Ὁ λόγος ὁ γενόμενος παρὰ κυρίου πρὸς Ιερεμιαν ὕστερον μετὰ τὸ ἀποστεῖλαι αὐτὸν Ναβουζαρδαν τὸν ἀρχιμάγειρον τὸν ἐκ Δαμαν ἐν τῷ λαβεῖν αὐτὸν ἐν χειροπέδαις ἐν μέσῳ ἀποικίας Ιουδα τῶν ἠγμένων εἰς Βαβυλῶνα. |
The word that came from the Lord to Jeremias after that Nabuzardan the captain of the guard had let him go out of Rama when he had taken him in manacles in the midst of the captivity of Juda [even] those who were carried to Babylon. |

The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD after Nebu'zarad'an the captain of the guard had let him go from Ramah, when he took him bound in chains along with all the captives of Jerusalem and Judah who were being exiled to Babylon. | הַדָּבָר אֲשֶׁר־הָיָה אֶל־יִרְמְיָהוּ מֵאֵת יְהוָה אַחַר שַׁלַּח אֹתֹו נְבוּזַרְאֲדָן רַב־טַבָּחִים מִן־הָרָמָה בְּקַחְתֹּו אֹתֹו וְהוּא־אָסוּר בָּאזִקִּים בְּתֹוךְ כָּל־גָּלוּת יְרוּשָׁלִַם וִיהוּדָה הַמֻּגְלִים בָּבֶלָה׃ |

Καὶ ἔλαβεν αὐτὸν ὁ ἀρχιμάγειρος καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Κύριος ὁ θεός σου ἐλάλησεν τὰ κακὰ ταῦτα ἐπὶ τὸν τόπον τοῦτον, |
And the chief captain of the guard took him and said to him The Lord thy God has pronounced all these evils upon this place: |

The captain of the guard took Jeremiah and said to him, "The LORD your God pronounced this evil against this place; | וַיִּקַּח רַב־טַבָּחִים לְיִרְמְיָהוּ וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ דִּבֶּר אֶת־הָרָעָה הַזֹּאת אֶל־הַמָּקֹום הַזֶּה׃ |

καὶ ἐποίησεν κύριος, ὅτι ἡμάρτετε αὐτῷ καὶ οὐκ ἠκούσατε αὐτοῦ τῆς φωνῆς. |
and the Lord has done it; because ye sinned against him and hearkened not to his voice. |

the LORD has brought it about, and has done as he said. Because you sinned against the LORD, and did not obey his voice, this thing has come upon you. | וַיָּבֵא וַיַּעַשׂ יְהוָה כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבֵּר כִּי־חֲטָאתֶם לַיהוָה וְלֹא־שְׁמַעְתֶּם בְּקֹולֹו וְהָיָה לָכֶם [כ= דָּבָר] [ק= הַדָּבָר] הַזֶּה׃ |

ἰδοὺ ἔλυσά σε ἀπὸ τῶν χειροπέδων τῶν ἐπὶ τὰς χεῖράς σου· εἰ καλὸν ἐναντίον σου ἐλθεῖν μετ' ἐμοῦ εἰς Βαβυλῶνα, ἧκε, καὶ θήσω τοὺς ὀφθαλμούς μου ἐπὶ σέ· |
Behold I have loosed thee from the manacles that were upon thine hands. If it seem good to thee to go with me to Babylon then will I set mine eyes upon thee. |

Now, behold, I release you today from the chains on your hands. If it seems good to you to come with me to Babylon, come, and I will look after you well; but if it seems wrong to you to come with me to Babylon, do not come. See, the whole land is before you; go wherever you think it good and right to go. | וְעַתָּה הִנֵּה פִתַּחְתִּיךָ הַיֹּום מִן־הָאזִקִּים אֲשֶׁר עַל־יָדֶךָ אִם־טֹוב בְּעֵינֶיךָ לָבֹוא אִתִּי בָבֶל בֹּא וְאָשִׂים אֶת־עֵינִי עָלֶיךָ וְאִם־רַע בְּעֵינֶיךָ לָבֹוא־אִתִּי בָבֶל חֲדָל רְאֵה כָּל־הָאָרֶץ לְפָנֶיךָ אֶל־טֹוב וְאֶל־הַיָּשָׁר בְּעֵינֶיךָ לָלֶכֶת שָׁמָּה לֵךְ׃ |

εἰ δὲ μή, ἀπότρεχε καὶ ἀνάστρεψον πρὸς Γοδολιαν υἱὸν Αχικαμ υἱοῦ Σαφαν, ὃν κατέστησεν βασιλεὺς Βαβυλῶνος ἐν γῇ Ιουδα, καὶ οἴκησον μετ' αὐτοῦ ἐν μέσῳ τοῦ λαοῦ ἐν γῇ Ιουδα· εἰς ἅπαντα τὰ ἀγαθὰ ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς σου τοῦ πορευθῆναι πορεύου. καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτῷ ὁ ἀρχιμάγειρος δῶρα καὶ ἀπέστειλεν αὐτόν. |
But if not depart; return to Godolias the son of Achicam the son of Saphan whom the king of Babylon has appointed governor in the land of Juda and dwell with him in the midst of the people in the land of Juda: to whatsoever places it seems good in thine e |

If you remain, then return to Gedali'ah the son of Ahi'kam, son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon appointed governor of the cities of Judah, and dwell with him among the people; or go wherever you think it right to go." So the captain of the guard gave him an allowance of food and a present, and let him go. | וְעֹודֶנּוּ לֹא־יָשׁוּב וְשֻׁבָה אֶל־גְּדַלְיָה בֶן־אֲחִיקָם בֶּן־שָׁפָן אֲשֶׁר הִפְקִיד מֶלֶךְ־בָּבֶל בְּעָרֵי יְהוּדָה וְשֵׁב אִתֹּו בְּתֹוךְ הָעָם אֹו אֶל־כָּל־הַיָּשָׁר בְּעֵינֶיךָ לָלֶכֶת לֵךְ וַיִּתֶּן־לֹו רַב־טַבָּחִים אֲרֻחָה וּמַשְׂאֵת וַיְשַׁלְּחֵהוּ׃ |

καὶ ἦλθεν πρὸς Γοδολιαν εἰς Μασσηφα καὶ ἐκάθισεν ἐν μέσῳ τοῦ λαοῦ τοῦ καταλειφθέντος ἐν τῇ γῇ. |
And he came to Godolias to Massepha and dwelt in the midst of his people that was left in the land. |

Then Jeremiah went to Gedali'ah the son of Ahi'kam, at Mizpah, and dwelt with him among the people who were left in the land. | וַיָּבֹא יִרְמְיָהוּ אֶל־גְּדַלְיָה בֶן־אֲחִיקָם הַמִּצְפָּתָה וַיֵּשֶׁב אִתֹּו בְּתֹוךְ הָעָם הַנִּשְׁאָרִים בָּאָרֶץ׃ ס |

Καὶ ἤκουσαν πάντες οἱ ἡγεμόνες τῆς δυνάμεως τῆς ἐν ἀγρῷ, αὐτοὶ καὶ οἱ ἄνδρες αὐτῶν, ὅτι κατέστησεν βασιλεὺς Βαβυλῶνος τὸν Γοδολιαν ἐν τῇ γῇ καὶ παρεκατέθετο αὐτῷ ἄνδρας καὶ γυναῖκας αὐτῶν, οὓς οὐκ ἀπῴκισεν εἰς Βαβυλῶνα. |
And all the leaders of the host that was in the country they and their men heard that the king of Babylon had appointed Godolias [governor] in the land and they committed to him the men and their wives whom [Nabuchodonosor had] not removed to Babylon. |

When all the captains of the forces in the open country and their men heard that the king of Babylon had appointed Gedali'ah the son of Ahi'kam governor in the land, and had committed to him men, women, and children, those of the poorest of the land who had not been taken into exile to Babylon, | וַיִּשְׁמְעוּ כָל־שָׂרֵי הַחֲיָלִים אֲשֶׁר בַּשָּׂדֶה הֵמָּה וְאַנְשֵׁיהֶם כִּי־הִפְקִיד מֶלֶךְ־בָּבֶל אֶת־גְּדַלְיָהוּ בֶן־אֲחִיקָם בָּאָרֶץ וְכִי הִפְקִיד אִתֹּו אֲנָשִׁים וְנָשִׁים וָטָף וּמִדַּלַּת הָאָרֶץ מֵאֲשֶׁר לֹא־הָגְלוּ בָּבֶלָה׃ |

καὶ ἦλθεν πρὸς Γοδολιαν εἰς Μασσηφα Ισμαηλ υἱὸς Ναθανιου καὶ Ιωαναν υἱὸς Καρηε καὶ Σαραιας υἱὸς Θαναεμεθ καὶ υἱοὶ Ωφε τοῦ Νετωφατι καὶ Ιεζονιας υἱὸς τοῦ Μοχατι, αὐτοὶ καὶ οἱ ἄνδρες αὐτῶν. |
And there came to Godolias to Massepha Ismael the son of Nathanias and Joanan son of Caree and Saraeas the son of Thanaemeth and the sons of Jophe the Netophathite and Ezonias son of the Mochathite |

they went to Gedali'ah at Mizpah - Ish'mael the son of Nethani'ah, Joha'nan the son of Kare'ah, Serai'ah the son of Tanhu'meth, the sons of Ephai the Netoph'athite, Jezani'ah the son of the Ma-ac'athite, they and their men. | וַיָּבֹאוּ אֶל־גְּדַלְיָה הַמִּצְפָּתָה וְיִשְׁמָעֵאל בֶּן־נְתַנְיָהוּ וְיֹוחָןָן וְיֹונָתָן בְּנֵי־קָרֵחַ וּשְׂרָיָה בֶן־תַּנְחֻמֶת וּבְנֵי [כ= עֹופַי] [ק= עֵיפַי] הַנְּטֹפָתִי וִיזַנְיָהוּ בֶּן־הַמַּעֲכָתִי הֵמָּה וְאַנְשֵׁיהֶם׃ |

καὶ ὤμοσεν αὐτοῖς Γοδολιας καὶ τοῖς ἀνδράσιν αὐτῶν λέγων Μὴ φοβηθῆτε ἀπὸ προσώπου τῶν παίδων τῶν Χαλδαίων· κατοικήσατε ἐν τῇ γῇ καὶ ἐργάσασθε τῷ βασιλεῖ Βαβυλῶνος, καὶ βέλτιον ἔσται ὑμῖν· |
And Godolias swore to them and to their men saying Be not afraid before the children of the Chaldeans: dwell in the land and serve the king of Babylon and it shall be better for you. |

Gedali'ah the son of Ahi'kam, son of Shaphan, swore to them and their men, saying, "Do not be afraid to serve the Chalde'ans. Dwell in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it shall be well with you. | וַיִּשָּׁבַע לָהֶם גְּדַלְיָהוּ בֶן־אֲחִיקָם בֶּן־שָׁפָן וּלְאַנְשֵׁיהֶם לֵאמֹר אַל־תִּירְאוּ מֵעֲבֹוד הַכַּשְׂדִּים שְׁבוּ בָאָרֶץ וְעִבְדוּ אֶת־מֶלֶךְ בָּבֶל וְיִיטַב לָכֶם׃ |

καὶ ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ κάθημαι ἐναντίον ὑμῶν εἰς Μασσηφα στῆναι κατὰ πρόσωπον τῶν Χαλδαίων, οἳ ἂν ἔλθωσιν ἐφ' ὑμᾶς, καὶ ὑμεῖς συναγάγετε οἶνον καὶ ὀπώραν καὶ συναγάγετε ἔλαιον καὶ βάλετε εἰς τὰ ἀγγεῖα ὑμῶν καὶ οἰκήσατε ἐν ταῖς πόλεσιν, αἷς κατεκρατήσατε. |
And behold I dwell in your presence at Massepha to stand before the Chaldeans who shall come against you: and do ye gather grapes and fruits |

As for me, I will dwell at Mizpah, to stand for you before the Chalde'ans who will come to us; but as for you, gather wine and summer fruits and oil, and store them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that you have taken." | וַאֲנִי הִנְנִי יֹשֵׁב בַּמִּצְפָּה לַעֲמֹד לִפְנֵי הַכַּשְׂדִּים אֲשֶׁר יָבֹאוּ אֵלֵינוּ וְאַתֶּם אִסְפוּ יַיִן וְקַיִץ וְשֶׁמֶן וְשִׂמוּ בִּכְלֵיכֶם וּשְׁבוּ בְּעָרֵיכֶם אֲשֶׁר־תְּפַשְׂתֶּם׃ |

καὶ πάντες οἱ Ιουδαῖοι οἱ ἐν γῇ Μωαβ καὶ ἐν υἱοῖς Αμμων καὶ οἱ ἐν τῇ Ιδουμαίᾳ καὶ οἱ ἐν πάσῃ τῇ γῇ ἤκουσαν ὅτι ἔδωκεν βασιλεὺς Βαβυλῶνος κατάλειμμα τῷ Ιουδα καὶ ὅτι κατέστησεν ἐπ' αὐτοὺς τὸν Γοδολιαν υἱὸν Αχικαμ, |
And all the Jews that were in Moab and among the children of Ammon and those [that were] in Idumea and those [that were] in all [the rest of] the country heard that the king of Babylon [had] granted a remnant to Juda |

Likewise, when all the Jews who were in Moab and among the Ammonites and in Edom and in other lands heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant in Judah and had appointed Gedali'ah the son of Ahi'kam, son of Shaphan, as governor over them, | וְגַם כָּל־הַיְּהוּדִים אֲשֶׁר־בְּמֹואָב וּבִבְנֵי־עַמֹּון וּבֶאֱדֹום וַאֲשֶׁר בְּכָל־הָאֲרָצֹות שָׁמְעוּ כִּי־נָתַן מֶלֶךְ־בָּבֶל שְׁאֵרִית לִיהוּדָה וְכִי הִפְקִיד עֲלֵיהֶם אֶת־גְּדַלְיָהוּ בֶּן־אֲחִיקָם בֶּן־שָׁפָן׃ |

καὶ ἦλθον πρὸς Γοδολιαν εἰς γῆν Ιουδα εἰς Μασσηφα καὶ συνήγαγον οἶνον καὶ ὀπώραν πολλὴν σφόδρα καὶ ἔλαιον. |
And they came to Godolias into the land of Juda to Massepha and gathered grapes and very much summer fruit and oil. |

then all the Jews returned from all the places to which they had been driven and came to the land of Judah, to Gedali'ah at Mizpah; and they gathered wine and summer fruits in great abundance. | וַיָּשֻׁבוּ כָל־הַיְּהוּדִים מִכָּל־הַמְּקֹמֹות אֲשֶׁר נִדְּחוּ־שָׁם וַיָּבֹאוּ אֶרֶץ־יְהוּדָה אֶל־גְּדַלְיָהוּ הַמִּצְפָּתָה וַיַּאַסְפוּ יַיִן וָקַיִץ הַרְבֵּה מְאֹד׃ ף |

Καὶ Ιωαναν υἱὸς Καρηε καὶ πάντες οἱ ἡγεμόνες τῆς δυνάμεως οἱ ἐν τοῖς ἀγροῖς ἦλθον πρὸς Γοδολιαν εἰς Μασσηφα |
And Joanan the son of Caree and all the leaders of the host who were in the fields came to Godolias to Massepha |

Now Joha'nan the son of Kare'ah and all the leaders of the forces in the open country came to Gedali'ah at Mizpah | וְיֹוחָןָן בֶּן־קָרֵחַ וְכָל־שָׂרֵי הַחֲיָלִים אֲשֶׁר בַּשָּׂדֶה בָּאוּ אֶל־גְּדַלְיָהוּ הַמִּצְפָּתָה׃ |

καὶ εἶπαν αὐτῷ Εἰ γνώσει γινώσκεις ὅτι Βελισα βασιλεὺς υἱῶν Αμμων ἀπέστειλεν πρὸς σὲ τὸν Ισμαηλ πατάξαι σου ψυχήν; καὶ οὐκ ἐπίστευσεν αὐτοῖς Γοδολιας. |
and said to him Dost thou indeed know that king Beleissa son of Ammon has sent Ismael to thee to slay thee? But Godolias believed them not. |

and said to him, "Do you know that Ba'alis the king of the Ammonites has sent Ish'mael the son of Nethani'ah to take your life?" But Gedali'ah the son of Ahi'kam would not believe them. | וַיֹּאמְרוּ אֵלָיו הֲיָדֹעַ תֵּדַע כִּי בַּעֲלִיס מֶלֶךְ בְּנֵי־עַמֹּון שָׁלַח אֶת־יִשְׁמָעֵאל בֶּן־נְתַנְיָה לְהַכֹּתְךָ נָפֶשׁ וְלֹא־הֶאֱמִין לָהֶם גְּדַלְיָהוּ בֶּן־אֲחִיקָם׃ |

καὶ Ιωαναν εἶπεν τῷ Γοδολια κρυφαίως ἐν Μασσηφα Πορεύσομαι δὴ καὶ πατάξω τὸν Ισμαηλ καὶ μηθεὶς γνώτω, μὴ πατάξῃ σου ψυχὴν καὶ διασπαρῇ πᾶς Ιουδα οἱ συνηγμένοι πρὸς σὲ καὶ ἀπολοῦνται οἱ κατάλοιποι Ιουδα. |
And Joanan said to Godolias secretly in Massepha I will go now and smite Ismael and let no man know [it]; lest he slay thee and all the Jews that are gathered to thee be dispersed and the remnant of Juda perish. |

Then Joha'nan the son of Kare'ah spoke secretly to Gedali'ah at Mizpah, "Let me go and slay Ish'mael the son of Nethani'ah, and no one will know it. Why should he take your life, so that all the Jews who are gathered about you would be scattered, and the remnant of Judah would perish?" | וְיֹוחָןָן בֶּן־קָרֵחַ אָמַר אֶל־גְּדַלְיָהוּ בַסֵּתֶר בַּמִּצְפָּה לֵאמֹר אֵלְכָה נָּא וְאַכֶּה אֶת־יִשְׁמָעֵאל בֶּן־נְתַנְיָה וְאִישׁ לֹא יֵדָע לָמָּה יַכֶּכָּה נֶּפֶשׁ וְנָפֹצוּ כָּל־יְהוּדָה הַנִּקְבָּצִים אֵלֶיךָ וְאָבְדָה שְׁאֵרִית יְהוּדָה׃ |

καὶ εἶπεν Γοδολιας πρὸς Ιωαναν Μὴ ποιήσῃς τὸ πρᾶγμα τοῦτο, ὅτι ψευδῆ σὺ λέγεις περὶ Ισμαηλ. |
But Godolias said to Joanan Do not the thing for thou speakest lies concerning Ismael. |

But Gedali'ah the son of Ahi'kam said to Joha'nan the son of Kare'ah, "You shall not do this thing, for you are speaking falsely of Ish'mael." | וַיֹּאמֶר גְּדַלְיָהוּ בֶן־אֲחִיקָם אֶל־יֹוחָןָן בֶּן־קָרֵחַ אַל־[כ= תַּעַשׂ] [ק= תַּעֲשֵׂה] אֶת־הַדָּבָר הַזֶּה כִּי־שֶׁקֶר אַתָּה דֹבֵר אֶל־יִשְׁמָעֵאל׃ ס |
