Ἑν τῷ δευτέρῳ ἔτει ἐπὶ Δαρείου τοῦ βασιλέως ἐν τῷ μηνὶ τῷ ἕκτῳ μιᾷ τοῦ μηνὸς ἐγένετο λόγος κύριου ἐν χειρὶ Αγγαιου τοῦ προφήτου λέγων Εἰπὸν δὴ πρὸς Ζοροβαβελ τὸν τοῦ Σαλαθιηλ ἐκ φυλῆς Ιουδα καὶ πρὸς Ἰησοῦν τὸν τοῦ Ιωσεδεκ τὸν ἱερέα τὸν μέγαν λέγων |
In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, on the firs [day] of the month, the word of the Lord came by the hand of the prophet Aggaeus, saying, Speak to Zorobabel the son of Salathiel, of the tribe of Juda, and to Jesus the son of Josedec, the high priest, saying, |

In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, on the first day of the month, the word of the LORD came by Haggai the prophet to Zerub'babel the son of She-al'ti-el, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehoz'adak, the high priest, | בִּשְׁנַת שְׁתַּיִם לְדָרְיָוֶשׁ הַמֶּלֶךְ בַּחֹדֶשׁ הַשִּׁשִּׁי בְּיֹום אֶחָד לַחֹדֶשׁ הָיָה דְבַר־יְהוָה בְּיַד־חַגַּי הַנָּבִיא אֶל־זְרֻבָּבֶל בֶּן־שְׁאַלְתִּיאֵל פַּחַת יְהוּדָה וְאֶל־יְהֹושֻׁעַ בֶּן־יְהֹוצָדָק הַכֹּהֵן הַגָּדֹול לֵאמֹר׃ |

Τάδε λέγει κύριος παντοκράτωρ λέγων Ὁ λαὸς οὗτος λέγουσιν Οὐχ ἥκει ὁ καιρὸς τοῦ οἰκοδομῆσαι τὸν οἶκον κυρίου. |
Thus saith the Lord Almighty, saying, This people say, The time is not come to build the house of the Lord. |

"Thus says the LORD of hosts: This people say the time has not yet come to rebuild the house of the LORD." | כֹּה אָמַר יְהוָה צְבָאֹות לֵאמֹר הָעָם הַזֶּה אָמְרוּ לֹא עֶת־בֹּא עֶת־בֵּית יְהוָה לְהִבָּנֹות׃ ף |

καὶ ἐγένετο λόγος κυρίου ἐν χειρὶ Αγγαιου τοῦ προφήτου λέγων |
And the word of the Lord came by the hand of the prophet Aggaeus, saying, |

Then the word of the LORD came by Haggai the prophet, | וַיְהִי דְּבַר־יְהוָה בְּיַד־חַגַּי הַנָּבִיא לֵאמֹר׃ |

Εἰ καιρὸς ὑμῖν μέν ἐστιν τοῦ οἰκεῖν ἐν οἴκοις ὑμῶν κοιλοστάθμοις, ὁ δὲ οἶκος οὗτος ἐξηρήμωται; |
Is it time for you to dwell in your ceiled houses, whereas our house is desolate? |

"Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, while this house lies in ruins? | הַעֵת לָכֶם אַתֶּם לָשֶׁבֶת בְּבָתֵּיכֶם סְפוּנִים וְהַבַּיִת הַזֶּה חָרֵב׃ |

καὶ νῦν τάδε λέγει κύριος παντοκράτωρ Τάξατε δὴ τὰς καρδίας ὑμῶν εἰς τὰς ὁδοὺς ὑμῶν· |
And now thus saith the Lord Almighty; Consider your ways, I pray you. |

Now therefore thus says the LORD of hosts: Consider how you have fared. | וְעַתָּה כֹּה אָמַר יְהוָה צְבָאֹות שִׂימוּ לְבַבְכֶם עַל־דַּרְכֵיכֶם׃ |

ἐσπείρατε πολλὰ καὶ εἰσηνέγκατε ὀλίγα, ἐφάγετε καὶ οὐκ εἰς πλησμονήν, ἐπίετε καὶ οὐκ εἰς μέθην, περιεβάλεσθε καὶ οὐκ ἐθερμάνθητε ἐν αὐτοῖς, καὶ ὁ τοὺς μισθοὺς συνάγων συνήγαγεν εἰς δεσμὸν τετρυπημένον. |
Ye have sown much, but brought in little; ye have eaten, and are not satisfied; ye have drunk, and are not satisfied with drink, ye have clothed yourselves, and have not become warm thereby: and he that earns wages has gathered [them] into a bag full of holes. |

You have sown much, and harvested little; you eat, but you never have enough; you drink, but you never have your fill; you clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; and he who earns wages earns wages to put them into a bag with holes. | זְרַעְתֶּם הַרְבֵּה וְהָבֵא מְעָט אָכֹול וְאֵין־לְשָׂבְעָה שָׁתֹו וְאֵין־לְשָׁכְרָה לָבֹושׁ וְאֵין־לְחֹם לֹו וְהַמִּשְׂתַּכֵּר מִשְׂתַּכֵּר אֶל־צְרֹור נָקוּב׃ ף |

τάδε λέγει κύριος παντοκράτωρ Θέσθε τὰς καρδίας ὑμῶν εἰς τὰς ὁδοὺς ὑμῶν· |
Thus saith the Lord Almighty; Consider your ways. |

"Thus says the LORD of hosts: Consider how you have fared. | כֹּה אָמַר יְהוָה צְבָאֹות שִׂימוּ לְבַבְכֶם עַל־דַּרְכֵיכֶם׃ |

ἀνάβητε ἐπὶ τὸ ὄρος καὶ κόψατε ξύλα καὶ οἰκοδομήσατε τὸν οἶκον, καὶ εὐδοκήσω ἐν αὐτῷ καὶ ἐνδοξασθήσομαι, εἶπεν κύριος. |
Go up to the mountain, and cut timber; build the house, and I will take pleasure in it, and be glorified, saith the Lord. |

Go up to the hills and bring wood and build the house, that I may take pleasure in it and that I may appear in my glory, says the LORD. | עֲלוּ הָהָר וַהֲבֵאתֶם עֵץ וּבְנוּ הַבָּיִת וְאֶרְצֶה־בֹּו [כ= וְאֶכָּבֵד] [ק= וְאֶכָּבְדָה] אָמַר יְהוָה׃ |

ἐπεβλέψατε εἰς πολλά, καὶ ἐγένετο ὀλίγα· καὶ εἰσηνέχθη εἰς τὸν οἶκον, καὶ ἐξεφύσησα αὐτά. διὰ τοῦτο τάδε λέγει κύριος παντοκράτωρ Ἀνθ ὧν ὁ οἶκός μού ἐστιν ἔρημος, ὑμεῖς δὲ διώκετε ἕκαστος εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ, |
Ye looked for much, and there came little; and it was brought into the house, and I blew it away. Therefore thus saith the Lord Almighty, Because my house is desolate, and ye run everyone into his own house; |

You have looked for much, and, lo, it came to little; and when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why? says the LORD of hosts. Because of my house that lies in ruins, while you busy yourselves each with his own house. | פָּנֹה אֶל־הַרְבֵּה וְהִנֵּה לִמְעָט וַהֲבֵאתֶם הַבַּיִת וְנָפַחְתִּי בֹו יַעַן מֶה נְאֻם יְהוָה צְבָאֹות יַעַן בֵּיתִי אֲשֶׁר־הוּא חָרֵב וְאַתֶּם רָצִים אִישׁ לְבֵיתֹו׃ |

διὰ τοῦτο ἀνέξει ὁ οὐρανὸς ἀπὸ δρόσου, καὶ ἡ γῆ ὑποστελεῖται τὰ ἐκφόρια αὐτῆς· |
therefore shall the sky withhold dew, and the earth shall keep back her produce. |

Therefore the heavens above you have withheld the dew, and the earth has withheld its produce. | עַל־כֵּן עֲלֵיכֶם כָּלְאוּ שָׁמַיִם מִטָּל וְהָאָרֶץ כָּלְאָה יְבוּלָהּ׃ |

καὶ ἐπάξω ῥομφαίαν ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν καὶ ἐπὶ τὰ ὄρη καὶ ἐπὶ τὸν σῖτον καὶ ἐπὶ τὸν οἶνον καὶ ἐπὶ τὸ ἔλαιον καὶ ὅσα ἐκφέρει ἡ γῆ καὶ ἐπὶ τοὺς ἀνθρώπους καὶ ἐπὶ τὰ κτήνη καὶ ἐπὶ πάντας τοὺς πόνους τῶν χειρῶν αὐτῶν. - |
And I will bring a sword upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the wine, and upon the oil, and all that the earth produces, and upon the men, and upon the cattle, and upon all the labours of their hands. |

And I have called for a drought upon the land and the hills, upon the grain, the new wine, the oil, upon what the ground brings forth, upon men and cattle, and upon all their labours." | וָאֶקְרָא חֹרֶב עַל־הָאָרֶץ וְעַל־הֶהָרִים וְעַל־הַדָּגָן וְעַל־הַתִּירֹושׁ וְעַל־הַיִּצְהָר וְעַל אֲשֶׁר תֹּוצִיא הָאֲדָמָה וְעַל־הָאָדָם וְעַל־הַבְּהֵמָה וְעַל כָּל־יְגִיעַ כַּפָּיִם׃ ס |

καὶ ἤκουσεν Ζοροβαβελ ὁ τοῦ Σαλαθιηλ ἐκ φυλῆς Ιουδα καὶ Ἰησοῦς ὁ τοῦ Ιωσεδεκ ὁ ἱερεὺς ὁ μέγας καὶ πάντες οἱ κατάλοιποι τοῦ λαοῦ τῆς φωνῆς κυρίου τοῦ θεοῦ αὐτῶν καὶ τῶν λόγων Αγγαιου τοῦ προφήτου, καθότι ἐξαπέστειλεν αὐτὸν κύριος ὁ θεὸς αὐτῶν πρὸς αὐτούς, καὶ ἐφοβήθη ὁ λαὸς ἀπὸ προσώπου κυρίου. |
And Zorobabel the son of Salathiel, of the tribe of Juda, and Jesus the son of Josedec, the high priest, and all the remnant of the people, hearkened to the voice of the Lord their God, and the words of the prophet Aggaeus, according as the Lord their God had sent him to them, and the people feared before the Lord. |
The people obey the LORD's command. Hg.1.12-15 |
Then Zerub'babel the son of She-al'ti-el, and Joshua the son of Jehoz'adak, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the LORD their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the LORD their God had sent him; and the people feared before the LORD. | וַיִּשְׁמַע זְרֻבָּבֶל בֶּן־שַׁלְתִּיאֵל וִיהֹושֻׁעַ בֶּן־יְהֹוצָדָק הַכֹּהֵן הַגָּדֹול וְכֹל שְׁאֵרִית הָעָם בְּקֹול יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיהֶם וְעַל־דִּבְרֵי חַגַּי הַנָּבִיא כַּאֲשֶׁר שְׁלָחֹו יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיהֶם וַיִּירְאוּ הָעָם מִפְּנֵי יְהוָה׃ |

καὶ εἶπεν Αγγαιος ὁ ἄγγελος κυρίου τῷ λαῷ Ἑγώ εἰμι μεθ' ὑμῶν, λέγει κύριος. |
And Aggaeus the Lord's messenger spoke among the messengers of the Lord to the people, [saying], I am with you, saith the Lord. |

Then Haggai, the messenger of the LORD, spoke to the people with the LORD's message, "I am with you, says the LORD." | וַיֹּאמֶר חַגַּי מַלְאַךְ יְהוָה בְּמַלְאֲכוּת יְהוָה לָעָם לֵאמֹר אֲנִי אִתְּכֶם נְאֻם־יְהוָה׃ |

καὶ ἐξήγειρεν κύριος τὸ πνεῦμα Ζοροβαβελ τοῦ Σαλαθιηλ ἐκ φυλῆς Ιουδα καὶ τὸ πνεῦμα Ἰησοῦ τοῦ Ιωσεδεκ τοῦ ἱερέως τοῦ μεγάλου καὶ τὸ πνεῦμα τῶν καταλοίπων παντὸς τοῦ λαοῦ, καὶ εἰσῆλθον καὶ ἐποίουν ἔργα ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ κυρίου παντοκράτορος θεοῦ αὐτῶν |
And the Lord stirred up the spirit of Zorobabel the son of Salathiel, of the tribe of Juda, and the spirit of Jesus the son of Josedec, the high priest, and the spirit of the remnant of all the people; and they went in, and wrought in the house of the Lord Almighty their God, |

And the LORD stirred up the spirit of Zerub'babel the son of She-al'ti-el, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Jehoz'adak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and worked on the house of the LORD of hosts, their God, | וַיָּעַר יְהוָה אֶת־רוּחַ זְרֻבָּבֶל בֶּן־שַׁלְתִּיאֵל פַּחַת יְהוּדָה וְאֶת־רוּחַ יְהֹושֻׁעַ בֶּן־יְהֹוצָדָק הַכֹּהֵן הַגָּדֹול וְאֶת־רוּחַ כֹּל שְׁאֵרִית הָעָם וַיָּבֹאוּ וַיַּעֲשׂוּ מְלָאכָה בְּבֵית־יְהוָה צְבָאֹות אֱלֹהֵיהֶם׃ ף |
