Ιακωβ ὁ παῖς μου, ἀντιλήμψομαι αὐτοῦ· Ισραηλ ὁ ἐκλεκτός μου, προσεδέξατο αὐτὸν ἡ ψυχή μου· ἔδωκα τὸ πνεῦμά μου ἐπ' αὐτόν, κρίσιν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν ἐξοίσει. |
Jacob is my servant I will help him: Israel is my chosen my soul has accepted him; I have put my Spirit upon him; he shall bring forth judgement to the Gentiles. |
The servant of the LORD. Is.42.1-9 |
Behold my servant whom I uphold,
my chosen, in whom my soul delights;
I have put my spirit upon him,
he will bring forth justice to the nations.
| הֵן עַבְדִּי אֶתְמָךְ־בֹּו בְּחִירִי רָצְתָה נַפְשִׁי
נָתַתִּי רוּחִי עָלָיו מִשְׁפָּט לַגֹּויִם יֹוצִיא׃ |

οὐ κεκράξεται οὐδὲ ἀνήσει, οὐδὲ ἀκουσθήσεται ἔξω ἡ φωνὴ αὐτοῦ. |
He shall not cry nor lift up [his voice] nor shall his voice be heard without. |
|
He will not cry or lift up his voice,
or make it heard in the street;
| לֹא יִצְעַק וְלֹא יִשָּׂא וְלֹא־יַשְׁמִיעַ בַּחוּץ קֹולֹו׃ |

κάλαμον τεθλασμένον οὐ συντρίψει καὶ λίνον καπνιζόμενον οὐ σβέσει, ἀλλὰ εἰς ἀλήθειαν ἐξοίσει κρίσιν. |
A bruised reed shall he not break and smoking flax shall he not quench; but he shall bring forth judgement to truth. |
|
a bruised reed he will not break,
and a dimly burning wick he will not quench;
he will faithfully bring forth justice.
| קָנֶה רָצוּץ לֹא יִשְׁבֹּור וּפִשְׁתָּה כֵהָה לֹא יְכַבֶּנָּה
לֶאֱמֶת יֹוצִיא מִשְׁפָּט׃ |

ἀναλάμψει καὶ οὐ θραυσθήσεται, ἕως ἂν θῇ ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς κρίσιν· καὶ ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματι αὐτοῦ ἔθνη ἐλπιοῦσιν. |
He shall shine out and shall not be discouraged until he have set judgement on the earth: and in his name shall the Gentiles trust. |
|
He will not fail or be discouraged
till he has established justice in the earth;
and the coastlands wait for his law.
| לֹא יִכְהֶה וְלֹא יָרוּץ
עַד־יָשִׂים בָּאָרֶץ מִשְׁפָּט וּלְתֹורָתֹו אִיִּים יְיַחֵילוּ׃ ף |

οὕτως λέγει κύριος ὁ θεὸς ὁ ποιήσας τὸν οὐρανὸν καὶ πήξας αὐτόν, ὁ στερεώσας τὴν γῆν καὶ τὰ ἐν αὐτῇ καὶ διδοὺς πνοὴν τῷ λαῷ τῷ ἐπ' αὐτῆς καὶ πνεῦμα τοῖς πατοῦσιν αὐτήν· |
Thus saith the Lord God who made the heaven and established it; who settled the earth and the things in it and gives breath to the people on it |
|
Thus says God, the LORD,
who created the heavens and stretched them out,
who spread forth the earth and what comes from it,
who gives breath to the people upon it
and spirit to those who walk in it:
| כֹּה־אָמַר הָאֵל יְהוָה בֹּורֵא הַשָּׁמַיִם וְנֹוטֵיהֶם
רֹקַע הָאָרֶץ וְצֶאֱצָאֶיהָ נֹתֵן נְשָׁמָה לָעָם עָלֶיהָ
וְרוּחַ לַהֹלְכִים בָּהּ׃ |

| 6 |
ἐγὼ κύριος ὁ θεὸς ἐκάλεσά σε ἐν δικαιοσύνῃ καὶ κρατήσω τῆς χειρός σου καὶ ἐνισχύσω σε καὶ ἔδωκά σε εἰς διαθήκην γένους, εἰς φῶς ἐθνῶν |
I the Lord God have called thee in righteousness and will hold thine hand and will strengthen thee: and I have given thee for the covenant of a race for a light of the Gentiles: |

"I am the LORD,
I have called you in righteousness,
I have taken you by the hand and kept you;
I have given you as a covenant to the people,
a light to the nations,
| אֲנִי יְהוָה קְרָאתִיךָ בְצֶדֶק וְאַחְזֵק בְּיָדֶךָ
וְאֶצָּרְךָ וְאֶתֶּנְךָ לִבְרִית עָם לְאֹור גֹּויִם׃ |

ἀνοῖξαι ὀφθαλμοὺς τυφλῶν, ἐξαγαγεῖν ἐκ δεσμῶν δεδεμένους καὶ ἐξ οἴκου φυλακῆς καθημένους ἐν σκότει. - |
to open the eyes of the blind to bring the bound and them that sit in darkness out of bonds and the prison-house. |
|
to open the eyes that are blind,
to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon,
from the prison those who sit in darkness.
| לִפְקֹחַ עֵינַיִם עִוְרֹות לְהֹוצִיא מִמַּסְגֵּר אַסִּיר
מִבֵּית כֶּלֶא יֹשְׁבֵי חֹשֶׁךְ׃ |

ἐγὼ κύριος ὁ θεός, τοῦτό μού ἐστιν τὸ ὄνομα· τὴν δόξαν μου ἑτέρῳ οὐ δώσω οὐδὲ τὰς ἀρετάς μου τοῖς γλυπτοῖς. |
I am the Lord God: that is my name: I will not give my glory to another nor my praises to graven images. |

I am the LORD,
that is my name;
my glory I give to no other,
nor my praise to graven images.
| אֲנִי יְהוָה הוּא שְׁמִי
וּכְבֹודִי לְאַחֵר לֹא־אֶתֵּן וּתְהִלָּתִי לַפְּסִילִים׃ |

τὰ ἀπ' ἀρχῆς ἰδοὺ ἥκασιν, καὶ καινὰ ἃ ἐγὼ ἀναγγελῶ, καὶ πρὸ τοῦ ἀνατεῖλαι ἐδηλώθη ὑμῖν. |
Behold the ancient things have come to pass and [so will] the new things which I tell you: yea before I tell [them] they are made known to you. |

Behold, the former things have come to pass,
and new things I now declare;
before they spring forth I tell you of them."
| הָרִאשֹׁנֹות הִנֵּה־בָאוּ וַחֲדָשֹׁות אֲנִי מַגִּיד
בְּטֶרֶם תִּצְמַחְנָה אַשְׁמִיעַ אֶתְכֶם׃ ף |

Ὑμνήσατε τῷ κυρίῳ ὕμνον καινόν, ἡ ἀρχὴ αὐτοῦ· δοξάζετε τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ ἀπ' ἄκρου τῆς γῆς, οἱ καταβαίνοντες εἰς τὴν θάλασσαν καὶ πλέοντες αὐτήν, αἱ νῆσοι καὶ οἱ κατοικοῦντες αὐτάς. |
Sing a new hymn to the Lord: ye [who are] his dominion glorify his name from the end of the earth: ye that go down to the sea and sail upon it; the islands and they that dwell in them. |
A song of praise. Is.42.10-13 |
Sing to the LORD a new song,
his praise from the end of the earth!
Let the sea roar and all that fills it,
the coastlands and their inhabitants.
| שִׁירוּ לַיהוָה שִׁיר חָדָשׁ תְּהִלָּתֹו מִקְצֵה הָאָרֶץ
יֹורְדֵי הַיָּם וּמְלֹאֹו אִיִּים וְיֹשְׁבֵיהֶם׃ |

εὐφράνθητι, ἔρημος καὶ αἱ κῶμαι αὐτῆς, ἐπαύλεις καὶ οἱ κατοικοῦντες Κηδαρ· εὐφρανθήσονται οἱ κατοικοῦντες Πέτραν, ἀπ' ἄκρων τῶν ὀρέων βοήσουσιν· |
Rejoice thou wilderness and the villages thereof the hamlets and the dwellers in Kedar: the inhabitants of the rock shall rejoice |
|
Let the desert and its cities lift up their voice,
the villages that Kedar inhabits;
let the inhabitants of Sela sing for joy,
let them shout from the top of the mountains.
| יִשְׂאוּ מִדְבָּר וְעָרָיו חֲצֵרִים תֵּשֵׁב קֵדָר
יָרֹנּוּ יֹשְׁבֵי סֶלַע מֵרֹאשׁ הָרִים יִצְוָחוּ׃ |

| 12 |
δώσουσιν τῷ θεῷ δόξαν, τὰς ἀρετὰς αὐτοῦ ἐν ταῖς νήσοις ἀναγγελοῦσιν. |
They shall give glory to God [and] shall proclaim his praises in the islands. |
|
Let them give glory to the LORD,
and declare his praise in the coastlands.
| יָשִׂימוּ לַיהוָה כָּבֹוד וּתְהִלָּתֹו בָּאִיִּים יַגִּידוּ׃ |
12 |
| 13 |
κύριος ὁ θεὸς τῶν δυνάμεων ἐξελεύσεται καὶ συντρίψει πόλεμον, ἐπεγερεῖ ζῆλον καὶ βοήσεται ἐπὶ τοὺς ἐχθροὺς αὐτοῦ μετὰ ἰσχύος. |
The Lord God of hosts shall go forth and crush the war: he shall stir up jealousy and shall shout mightily against his enemies. |

The LORD goes forth like a mighty man,
like a man of war he stirs up his fury;
he cries out, he shouts aloud,
he shows himself mighty against his foes.
| יְהוָה כַּגִּבֹּור יֵצֵא כְּאִישׁ מִלְחָמֹות יָעִיר קִנְאָה
יָרִיעַ אַף־יַצְרִיחַ עַל־אֹיְבָיו יִתְגַּבָּר׃ ס |
13 |
| 14 |
ἐσιώπησα, μὴ καὶ ἀεὶ σιωπήσομαι καὶ ἀνέξομαι; ἐκαρτέρησα ὡς ἡ τίκτουσα, ἐκστήσω καὶ ξηρανῶ ἅμα. |
I have been silent: shall I also always be silent and forbear: I have endured like a travailing [woman]: I will [now] amaze and wither at once. |
God promises to help his people. Is.42.14-17 |
For a long time I have held my peace,
I have kept still and restrained myself;
now I will cry out like a woman in travail,
I will gasp and pant.
| הֶחֱשֵׁיתִי מֵעֹולָם אַחֲרִישׁ אֶתְאַפָּק
כַּיֹּולֵדָה אֶפְעֶה אֶשֹּׁם וְאֶשְׁאַף יָחַד׃ |
14 |
| 15 |
καὶ θήσω ποταμοὺς εἰς νήσους καὶ ἕλη ξηρανῶ. |
I will make desolate mountains and hills and will dry up all their grass; and I will make the rivers islands and dry up the pools. |
|
I will lay waste mountains and hills,
and dry up all their herbage;
I will turn the rivers into islands,
and dry up the pools.
| אַחֲרִיב הָרִים וּגְבָעֹות וְכָל־עֶשְׂבָּם אֹובִישׁ
וְשַׂמְתִּי נְהָרֹות לָאִיִּים וַאֲגַמִּים אֹובִישׁ׃ |
15 |
| 16 |
καὶ ἄξω τυφλοὺς ἐν ὁδῷ, ᾗ οὐκ ἔγνωσαν, καὶ τρίβους, οὓς οὐκ ᾔδεισαν, πατῆσαι ποιήσω αὐτούς· ποιήσω αὐτοῖς τὸ σκότος εἰς φῶς καὶ τὰ σκολιὰ εἰς εὐθεῖαν· ταῦτα τὰ ῥήματα ποιήσω καὶ οὐκ ἐγκαταλείψω αὐτούς. |
And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not and I will cause them to tread paths which they have not known: I will turn darkness into light for them and crooked things into straight. These things will I do and will not forsake them. |
|
And I will lead the blind
in a way that they know not,
in paths that they have not known
I will guide them.
I will turn the darkness before them into light,
the rough places into level ground.
These are the things I will do,
and I will not forsake them.
| וְהֹולַכְתִּי עִוְרִים בְּדֶרֶךְ לֹא יָדָעוּ בִּנְתִיבֹות לֹא־יָדְעוּ אַדְרִיכֵם
אָשִׂים מַחְשָׁךְ לִפְנֵיהֶם לָאֹור וּמַעֲקַשִּׁים לְמִישֹׁור
אֵלֶּה הַדְּבָרִים עֲשִׂיתִם וְלֹא עֲזַבְתִּים׃ |
16 |
| 17 |
αὐτοὶ δὲ ἀπεστράφησαν εἰς τὰ ὀπίσω· αἰσχύνθητε αἰσχύνην, οἱ πεποιθότες ἐπὶ τοῖς γλυπτοῖς οἱ λέγοντες τοῖς χωνευτοῖς Ὑμεῖς ἐστε θεοὶ ἡμῶν. |
But they are turned back: be ye utterly ashamed that trust in graven [images] who say to the molten [images] Ye are our gods. |
|
They shall be turned back and utterly put to shame,
who trust in graven images,
who say to molten images,
"You are our gods." | נָסֹגוּ אָחֹור יֵבֹשׁוּ בֹשֶׁת הַבֹּטְחִים בַּפָּסֶל
הָאֹמְרִים לְמַסֵּכָה אַתֶּם אֱלֹהֵינוּ׃ ס |

Οἱ κωφοί, ἀκούσατε, καὶ οἱ τυφλοί, ἀναβλέψατε ἰδεῖν. |
Hear ye deaf and look up ye blind to see. |

Hear, you deaf;
and look, you blind,
that you may see!
| הַחֵרְשִׁים שְׁמָעוּ וְהַעִוְרִים הַבִּיטוּ לִרְאֹות׃ |
18 |
| 19 |
καὶ τίς τυφλὸς ἀλλ' ἢ οἱ παῖδές μου καὶ κωφοὶ ἀλλ' ἢ οἱ κυριεύοντες αὐτῶν; καὶ ἐτυφλώθησαν οἱ δοῦλοι τοῦ θεοῦ. |
And who is blind but my servants? and deaf but they that rule over them? yea the servants of God have been made blind. |
|
Who is blind but my servant,
or deaf as my messenger whom I send?
Who is blind as my dedicated one,
or blind as the servant of the LORD?
| מִי עִוֵּר כִּי אִם־עַבְדִּי וְחֵרֵשׁ כְּמַלְאָכִי אֶשְׁלָח
מִי עִוֵּר כִּמְשֻׁלָּם וְעִוֵּר כְּעֶבֶד יְהוָה׃ |
19 |
| 20 |
εἴδετε πλεονάκις, καὶ οὐκ ἐφυλάξασθε· ἠνοιγμένα τὰ ὦτα, καὶ οὐκ ἠκούσατε. |
Ye have often seen and have not taken heed; [your] ears have been opened and ye have not heard. |
|
He sees many things, but does not observe them;
his ears are open, but he does not hear.
| [כ= רָאִיתָ] [ק= רָאֹות] רַבֹּות וְלֹא תִשְׁמֹר פָּקֹוחַ אָזְנַיִם וְלֹא יִשְׁמָע׃ |

| 21 |
κύριος ὁ θεὸς ἐβούλετο ἵνα δικαιωθῇ καὶ μεγαλύνῃ αἴνεσιν. καὶ εἶδον, |
The Lord God has taken counsel that he might be justified and might magnify [his] praise. |
|
The LORD was pleased, for his righteousness' sake,
to magnify his law and make it glorious.
| יְהוָה חָפֵץ לְמַעַן צִדְקֹו יַגְדִּיל תֹּורָה וְיַאְדִּיר׃ |
21 |
| 22 |
καὶ ἐγένετο ὁ λαὸς πεπρονομευμένος καὶ διηρπασμένος· ἡ γὰρ παγὶς ἐν τοῖς ταμιείοις πανταχοῦ, καὶ ἐν οἴκοις ἅμα, ὅπου ἔκρυψαν αὐτούς, ἐγένοντο εἰς προνομήν, καὶ οὐκ ἦν ὁ ἐξαιρούμενος ἅρπαγμα, καὶ οὐκ ἦν ὁ λέγων Ἀπόδος. |
And I beheld and the people were spoiled and plundered: for [there is] a snare in the secret chambers everywhere and in the houses also where they have hidden them: they became a spoil and there was no one that delivered the prey |
|
But this is a people robbed and plundered,
they are all of them trapped in holes
and hidden in prisons;
they have become a prey with none to rescue,
a spoil with none to say, "Restore!"
| וְהוּא עַם־בָּזוּז וְשָׁסוּי הָפֵחַ בַּחוּרִים כֻּלָּם
וּבְבָתֵּי כְלָאִים הָחְבָּאוּ
הָיוּ לָבַז וְאֵין מַצִּיל מְשִׁסָּה וְאֵין־אֹמֵר הָשַׁב׃ |

| 23 |
τίς ἐν ὑμῖν, ὃς ἐνωτιεῖται ταῦτα, εἰσακούσεται εἰς τὰ ἐπερχόμενα; |
Who [is there] among you that will give ear to these things? hearken ye to the things which are coming to pass. |
|
Who among you will give ear to this,
will attend and listen for the time to come?
| מִי בָכֶם יַאֲזִין זֹאת יַקְשִׁב וְיִשְׁמַע לְאָחֹור׃ |
23 |

τίς ἔδωκεν εἰς διαρπαγὴν Ιακωβ καὶ Ισραηλ τοῖς προνομεύουσιν αὐτόν; οὐχὶ ὁ θεός, ᾧ ἡμάρτοσαν αὐτῷ καὶ οὐκ ἐβούλοντο ἐν ταῖς ὁδοῖς αὐτοῦ πορεύεσθαι οὐδὲ ἀκούειν τοῦ νόμου αὐτοῦ; |
For what did he give to Jacob up to spoil and Israel to them that plundered him? Did not God [do it] against whom they sinned? [and] they would not walk in his ways nor hearken to his law. |
|
Who gave up Jacob to the spoiler,
and Israel to the robbers?
Was it not the LORD, against whom we have sinned,
in whose ways they would not walk,
and whose law they would not obey?
| מִי־נָתַן [כ= לִמְשֹׁוסֶה] [ק= לִמְשִׁסָּה ] יַעֲקֹב וְיִשְׂרָאֵל לְבֹזְזִים
הֲלֹוא יְהוָה זוּ חָטָאנוּ לֹו וְלֹא־אָבוּ בִדְרָכָיו הָלֹוךְ וְלֹא שָׁמְעוּ בְּתֹורָתֹו׃ |
24 |
| 25 |
καὶ ἐπήγαγεν ἐπ' αὐτοὺς ὀργὴν θυμοῦ αὐτοῦ, καὶ κατίσχυσεν αὐτοὺς πόλεμος καὶ οἱ συμφλέγοντες αὐτοὺς κύκλῳ, καὶ οὐκ ἔγνωσαν ἕκαστος αὐτῶν οὐδὲ ἔθεντο ἐπὶ ψυχήν. |
So he brought upon them the fury of his wrath; and the war and those that burnt round about them prevailed against them; yet no one of them knew [it] neither did they lay [it] to heart. |
|
So he poured upon him the heat of his anger
and the might of battle;
it set him on fire round about, but he did not understand;
it burned him, but he did not take it to heart. | וַיִּשְׁפֹּךְ עָלָיו חֵמָה אַפֹּו וֶעֱזוּז מִלְחָמָה
וַתְּלַהֲטֵהוּ מִסָּבִיב וְלֹא יָדָע וַתִּבְעַר־בֹּו וְלֹא־יָשִׂים עַל־לֵב׃ ף |
