||And it came to pass after these things that the chief cupbearer of the king of Egypt and the chief baker trespassed against their lord the king of Egypt.
||JOSEPH interprets the prisoners' dreams. Gn.40.1-23
||Some time after this, the butler of the king of Egypt and his baker offended their lord the king of Egypt.||וַיְהִי אַחַר הַדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּה חָטְאוּ מַשְׁקֵה מֶלֶךְ־מִצְרַיִם וְהָאֹפֶה לַאֲדֹנֵיהֶם לְמֶלֶךְ מִצְרָיִם׃
||And Pharao was wroth with his two eunuchs with his chief cupbearer and with his chief baker.
||And Pharaoh was angry with his two officers, the chief butler and the chief baker,||וַיִּקְצֹף פַּרְעֹה עַל שְׁנֵי סָרִיסָיו עַל שַׂר הַמַּשְׁקִים וְעַל שַׂר הָאֹופִים׃
||And he put them in ward into the prison into the place whereinto Joseph had been led.
||and he put them in custody in the house of the captain of the guard, in the prison where Joseph was confined.||וַיִּתֵּן אֹתָם בְּמִשְׁמַר בֵּית שַׂר הַטַבָּחִים אֶל־בֵּית הַסֹּהַר מְקֹום אֲשֶׁר יֹוסֵף אָסוּר שָׁם׃
||And the chief keeper of the prison committed them to Joseph and he stood by them; and they were [some] days in the prison.
||The captain of the guard charged Joseph with them, and he waited on them; and they continued for some time in custody.||וַיִּפְקֹד שַׂר הַטַּבָּחִים אֶת־יֹוסֵף אִתָּם וַיְשָׁרֶת אֹתָם וַיִּהְיוּ יָמִים בְּמִשְׁמָר׃
||And they both had a dream in one night; and the vision of the dream of the chief cupbearer and chief baker who belonged to the king of Egypt who were in the prison was this.
||And one night they both dreamed - the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were confined in the prison - each his own dream, and each dream with its own meaning.||וַיַּחַלְמוּ חֲלֹום שְׁנֵיהֶם אִישׁ חֲלֹמֹו בְּלַיְלָה אֶחָד אִישׁ כְּפִתְרֹון חֲלֹמֹו הַמַּשְׁקֶה וְהָאֹפֶה אֲשֶׁר לְמֶלֶךְ מִצְרַיִם אֲשֶׁר אֲסוּרִים בְּבֵית הַסֹּהַר׃
||Joseph went in to them in the morning and saw them and they had been troubled.
||When Joseph came to them in the morning and saw them, they were troubled.||וַיָּבֹא אֲלֵיהֶם יֹוסֵף בַּבֹּקֶר וַיַּרְא אֹתָם וְהִנָּם זֹעֲפִים׃
||καὶ ἠρώτα τοὺς εὐνούχους Φαραω, οἳ ἦσαν μετ' αὐτοῦ ἐν τῇ φυλακῇ παρὰ τῷ κυρίῳ αὐτοῦ, λέγων Τί ὅτι τὰ πρόσωπα ὑμῶν σκυθρωπὰ σήμερον;
||And he asked the eunuchs of Pharao who were with him in the prison with his master saying Why is it that your countenances are sad to-day?
||So he asked Pharaoh's officers who were with him in custody in his master's house, "Why are your faces downcast today?"||וַיִּשְׁאַל אֶת־סְרִיסֵי פַרְעֹה אֲשֶׁר אִתֹּו בְמִשְׁמַר בֵּית אֲדֹנָיו לֵאמֹר מַדּוּעַ פְּנֵיכֶם רָעִים הַיֹּום׃
||And they said to him We have seen a dream and there is no interpreter of it. And Joseph said to them Is not the interpretation of them through god? tell [them] than to me.
||They said to him, "We have had dreams, and there is no one to interpret them." And Joseph said to them, "Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell them to me, I pray you."||וַיֹּאמְרוּ אֵלָיו חֲלֹום חָלַמְנוּ וּפֹתֵר אֵין אֹתֹו וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵהֶם יֹוסֵף הֲלֹוא לֵאלֹהִים פִּתְרֹנִים סַפְּרוּ־נָא לִי׃
||And the chief cupbearer related his dream to Joseph and said In my dream a vine was before me.
||So the chief butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, "In my dream there was a vine before me,||וַיְסַפֵּר שַׂר־הַמַּשְׁקִים אֶת־חֲלֹמֹו לְיֹוסֵף וַיֹּאמֶר לֹו בַּחֲלֹומִי וְהִנֵּה־גֶפֶן לְפָנָי׃
||And in the vine [were] three stems; and it budding shot forth blossoms; the clusters of grapes were ripe.
||and on the vine there were three branches; as soon as it budded, its blossoms shot forth, and the clusters ripened into grapes.||וּבַגֶּפֶן שְׁלֹשָׁה שָׂרִיגִם וְהִיא כְפֹרַחַת עָלְתָה נִצָּהּ הִבְשִׁילוּ אַשְׁכְּלֹתֶיהָ עֲנָבִים׃
||And the cup of Pharao was in my hand; and I took the bunch of grapes and squeezed it into the cup and gave the cup into Pharao's hand.
||Pharaoh's cup was in my hand; and I took the grapes and pressed them into Pharaoh's cup, and placed the cup in Pharaoh's hand."||וְכֹוס פַּרְעֹה בְּיָדִי וָאֶקַּח אֶת־הָעֲנָבִים וָאֶשְׂחַט אֹתָם אֶל־כֹּוס פַּרְעֹה וָאֶתֵּן אֶת־הַכֹּוס עַל־כַּף פַּרְעֹה׃
||And Joseph said to him This is the interpretation of it. The three stems are three days.
||Then Joseph said to him, "This is its interpretation: the three branches are three days;||וַיֹּאמֶר לֹו יֹוסֵף זֶה פִּתְרֹנֹו שְׁלֹשֶׁת הַשָּׂרִגִים שְׁלֹשֶׁת יָמִים הֵם׃
||Yet three days and Pharao shall remember thy office and he shall restore thee to thy place of chief cupbearer and thou shalt give the cup of Pharao into his hand according to thy former high place as thou wast wont to be cupbearer.
||within three days Pharaoh will lift up your head and restore you to your office; and you shall place Pharaoh's cup in his hand as formerly, when you were his butler.||בְּעֹוד שְׁלֹשֶׁת יָמִים יִשָּׂא פַרְעֹה אֶת־רֹאשֶׁךָ וַהֲשִׁיבְךָ עַל־כַּנֶּךָ וְנָתַתָּ כֹוס־פַּרְעֹה בְּיָדֹו כַּמִּשְׁפָּט הָרִאשֹׁון אֲשֶׁר הָיִיתָ מַשְׁקֵהוּ׃
||But remember me of thyself when it shall be well with thee and thou shalt deal mercifully with me and thou shalt make mention of me to Pharao and thou shalt bring me forth out of this dungeon.
||But remember me, when it is well with you, and do me the kindness, I pray you, to make mention of me to Pharaoh, and so get me out of this house.||כִּי אִם־זְכַרְתַּנִי אִתְּךָ כַּאֲשֶׁר יִיטַב לָךְ וְעָשִׂיתָ־נָּא עִמָּדִי חָסֶד וְהִזְכַּרְתַּנִי אֶל־פַּרְעֹה וְהֹוצֵאתַנִי מִן־הַבַּיִת הַזֶּה׃
||For surely I was stolen away out of the land of the Hebrews and here I have done nothing but they have cast me into this pit.
||For I was indeed stolen out of the land of the Hebrews; and here also I have done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon."||כִּי־גֻנֹּב גֻּנַּבְתִּי מֵאֶרֶץ הָעִבְרִים וְגַם־פֹּה לֹא־עָשִׂיתִי מְאוּמָה כִּי־שָׂמוּ אֹתִי בַּבֹּור׃
||And the chief baker saw that he interpreted aright; and he said to Joseph I also saw a dream and methought I took up on my head three baskets of mealy food.
||When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was favorable, he said to Joseph, "I also had a dream: there were three cake baskets on my head,||וַיַּרְא שַׂר־הָאֹפִים כִּי טֹוב פָּתָר וַיֹּאמֶר אֶל־יֹוסֵף אַף־אֲנִי בַּחֲלֹומִי וְהִנֵּה שְׁלֹשָׁה סַלֵּי חֹרִי עַל־רֹאשִׁי׃
||And in the upper basket there was the work of the baker of every kind which Pharao eats; and the fowls of the air ate them out of the basket that was on my head.
||and in the uppermost basket there were all sorts of baked food for Pharaoh, but the birds were eating it out of the basket on my head."||וּבַסַּל הָעֶלְיֹון מִכֹּל מַאֲכַל פַּרְעֹה מַעֲשֵׂה אֹפֶה וְהָעֹוף אֹכֵל אֹתָם מִן־הַסַּל מֵעַל רֹאשִׁי׃
||And Joseph answered and said to him This is the interpretation of it; The three baskets are three days.
||And Joseph answered, "This is its interpretation: the three baskets are three days;||וַיַּעַן יֹוסֵף וַיֹּאמֶר זֶה פִּתְרֹנֹו שְׁלֹשֶׁת הַסַּלִּים שְׁלֹשֶׁת יָמִים הֵם׃
||Yet three days and Pharao shall take away thy head from off thee and shall hang thee on a tree and the birds of the sky shall eat thy flesh from off thee.
||within three days Pharaoh will lift up your head - from you! - and hang you on a tree; and the birds will eat the flesh from you."||בְּעֹוד שְׁלֹשֶׁת יָמִים יִשָּׂא פַרְעֹה אֶת־רֹאשְׁךָ מֵעָלֶיךָ וְתָלָה אֹותְךָ עַל־עֵץ וְאָכַל הָעֹוף אֶת־בְּשָׂרְךָ מֵעָלֶיךָ׃
||And it came to pass on the third day that it was Pharao's birth-day and he made a banquet for all his servants and he remembered the office of the cupbearer and the office of the baker in the midst of his servants.
||On the third day, which was Pharaoh's birthday, he made a feast for all his servants, and lifted up the head of the chief butler and the head of the chief baker among his servants.||וַיְהִי בַּיֹּום הַשְּׁלִישִׁי יֹומ הֻלֶּדֶת אֶת־פַּרְעֹה וַיַּעַשׂ מִשְׁתֶּה לְכָל־עֲבָדָיו וַיִּשָּׂא אֶת־רֹאשׁ שַׂר הַמַּשְׁקִים וְאֶת־רֹאשׁ שַׂר הָאֹפִים בְּתֹוךְ עֲבָדָיו׃
||And he restored the chief cupbearer to his office and he gave the cup into Pharao's hand.
||He restored the chief butler to his butlership, and he placed the cup in Pharaoh's hand;||וַיָּשֶׁב אֶת־שַׂר הַמַּשְׁקִים עַל־מַשְׁקֵהוּ וַיִּתֵּן הַכֹּוס עַל־כַּף פַּרְעֹה׃
||And he hanged the chief baker as Joseph interpreted to them.
||but he hanged the chief baker, as Joseph had interpreted to them.||וְאֵת שַׂר הָאֹפִים תָּלָה כַּאֲשֶׁר פָּתַר לָהֶם יֹוסֵף׃
||Yet did not the chief cupbearer remember Joseph but forgot him.
||Yet the chief butler did not remember Joseph, but forgot him.||וְלֹא־זָכַר שַׂר־הַמַּשְׁקִים אֶת־יֹוסֵף וַיִּשְׁכָּחֵהוּ׃ ף
