Καὶ ἐγένετο τῷ μηνὶ τῷ ἑβδόμῳ ἦλθεν Ισμαηλ υἱὸς Ναθανιου υἱοῦ Ελασα ἀπὸ γένους τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ δέκα ἄνδρες μετ' αὐτοῦ πρὸς Γοδολιαν εἰς Μασσηφα, καὶ ἔφαγον ἐκεῖ ἄρτον ἅμα. |
Now it came to pass in the seventh month that Ismael the son of Nathanias the son of Eleasa of the seed royal came and ten men with him to Godolias to Massepha: and they ate bread there together. |

In the seventh month, Ish'mael the son of Nethani'ah, son of Eli'shama, of the royal family, one of the chief officers of the king, came with ten men to Gedali'ah the son of Ahi'kam, at Mizpah. As they ate bread together there at Mizpah, | וַיְהִי בַּחֹדֶשׁ הַשְּׁבִיעִי בָּא יִשְׁמָעֵאל בֶּן־נְתַנְיָה בֶן־אֱלִישָׁמָע מִזֶּרַע הַמְּלוּכָה וְרַבֵּי הַמֶּלֶךְ וַעֲשָׂרָה אֲנָשִׁים אִתֹּו אֶל־גְּדַלְיָהוּ בֶן־אֲחִיקָם הַמִּצְפָּתָה וַיֹּאכְלוּ שָׁם לֶחֶם יַחְדָּו בַּמִּצְפָּה׃ |

καὶ ἀνέστη Ισμαηλ καὶ οἱ δέκα ἄνδρες, οἳ ἦσαν μετ' αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐπάταξαν τὸν Γοδολιαν, ὃν κατέστησεν βασιλεὺς Βαβυλῶνος ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς, |
And Ismael rose up and the ten men that were with him and smote Godolias whom the king of Babylon had appointed [governor] over the land |

Ish'mael the son of Nethani'ah and the ten men with him rose up and struck down Gedali'ah the son of Ahi'kam, son of Shaphan, with the sword, and killed him, whom the king of Babylon had appointed governor in the land. | וַיָּקָם יִשְׁמָעֵאל בֶּן־נְתַנְיָה וַעֲשֶׂרֶת הָאֲנָשִׁים אֲשֶׁר־הָיוּ אִתֹּו וַיַּכּוּ אֶת־גְּדַלְיָהוּ בֶן־אֲחִיקָם בֶּן־שָׁפָן בַּחֶרֶב וַיָּמֶת אֹתֹו אֲשֶׁר־הִפְקִיד מֶלֶךְ־בָּבֶל בָּאָרֶץ׃ |

καὶ πάντας τοὺς Ιουδαίους τοὺς ὄντας μετ' αὐτοῦ ἐν Μασσηφα καὶ πάντας τοὺς Χαλδαίους τοὺς εὑρεθέντας ἐκεῖ. - |
and all the Jews that were with him in Massepha and all the Chaldeans that were found there. |

Ish'mael also slew all the Jews who were with Gedali'ah at Mizpah, and the Chalde'an soldiers who happened to be there. | וְאֵת כָּל־הַיְּהוּדִים אֲשֶׁר־הָיוּ אִתֹּו אֶת־גְּדַלְיָהוּ בַּמִּצְפָּה וְאֶת־הַכַּשְׂדִּים אֲשֶׁר נִמְצְאוּ־שָׁם אֵת אַנְשֵׁי הַמִּלְחָמָה הִכָּה יִשְׁמָעֵאל׃ |

καὶ ἐγένετο τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ δευτέρᾳ πατάξαντος αὐτοῦ τὸν Γοδολιαν, καὶ ἄνθρωπος οὐκ ἔγνω, |
And it came to pass on the second day after he had smitten Godolias and no man knew [of it] |

On the day after the murder of Gedali'ah, before any one knew of it, | וַיְהִי בַּיֹּום הַשֵּׁנִי לְהָמִית אֶת־גְּדַלְיָהוּ וְאִישׁ לֹא יָדָע׃ |

καὶ ἤλθοσαν ἄνδρες ἀπὸ Συχεμ καὶ ἀπὸ Σαλημ καὶ ἀπὸ Σαμαρείας, ὀγδοήκοντα ἄνδρες, ἐξυρημένοι πώγωνας καὶ διερρηγμένοι τὰ ἱμάτια καὶ κοπτόμενοι, καὶ μαναα καὶ λίβανος ἐν χερσὶν αὐτῶν τοῦ εἰσενεγκεῖν εἰς οἶκον κυρίου. |
that there came men from Sychem and from Salem and from Samaria [even] eighty men having their beards shaven |

eighty men arrived from Shechem and Shiloh and Sama'ria, with their beards shaved and their clothes torn, and their bodies gashed, bringing cereal offerings and incense to present at the temple of the LORD. | וַיָּבֹאוּ אֲנָשִׁים מִשְּׁכֶם מִשִּׁלֹו וּמִשֹּׁמְרֹון שְׁמֹנִים אִישׁ מְגֻלְּחֵי זָקָן וּקְרֻעֵי בְגָדִים וּמִתְגֹּדְדִים וּמִנְחָה וּלְבֹונָה בְּיָדָם לְהָבִיא בֵּית יְהוָה׃ |

καὶ ἐξῆλθεν εἰς ἀπάντησιν αὐτοῖς Ισμαηλ· αὐτοὶ ἐπορεύοντο καὶ ἔκλαιον, καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Εἰσέλθετε πρὸς Γοδολιαν. |
And Ismael went out to meet them; [and] they went on and wept: and he said to them Come in to Godolias. |

And Ish'mael the son of Nethani'ah came out from Mizpah to meet them, weeping as he came. As he met them, he said to them, "Come in to Gedali'ah the son of Ahi'kam." | וַיֵּצֵא יִשְׁמָעֵאל בֶּן־נְתַנְיָה לִקְרָאתָם מִן־הַמִּצְפָּה הֹלֵךְ הָלֹךְ וּבֹכֶה וַיְהִי כִּפְגֹשׁ אֹתָם וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵיהֶם בֹּאוּ אֶל־גְּדַלְיָהוּ בֶן־אֲחִיקָם׃ ס |

καὶ ἐγένετο εἰσελθόντων αὐτῶν εἰς τὸ μέσον τῆς πόλεως ἔσφαξεν αὐτοὺς εἰς τὸ φρέαρ. |
And it came to pass when they had entered into the midst of the city [that] he slew them [and cast them] into a pit. |

When they came into the city, Ish'mael the son of Nethani'ah and the men with him slew them, and cast them into a cistern. | וַיְהִי כְּבֹואָם אֶל־תֹּוךְ הָעִיר וַיִּשְׁחָטֵם יִשְׁמָעֵאל בֶּן־נְתַנְיָה אֶל־תֹּוךְ הַבֹּור הוּא וְהָאֲנָשִׁים אֲשֶׁר־אִתֹּו׃ |

καὶ δέκα ἄνδρες εὑρέθησαν ἐκεῖ καὶ εἶπαν τῷ Ισμαηλ Μὴ ἀνέλῃς ἡμᾶς, ὅτι εἰσὶν ἡμῖν θησαυροὶ ἐν ἀγρῷ, πυροὶ καὶ κριθαί, μέλι καὶ ἔλαιον· καὶ παρῆλθεν καὶ οὐκ ἀνεῖλεν αὐτοὺς ἐν μέσῳ τῶν ἀδελφῶν αὐτῶν. |
But ten men were found there and they said to Ismael Slay us not: for we have treasures in the field wheat and barley honey and oil. So he passed by |

But there were ten men among them who said to Ish'mael, "Do not kill us, for we have stores of wheat, barley, oil, and honey hidden in the fields." So he refrained and did not kill them with their companions. | וַעֲשָׂרָה אֲנָשִׁים נִמְצְאוּ־בָם וַיֹּאמְרוּ אֶל־יִשְׁמָעֵאל אַל־תְּמִתֵנוּ כִּי־יֶשׁ־לָנוּ מַטְמֹנִים בַּשָּׂדֶה חִטִּים וּשְׂעֹרִים וְשֶׁמֶן וּדְבָשׁ וַיֶּחְדַּל וְלֹא הֱמִיתָם בְּתֹוךְ אֲחֵיהֶם׃ |

καὶ τὸ φρέαρ, εἰς ὃ ἔρριψεν ἐκεῖ Ισμαηλ πάντας οὓς ἐπάταξεν, φρέαρ μέγα τοῦτό ἐστιν ὃ ἐποίησεν ὁ βασιλεὺς Ασα ἀπὸ προσώπου Βαασα βασιλέως Ισραηλ· τοῦτο ἐνέπλησεν Ισμαηλ τραυματιῶν. |
Now the pit into which Ismael cast all whom he smote is the great pit which king Asa had made for fear of Baasa king of Israel: [even] this Ismael filled with slain men. |

Now the cistern into which Ish'mael cast all the bodies of the men whom he had slain was the large cistern which King Asa had made for defense against Ba'asha king of Israel; Ish'mael the son of Nethani'ah filled it with the slain. | וְהַבֹּור אֲשֶׁר הִשְׁלִיךְ שָׁם יִשְׁמָעֵאל אֵת כָּל־פִּגְרֵי הָאֲנָשִׁים אֲשֶׁר הִכָּה בְּיַד־גְּדַלְיָהוּ הוּא אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה הַמֶּלֶךְ אָסָא מִפְּנֵי בַּעְשָׁא מֶלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵל אֹתֹו מִלֵּא יִשְׁמָעֵאל בֶּן־נְתַנְיָהוּ חֲלָלִים׃ |

καὶ ἀπέστρεψεν Ισμαηλ πάντα τὸν λαὸν τὸν καταλειφθέντα εἰς Μασσηφα καὶ τὰς θυγατέρας τοῦ βασιλέως, ἃς παρεκατέθετο ὁ ἀρχιμάγειρος τῷ Γοδολια υἱῷ Αχικαμ, καὶ ᾤχετο εἰς τὸ πέραν υἱῶν Αμμων. - |
And Ismael brought back all the people that were left in Massepha and the king's daughter whom the captain of the guard had committed in charge to Godolias the son of Achicam: and he went away beyond the children of Ammon. |

Then Ish'mael took captive all the rest of the people who were in Mizpah, the king's daughters and all the people who were left at Mizpah, whom Nebu'zarad'an, the captain of the guard, had committed to Gedali'ah the son of Ahi'kam. Ish'mael the son of Nethani'ah took them captive and set out to cross over to the Ammonites. | וַיִּשְׁבְּ יִשְׁמָעֵאל אֶת־כָּל־שְׁאֵרִית הָעָם אֲשֶׁר בַּמִּצְפָּה אֶת־בְּנֹות הַמֶּלֶךְ וְאֶת־כָּל־הָעָם הַנִּשְׁאָרִים בַּמִּצְפָּה אֲשֶׁר הִפְקִיד נְבוּזַרְאֲדָן רַב־טַבָּחִים אֶת־גְּדַלְיָהוּ בֶּן־אֲחִיקָם וַיִּשְׁבֵּם יִשְׁמָעֵאל בֶּן־נְתַנְיָה וַיֵּלֶךְ לַעֲבֹר אֶל־בְּנֵי עַמֹּון׃ ס |

καὶ ἤκουσεν Ιωαναν υἱὸς Καρηε καὶ πάντες οἱ ἡγεμόνες τῆς δυνάμεως οἱ μετ' αὐτοῦ πάντα τὰ κακά, ἃ ἐποίησεν Ισμαηλ, |
And Joanan the son of Caree and all the leaders of the host that were with him heard of all the evil deeds which Ismael had done. |

But when Joha'nan the son of Kare'ah and all the leaders of the forces with him heard of all the evil which Ish'mael the son of Nethani'ah had done, | וַיִּשְׁמַע יֹוחָןָן בֶּן־קָרֵחַ וְכָל־שָׂרֵי הַחֲיָלִים אֲשֶׁר אִתֹּו אֵת כָּל־הָרָעָה אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה יִשְׁמָעֵאל בֶּן־נְתַנְיָה׃ |

καὶ ἤγαγον ἅπαν τὸ στρατόπεδον αὐτῶν καὶ ᾤχοντο πολεμεῖν αὐτὸν καὶ εὗρον αὐτὸν ἐπὶ ὕδατος πολλοῦ ἐν Γαβαων. |
And they brought all their army and went to fight against him and found him near much water in Gabaon. |

they took all their men and went to fight against Ish'mael the son of Nethani'ah. They came upon him at the great pool which is in Gibeon. | וַיִּקְחוּ אֶת־כָּל־הָאֲנָשִׁים וַיֵּלְכוּ לְהִלָּחֵם עִם־יִשְׁמָעֵאל בֶּן־נְתַנְיָה וַיִּמְצְאוּ אֹתֹו אֶל־מַיִם רַבִּים אֲשֶׁר בְּגִבְעֹון׃ |

| 13 |
καὶ ἐγένετο ὅτε εἶδον πᾶς ὁ λαὸς ὁ μετὰ Ισμαηλ τὸν Ιωαναν καὶ τοὺς ἡγεμόνας τῆς δυνάμεως τῆς μετ' αὐτοῦ, |
And it came to pass when all the people that was with Ismael saw Joanan and the leaders of the host that was with him |

And when all the people who were with Ish'mael saw Joha'nan the son of Kare'ah and all the leaders of the forces with him, they rejoiced. | וַיְהִי כִּרְאֹות כָּל־הָעָם אֲשֶׁר אֶת־יִשְׁמָעֵאל אֶת־יֹוחָןָן בֶּן־קָרֵחַ וְאֵת כָּל־שָׂרֵי הַחֲיָלִים אֲשֶׁר אִתֹּו וַיִּשְׂמָחוּ׃ |

| 14 |
καὶ ἀνέστρεψαν πρὸς Ιωαναν. |
that they returned to Joanan. |

So all the people whom Ish'mael had carried away captive from Mizpah turned about and came back, and went to Joha'nan the son of Kare'ah. | וַיָּסֹבּוּ כָּל־הָעָם אֲשֶׁר־שָׁבָה יִשְׁמָעֵאל מִן־הַמִּצְפָּה וַיָּשֻׁבוּ וַיֵּלְכוּ אֶל־יֹוחָןָן בֶּן־קָרֵחַ׃ |
14 |
| 15 |
καὶ Ισμαηλ ἐσώθη σὺν ὀκτὼ ἀνθρώποις καὶ ᾤχετο πρὸς τοὺς υἱοὺς Αμμων. - |
But Ismael escaped with eight men and went to the children of Ammon. |

But Ish'mael the son of Nethani'ah escaped from Joha'nan with eight men, and went to the Ammonites. | וְיִשְׁמָעֵאל בֶּן־נְתַנְיָה נִמְלַט בִּשְׁמֹנָה אֲנָשִׁים מִפְּנֵי יֹוחָןָן וַיֵּלֶךְ אֶל־בְּנֵי עַמֹּון׃ ס |

καὶ ἔλαβεν Ιωαναν καὶ πάντες οἱ ἡγεμόνες τῆς δυνάμεως οἱ μετ' αὐτοῦ πάντας τοὺς καταλοίπους τοῦ λαοῦ, οὕς ἀπέστρεψεν ἀπὸ Ισμαηλ, δυνατοὺς ἄνδρας ἐν πολέμῳ καὶ τὰς γυναῖκας καὶ τὰ λοιπὰ καὶ τοὺς εὐνούχους, οὓς ἀπέστρεψεν ἀπὸ Γαβαων, |
And Joanan and all the leaders of the host that were with him took all the remnant of the people whom he [had] brought back from Ismael mighty men in war |

Then Joha'nan the son of Kare'ah and all the leaders of the forces with him took all the rest of the people whom Ish'mael the son of Nethani'ah had carried away captive from Mizpah after he had slain Gedali'ah the son of Ahi'kam - soldiers, women, children, and eunuchs, whom Joha'nan brought back from Gibeon. | וַיִּקַּח יֹוחָןָן בֶּן־קָרֵחַ וְכָל־שָׂרֵי הַחֲיָלִים אֲשֶׁר־אִתֹּו אֵת כָּל־שְׁאֵרִית הָעָם אֲשֶׁר הֵשִׁיב מֵאֵת יִשְׁמָעֵאל בֶּן־נְתַנְיָה מִן־הַמִּצְפָּה אַחַר הִכָּה אֶת־גְּדַלְיָה בֶּן־אֲחִיקָם גְּבָרִים אַנְשֵׁי הַמִּלְחָמָה וְנָשִׁים וְטַף וְסָרִסִים אֲשֶׁר הֵשִׁיב מִגִּבְעֹון׃ |

καὶ ᾤχοντο καὶ ἐκάθισαν ἐν Γαβηρωθ - χαμααμ τὴν πρὸς Βηθλεεμ τοῦ πορευθῆναι εἰσελθεῖν εἰς Αἴγυπτον |
and they departed and dwelt in Gaberoch-amaa that is by Bethleem to go into Egypt for fear of the Chaldeans: |

And they went and stayed at Geruth Chimham near Bethlehem, intending to go to Egypt | וַיֵּלְכוּ וַיֵּשְׁבוּ בְּגֵרוּת [כ= כְמֹוהֶם] [ק= כִּמְהָם] אֲשֶׁר־אֵצֶל בֵּית לָחֶם לָלֶכֶת לָבֹוא מִצְרָיִם׃ |

ἀπὸ προσώπου τῶν Χαλδαίων, ὅτι ἐφοβήθησαν ἀπὸ προσώπου αὐτῶν, ὅτι ἐπάταξεν Ισμαηλ τὸν Γοδολιαν, ὃν κατέστησεν βασιλεὺς Βαβυλῶνος ἐν τῇ γῇ. |
for they were afraid of them because Ismael had smitten Godolias whom the king of Babylon made [governor] in the land. |

because of the Chalde'ans; for they were afraid of them, because Ish'mael the son of Nethani'ah had slain Gedali'ah the son of Ahi'kam, whom the king of Babylon had made governor over the land. | מִפְּנֵי הַכַּשְׂדִּים כִּי יָרְאוּ מִפְּנֵיהֶם כִּי־הִכָּה יִשְׁמָעֵאל בֶּן־נְתַנְיָה אֶת־גְּדַלְיָהוּ בֶּן־אֲחִיקָם אֲשֶׁר־הִפְקִיד מֶלֶךְ־בָּבֶל בָּאָרֶץ׃ ס |
