to Bo'az, "Buy it for yourself," he drew off his sandal.
9 καὶ εἶπεν Βοος τοῖς πρεσβυτέροις καὶ παντὶ τῷ λαῷ Μάρτυρες ὑμεῖς σήμερον ὅτι κέκτημαι πάντα τὰ τοῦ Αβιμελεχ καὶ πάντα, ὅσα ὑπάρχει τῷ Χελαιων καὶ τῷ Μααλων, ἐκ χειρὸς Νωεμιν· And Booz said to the elders and to all the people Ye [are] this day witnesses that I have bought all that was Elimelech's and all that belonged to Chelaion and Maalon of the hand of Noemin.   Then Bo'az said to the elders and all the people, "You are witnesses this day that I have bought from the hand of Na'omi all that belonged to Elim'elech and all that belonged to Chil'ion and to Mahlon.
Moreover I have bought for myself for a wife Ruth the Moabitess the wife of Maalon to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance; so the name of the dead shall not be destroyed from among his brethren and from the tribe of his people: ye [are] thi   Also Ruth the Moabitess, the widow of Mahlon, I have bought to be my wife, to perpetuate the name of the dead in his inheritance, that the name of the dead may not be cut off from among his brethren and from the gate of his native place; you are witnesses this day."
καὶ οἱ πρεσβύτεροι εἴποσαν Δῴη κύριος τὴν γυναῖκά σου τὴν εἰσπορευομένην εἰς τὸν οἶκόν σου ὡς Ραχηλ καὶ ὡς Λειαν, αἳ ᾠκοδόμησαν ἀμφότεραι τὸν οἶκον Ισραηλ καὶ ἐποίησαν δύναμιν ἐν Εφραθα, καὶ ἔσται ὄνομα ἐν Βαιθλεεμ· And all the people who were in the gate said [We are] witnesses: and the elders said The Lord make thy wife who goes into thy house as Rachel and as Lia who both [together] built the house of Israel   Then all the people who were at the gate, and the elders, said, "We are witnesses. May the LORD make the woman, who is coming into your house, like Rachel and Leah, who together built up the house of Israel. May you prosper in Eph'rathah and be renowned in Bethlehem;וַיֹּאמְרוּ כָּל־הָעָם אֲשֶׁר־בַּשַּׁעַר וְהַזְּקֵנִים עֵדִים יִתֵּן יְהוָה אֶת־הָאִשָּׁה הַבָּאָה אֶל־בֵּיתֶךָ כְּרָחֵל וּכְלֵאָה אֲשֶׁר בָּנוּ שְׁתֵּיהֶם אֶת־בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל וַעֲשֵׂה־חַיִל בְּאֶפְרָתָה וּקְרָא־שֵׁם בְּבֵית לָחֶם׃ 11
And let thy house be as the house of Phares whom Thamar bore to Juda of the seed which the Lord shall give thee of this handmaid. Descendants of Boaz. Ru.4.12-22 and may your house be like the house of Perez, whom Tamar bore to Judah, because of the children that the LORD will give you by this young woman."
And Booz took Ruth and she became his wife and he went in to her; and the Lord gave her conception and she bore a son.   So Bo'az took Ruth and she became his wife; and he went in to her, and the LORD gave her conception, and she bore a son.
14 καὶ εἶπαν αἱ γυναῖκες πρὸς Νωεμιν Εὐλογητὸς κύριος, ὃς οὐ κατέλυσέ σοι σήμερον τὸν ἀγχιστέα, καὶ καλέσαι τὸ ὄνομά σου ἐν Ισραηλ, And the woman said to Noemin Blessed [is] the Lord who has not suffered a redeemer to fail thee this day even to make thy name famous in Israel.   Then the women said to Na'omi, "Blessed be the LORD, who has not left you this day without next of kin; and may his name be renowned in Israel!

And he shall be to thee a restorer of thy soul and one to cherish thy old age; for thy daughter-in-law which has loved thee who is better to thee than seven sons has born him.   He shall be to you a restorer of life and a nourisher of your old age; for your daughter-in-law who loves you, who is more to you than seven sons, has borne him."

And the neighbours gave it a name saying A son has been born to Noemin; and they called his name Obed; this [is] the father of Jessae the father of David.   And the women of the neighborhood gave him a name, saying, "A son has been born to Na'omi." They named him Obed; he was the father of Jesse, the father of David.

Notes: Format: For the canonical books the parallel passages on this page are seven columns width, reducing to four columns for the Apocrypha - Deuterocanonical books.
Printing: For the most readable option, set your printer to a Landscape setting before printing the page.
The Old Testament in Greek is Rahlf's LXX available in Word format at the Tyndale website, adapted to database format.
The alternative readings of the LXX - Judges (Alexandrinus), Daniel, Susanna & Bel (LXX received text), and Tobit (Sinaiticus [not printed in Swete]) as separate book references so that they can be viewed as an alternative text in parallel with the primary text.
(I have reversed the Swete presentation for Daniel, Susanna, Bel by listing in the later Theodotion LXX text as the main text. )
The LXX cross references to the Hebrew Bible have been extensively revised using those set out in Swete's 'Old Testament in Greek' publications between 1894 and 1909, amended in part to agree with verses as printed in the Biblia Hebraica (1937 publication).
Some verse cross references in Swete's had to be amended to agree with the BHS verse numbering, and there may well be some mismatches that I haven't yet picked up on. (If you find any errors please e-mail me.)
Hebrew Bible has been adapted from the BHS in Word format at Tyndale.
The Septuagint in English ( translated by Sir Lancelot CL Brenton) - is used here only for the books of the Hebrew Bible.
The Revised Standard Version: This generally follows the Hebrew Bible for the canonical OT,
but use this as the English Text for the remainder of the LXX (Apocrypha - Deuterocanonical books).
The katapi New Study Bible reference section: displays links to parallel passages.
Passage headings are generally as printed in the Bible Society's "Good News Bible", 1976.
