| 1 | Καὶ ἐπλημμέλησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ πλημμέλειαν μεγάλην καὶ ἐνοσφίσαντο ἀπὸ τοῦ ἀναθέματος· καὶ ἔλαβεν Αχαρ υἱὸς Χαρμι υἱοῦ Ζαμβρι υἱοῦ Ζαρα ἐκ τῆς φυλῆς Ιουδα ἀπὸ τοῦ ἀναθέματος· καὶ ἐθυμώθη ὀργῇ κύριος τοῖς υἱοῖς Ισραηλ. |
| | But the people of Israel broke faith in regard to the devoted things; for Achan the son of Carmi, son of Zabdi, son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took some of the devoted things; and the anger of the LORD burned against the people of Israel. | וַיִּמְעֲלוּ בְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵל מַעַל בַּחֵרֶם וַיִּקַּח עָכָן בֶּן־כַּרְמִי בֶן־זַבְדִּי בֶן־זֶרַח לְמַטֵּה יְהוּדָה מִן־הַחֵרֶם וַיִּחַר־אַף יְהוָה בִּבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל׃ |

| 2 | καὶ ἀπέστειλεν Ἰησοῦς ἄνδρας εἰς Γαι, ἥ ἐστιν κατὰ Βαιθηλ, λέγων Κατασκέψασθε τὴν Γαι· καὶ ἀνέβησαν οἱ ἄνδρες καὶ κατεσκέψαντο τὴν Γαι. |
| Israel defeated at Ai - the execution of Achan. Jos.7.2-26 | JOSHUA sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is near Beth-a'ven, east of Bethel, and said to them, "Go up and spy out the land." | 3 | καὶ ἀνέστρεψαν πρὸς Ἰησοῦν καὶ εἶπαν πρὸς αὐτόν Μὴ ἀναβήτω πᾶς ὁ λαός, ἀλλ' ὡς δισχίλιοι ἢ τρισχίλιοι ἄνδρες ἀναβήτωσαν καὶ ἐκπολιορκησάτωσαν τὴν πόλιν· μὴ ἀναγάγῃς ἐκεῖ τὸν λαὸν πάντα, ὀλίγοι γάρ εἰσιν. |
| | And they returned to Joshua, and said to him, "Let not all the people go up, but let about two or three thousand men go up and attack Ai; do not make the whole people toil up there, for they are but few." | וַיָּשֻׁבוּ אֶל־יְהֹושֻׁעַ וַיֹּאמְרוּ אֵלָיו אַל־יַעַל כָּל־הָעָם כְּאַלְפַּיִם אִישׁ אֹו כִּשְׁלֹשֶׁת אֲלָפִים אִישׁ יַעֲלוּ וְיַכּוּ אֶת־הָעָי אַל־תְּיַגַּע־שָׁמָּה אֶת־כָּל־הָעָם כִּי מְעַט הֵמָּה׃ |

| 4 | καὶ ἀνέβησαν ὡσεὶ τρισχίλιοι ἄνδρες καὶ ἔφυγον ἀπὸ προσώπου τῶν ἀνδρῶν Γαι. |
| | So about three thousand went up there from the people; and they fled before the men of Ai, | וַיַּעֲלוּ מִן־הָעָם שָׁמָּה כִּשְׁלֹשֶׁת אֲלָפִים אִישׁ וַיָּנֻסוּ לִפְנֵי אַנְשֵׁי הָעָי׃ |

| 5 | καὶ ἀπέκτειναν ἀπ' αὐτῶν ἄνδρες Γαι εἰς τριάκοντα καὶ ἓξ ἄνδρας καὶ κατεδίωξαν αὐτοὺς ἀπὸ τῆς πύλης καὶ συνέτριψαν αὐτοὺς ἐπὶ τοῦ καταφεροῦς· καὶ ἐπτοήθη ἡ καρδία τοῦ λαοῦ καὶ ἐγένετο ὥσπερ ὕδωρ. |
| | and the men of Ai killed about thirty-six men of them, and chased them before the gate as far as Sheb'arim, and slew them at the descent. And the hearts of the people melted, and became as water. | וַיַּכּוּ מֵהֶם אַנְשֵׁי הָעַי כִּשְׁלֹשִׁים וְשִׁשָּׁה אִישׁ וַיִּרְדְּפוּם לִפְנֵי הַשַּׁעַר עַד־הַשְּׁבָרִים וַיַּכּוּם בַּמֹּורָד וַיִּמַּס לְבַב־הָעָם וַיְהִי לְמָיִם׃ |

| 6 | καὶ διέρρηξεν Ἰησοῦς τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἔπεσεν Ἰησοῦς ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν ἐπὶ πρόσωπον ἐναντίον κυρίου ἕως ἑσπέρας, αὐτὸς καὶ οἱ πρεσβύτεροι Ισραηλ, καὶ ἐπεβάλοντο χοῦν ἐπὶ τὰς κεφαλὰς αὐτῶν. |
| | Then Joshua rent his clothes, and fell to the earth upon his face before the ark of the LORD until the evening, he and the elders of Israel; and they put dust upon their heads. | וַיִּקְרַע יְהֹושֻׁעַ שִׂמְלֹתָיו וַיִּפֹּל עַל־פָּנָיו אַרְצָה לִפְנֵי אֲרֹון יְהוָה עַד־הָעֶרֶב הוּא וְזִקְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וַיַּעֲלוּ עָפָר עַל־רֹאשָׁם׃ |

| 7 | καὶ εἶπεν Ἰησοῦς Δέομαι, κύριε, ἵνα τί διεβίβασεν ὁ παῖς σου τὸν λαὸν τοῦτον τὸν Ιορδάνην παραδοῦναι αὐτὸν τῷ Αμορραίῳ ἀπολέσαι ἡμᾶς; καὶ εἰ κατεμείναμεν καὶ κατῳκίσθημεν παρὰ τὸν Ιορδάνην. |
| | And Joshua said, "Alas, O Lord GOD, why hast thou brought this people over the Jordan at all, to give us into the hands of the Amorites, to destroy us? Would that we had been content to dwell beyond the Jordan! | וַיֹּאמֶר יְהֹושֻׁעַ אֲהָהּ אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה לָמָה הֵעֲבַרְתָּ הַעֲבִיר אֶת־הָעָם הַזֶּה אֶת־הַיַּרְדֵּן לָתֵת אֹתָנוּ בְּיַד הָאֱמֹרִי לְהַאֲבִידֵנוּ וְלוּ הֹואַלְנוּ וַנֵּשֶׁב בְּעֵבֶר הַיַּרְדֵּן׃ |

| 8 | καὶ τί ἐρῶ, ἐπεὶ μετέβαλεν Ισραηλ αὐχένα ἀπέναντι τοῦ ἐχθροῦ αὐτοῦ; |
| | O Lord, what can I say, when Israel has turned their backs before their enemies! | בִּי אֲדֹנָי מָה אֹמַר אַחֲרֵי אֲשֶׁר הָפַךְ יִשְׂרָאֵל עֹרֶף לִפְנֵי אֹיְבָיו׃ |

| 9 | καὶ ἀκούσας ὁ Χαναναῖος καὶ πάντες οἱ κατοικοῦντες τὴν γῆν περικυκλώσουσιν ἡμᾶς καὶ ἐκτρίψουσιν ἡμᾶς ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς· καὶ τί ποιήσεις τὸ ὄνομά σου τὸ μέγα; |
| | For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear of it, and will surround us, and cut off our name from the earth; and what wilt thou do for thy great name?" | וְיִשְׁמְעוּ הַכְּנַעֲנִי וְכֹל יֹשְׁבֵי הָאָרֶץ וְנָסַבּוּ עָלֵינוּ וְהִכְרִיתוּ אֶת־שְׁמֵנוּ מִן־הָאָרֶץ וּמַה־תַּעֲשֵׂה לְשִׁמְךָ הַגָּדֹול׃ ס |

| 10 | καὶ εἶπεν κύριος πρὸς Ἰησοῦν Ἀνάστηθι· ἵνα τί τοῦτο σὺ πέπτωκας ἐπὶ πρόσωπόν σου; |
| | The LORD said to Joshua, "Arise, why have you thus fallen upon your face? | וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל־יְהֹושֻׁעַ קֻם לָךְ לָמָּה זֶּה אַתָּה נֹפֵל עַל־פָּנֶיךָ׃ |

| 11 | ἡμάρτηκεν ὁ λαὸς καὶ παρέβη τὴν διαθήκην, ἣν διεθέμην πρὸς αὐτούς, καὶ κλέψαντες ἀπὸ τοῦ ἀναθέματος ἐνέβαλον εἰς τὰ σκεύη αὐτῶν. |
| | Israel has sinned; they have transgressed my covenant which I commanded them; they have taken some of the devoted things; they have stolen, and lied, and put them among their own stuff. | חָטָא יִשְׂרָאֵל וְגַם עָבְרוּ אֶת־בְּרִיתִי אֲשֶׁר צִוִּיתִי אֹותָם וְגַם לָקְחוּ מִן־הַחֵרֶם וְגַם גָּנְבוּ וְגַם כִּחֲשׁוּ וְגַם שָׂמוּ בִכְלֵיהֶם׃ |

| 12 | οὐ μὴ δύνωνται οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ ὑποστῆναι κατὰ πρόσωπον τῶν ἐχθρῶν αὐτῶν· αὐχένα ἐπιστρέψουσιν ἔναντι τῶν ἐχθρῶν αὐτῶν, ὅτι ἐγενήθησαν ἀνάθεμα· οὐ προσθήσω ἔτι εἶναι μεθ' ὑμῶν, ἐὰν μὴ ἐξάρητε τὸ ἀνάθεμα ἐξ ὑμῶν αὐτῶν. |
| | Therefore the people of Israel cannot stand before their enemies; they turn their backs before their enemies, because they have become a thing for destruction. I will be with you no more, unless you destroy the devoted things from among you. | וְלֹא יֻכְלוּ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל לָקוּם לִפְנֵי אֹיְבֵיהֶם עֹרֶף יִפְנוּ לִפְנֵי אֹיְבֵיהֶם כִּי הָיוּ לְחֵרֶם לֹא אֹוסִיף לִהְיֹות עִםָּכֶם אִם־לֹא תַשְׁמִידוּ הַחֵרֶם מִקִּרְבְּכֶם׃ |

| 13 | ἀναστὰς ἁγίασον τὸν λαὸν καὶ εἰπὸν ἁγιασθῆναι εἰς αὔριον· τάδε λέγει κύριος ὁ θεὸς Ισραηλ Τὸ ἀνάθεμα ἐν ὑμῖν ἐστιν, οὐ δυνήσεσθε ἀντιστῆναι ἀπέναντι τῶν ἐχθρῶν ὑμῶν, ἕως ἂν ἐξάρητε τὸ ἀνάθεμα ἐξ ὑμῶν. |
| | Up, sanctify the people, and say, 'Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow; for thus says the LORD, God of Israel, "There are devoted things in the midst of you, O Israel; you cannot stand before your enemies, until you take away the devoted things from among you." | קֻם קַדֵּשׁ אֶת־הָעָם וְאָמַרְתָּ הִתְקַדְּשׁוּ לְמָחָר כִּי כֹה אָמַר יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל חֵרֶם בְּקִרְבְּךָ יִשְׂרָאֵל לֹא תוּכַל לָקוּם לִפְנֵי אֹיְבֶיךָ עַד־הֲסִירְכֶם הַחֵרֶם מִקִּרְבְּכֶם׃ |

| 14 | καὶ συναχθήσεσθε πάντες τὸ πρωῒ κατὰ φυλάς, καὶ ἔσται ἡ φυλή, ἣν ἂν δείξῃ κύριος, προσάξετε κατὰ δήμους· καὶ τὸν δῆμον, ὃν ἐὰν δείξῃ κύριος, προσάξετε κατ' οἶκον· καὶ τὸν οἶκον, ὃν ἐὰν δείξῃ κύριος, προσάξετε κατ' ἄνδρα· |
| | In the morning therefore you shall be brought near by your tribes; and the tribe which the LORD takes shall come near by families; and the family which the LORD takes shall come near by households; and the household which the LORD takes shall come near man by man. | וְנִקְרַבְתֶּם בַּבֹּקֶר לְשִׁבְטֵיכֶם וְהָיָה הַשֵּׁבֶט אֲשֶׁר־יִלְכְּדֶנּוּ יְהוָה יִקְרַב לַמִּשְׁפָּחֹות וְהַמִּשְׁפָּחָה אֲשֶׁר־יִלְכְּדֶנָּה יְהוָה תִּקְרַב לַבָּתִּים וְהַבַּיִת אֲשֶׁר יִלְכְּדֶנּוּ יְהוָה יִקְרַב לַגְּבָרִים׃ |

| 15 | καὶ ὃς ἂν ἐνδειχθῇ, κατακαυθήσεται ἐν πυρὶ καὶ πάντα, ὅσα ἐστὶν αὐτῷ, ὅτι παρέβη τὴν διαθήκην κυρίου καὶ ἐποίησεν ἀνόμημα ἐν Ισραηλ. - |
| | And he who is taken with the devoted things shall be burned with fire, he and all that he has, because he has transgressed the covenant of the LORD, and because he has done a shameful thing in Israel.'" | וְהָיָה הַנִּלְכָּד בַּחֵרֶם יִשָּׂרֵף בָּאֵשׁ אֹתֹו וְאֶת־כָּל־אֲשֶׁר־לֹו כִּי עָבַר אֶת־בְּרִית יְהוָה וְכִי־עָשָׂה נְבָלָה בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל׃ |
15 |
| 16 | καὶ ὤρθρισεν Ἰησοῦς καὶ προσήγαγεν τὸν λαὸν κατὰ φυλάς, καὶ ἐνεδείχθη ἡ φυλὴ Ιουδα· |
| | So Joshua rose early in the morning, and brought Israel near tribe by tribe, and the tribe of Judah was taken; | וַיַּשְׁכֵּם יְהֹושֻׁעַ בַּבֹּקֶר וַיַּקְרֵב אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵל לִשְׁבָטָיו וַיִּלָּכֵד שֵׁבֶט יְהוּדָה׃ |

| 17 | καὶ προσήχθη κατὰ δήμους, καὶ ἐνεδείχθη δῆμος ὁ Ζαραι· καὶ προσήχθη κατὰ ἄνδρα, |
| | and he brought near the families of Judah, and the family of the Zer'ahites was taken; and he brought near the family of the Zer'ahites man by man, and Zabdi was taken; | וַיַּקְרֵב אֶת־מִשְׁפַּחַת יְהוּדָה וַיִּלְכֹּד אֵת מִשְׁפַּחַת הַזַּרְחִי וַיַּקְרֵב אֶת־מִשְׁפַּחַת הַזַּרְחִי לַגְּבָרִים וַיִּלָּכֵד זַבְדִּי׃ |
17 |
| 18 | καὶ ἐνεδείχθη Αχαρ υἱὸς Ζαμβρι υἱοῦ Ζαρα. |
| | and he brought near his household man by man, and Achan the son of Carmi, son of Zabdi, son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was taken. | וַיַּקְרֵב אֶת־בֵּיתֹו לַגְּבָרִים וַיִּלָּכֵד עָכָן בֶּן־כַּרְמִי בֶן־זַבְדִּי בֶּן־זֶרַח לְמַטֵּה יְהוּדָה׃ |

| 19 | καὶ εἶπεν Ἰησοῦς τῷ Αχαρ Δὸς δόξαν σήμερον τῷ κυρίῳ θεῷ Ισραηλ καὶ δὸς τὴν ἐξομολόγησιν καὶ ἀνάγγειλόν μοι τί ἐποίησας, καὶ μὴ κρύψῃς ἀπ' ἐμοῦ. |
| | Then Joshua said to Achan, "My son, give glory to the LORD God of Israel, and render praise to him; and tell me now what you have done; do not hide it from me." | וַיֹּאמֶר יְהֹושֻׁעַ אֶל־עָכָן בְּנִי שִׂים־נָא כָבֹוד לַיהוָה אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְתֶן־לֹו תֹודָה וְהַגֶּד־נָא לִי מֶה עָשִׂיתָ אַל־תְּכַחֵד מִמֶּנִּי׃ |

| 20 | καὶ ἀπεκρίθη Αχαρ τῷ Ἰησοῖ καὶ εἶπεν Ἀληθῶς ἥμαρτον ἐναντίον κυρίου θεοῦ Ισραηλ· οὕτως καὶ οὕτως ἐποίησα· |
| | And Achan answered Joshua, "Of a truth I have sinned against the LORD God of Israel, and this is what I did: | וַיַּעַן עָכָן אֶת־יְהֹושֻׁעַ וַיֹּאמַר אָמְנָה אָנֹכִי חָטָאתִי לַיהוָה אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְכָזֹאת וְכָזֹאת עָשִׂיתִי׃ |

| 21 | εἶδον ἐν τῇ προνομῇ ψιλὴν ποικίλην καλὴν καὶ διακόσια δίδραχμα ἀργυρίου καὶ γλῶσσαν μίαν χρυσῆν πεντήκοντα διδράχμων καὶ ἐνθυμηθεὶς αὐτῶν ἔλαβον, καὶ ἰδοὺ αὐτὰ ἐγκέκρυπται ἐν τῇ γῇ ἐν τῇ σκηνῇ μου, καὶ τὸ ἀργύριον κέκρυπται ὑποκάτω αὐτῶν. |
| | when I saw among the spoil a beautiful mantle from Shinar, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a bar of gold weighing fifty shekels, then I coveted them, and took them; and behold, they are hidden in the earth inside my tent, with the silver underneath." | [כ= וָאֶרְאֶה] [ק= וָאֵרֶא] בַשָּׁלָל אַדֶּרֶת שִׁנְעָר אַחַת טֹובָה וּמָאתַיִם שְׁקָלִים כֶּסֶף וּלְשֹׁון זָהָב אֶחָד חֲמִשִּׁים שְׁקָלִים מִשְׁקָלֹו וָאֶחְמְדֵם וָאֶקָּחֵם וְהִנָּם טְמוּנִים בָּאָרֶץ בְּתֹוךְ הָאָהֳלִי וְהַכֶּסֶף תַּחְתֶּיהָ׃ |

| 22 | καὶ ἀπέστειλεν Ἰησοῦς ἀγγέλους, καὶ ἔδραμον εἰς τὴν σκηνὴν εἰς τὴν παρεμβολήν· καὶ ταῦτα ἦν ἐγκεκρυμμένα εἰς τὴν σκηνήν, καὶ τὸ ἀργύριον ὑποκάτω αὐτῶν. |
| | So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran to the tent; and behold, it was hidden in his tent with the silver underneath. | וַיִּשְׁלַח יְהֹושֻׁעַ מַלְאָכִים וַיָּרֻצוּ הָאֹהֱלָה וְהִנֵּה טְמוּנָה בְּאָהֳלֹו וְהַכֶּסֶף תַּחְתֶּיהָ׃ |

| 23 | καὶ ἐξήνεγκαν αὐτὰ ἐκ τῆς σκηνῆς καὶ ἤνεγκαν πρὸς Ἰησοῦν καὶ τοὺς πρεσβυτέρους Ισραηλ, καὶ ἔθηκαν αὐτὰ ἔναντι κυρίου. |
| | And they took them out of the tent and brought them to Joshua and all the people of Israel; and they laid them down before the LORD. | וַיִּקָּחוּם מִתֹּוךְ הָאֹהֶל וַיְבִאוּם אֶל־יְהֹושֻׁעַ וְאֶל כָּל־בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וַיַּצִּקֻם לִפְנֵי יְהוָה׃ |

| 24 | καὶ ἔλαβεν Ἰησοῦς τὸν Αχαρ υἱὸν Ζαρα καὶ ἀνήγαγεν αὐτὸν εἰς φάραγγα Αχωρ καὶ τοὺς υἱοὺς αὐτοῦ καὶ τὰς θυγατέρας αὐτοῦ καὶ τοὺς μόσχους αὐτοῦ καὶ τὰ ὑποζύγια αὐτοῦ καὶ πάντα τὰ πρόβατα αὐτοῦ καὶ τὴν σκηνὴν αὐτοῦ καὶ πάντα τὰ ὑπάρχοντα αὐτοῦ, καὶ πᾶς ὁ λαὸς μετ' αὐτοῦ· καὶ ἀνήγαγεν αὐτοὺς εἰς Εμεκαχωρ. |
| | And Joshua and all Israel with him took Achan the son of Zerah, and the silver and the mantle and the bar of gold, and his sons and daughters, and his oxen and asses and sheep, and his tent, and all that he had; and they brought them up to the Valley of Achor. | וַיִּקַּח יְהֹושֻׁעַ אֶת־עָכָן בֶּן־זֶרַח וְאֶת־הַכֶּסֶף וְאֶת־הָאַדֶּרֶת וְאֶת־לְשֹׁון הַזָּהָב וְאֶת־בָּנָיו וְאֶת־בְּנֹתָיו וְאֶת־שֹׁורֹו וְאֶת־חֲמֹרֹו וְאֶת־צֹאנֹו וְאֶת־אָהֳלֹו וְאֶת־כָּל־אֲשֶׁר־לֹו וְכָל־יִשְׂרָאֵל עִמֹּו וַיַּעֲלוּ אֹתָם עֵמֶק עָכֹור׃ |

| 25 | καὶ εἶπεν Ἰησοῦς τῷ Αχαρ Τί ὠλέθρευσας ἡμᾶς; ἐξολεθρεύσαι σε κύριος καθὰ καὶ σήμερον. καὶ ἐλιθοβόλησαν αὐτὸν λίθοις πᾶς Ισραηλ. |
| | And Joshua said, "Why did you bring trouble on us? The LORD brings trouble on you today." And all Israel stoned him with stones; they burned them with fire, and stoned them with stones. | וַיֹּאמֶר יְהֹושֻׁעַ מֶה עֲכַרְתָּנוּ יַעְכֳּרְךָ יְהוָה בַּיֹּום הַזֶּה וַיִּרְגְּמוּ אֹתֹו כָל־יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶבֶן וַיִּשְׂרְפוּ אֹתָם בָּאֵשׁ וַיִּסְקְלוּ אֹתָם בָּאֲבָנִים׃ |

| 26 | καὶ ἐπέστησαν αὐτῷ σωρὸν λίθων μέγαν. καὶ ἐπαύσατο κύριος τοῦ θυμοῦ τῆς ὀργῆς. διὰ τοῦτο ἐπωνόμασεν αὐτὸ Εμεκαχωρ ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ταύτης. |
| | And they raised over him a great heap of stones that remains to this day; then the LORD turned from his burning anger. Therefore to this day the name of that place is called the Valley of Achor. | וַיָּקִימוּ עָלָיו גַּל־אֲבָנִים גָּדֹול עַד הַיֹּום הַזֶּה וַיָּשָׁב יְהוָה מֵחֲרֹון אַפֹּו עַל־כֵּן קָרָא שֵׁם הַמָּקֹום הַהוּא עֵמֶק עָכֹור עַד הַיֹּום הַזֶּה׃ ף |
