15ΙΩΒJOB (Brenton-Septuagint)Reference

1Ὑπολαβὼν δὲ Ελιφας ὁ Θαιμανίτης λέγει
Then Eliphaz the Thaemanite answered and saidTHE SECOND DIALOGUE. Jb.15.1-21.34. Eliphaz. Jb.15.1-35
2Πότερον σοφὸς ἀπόκρισιν δώσει συνέσεως,
πνεύματος καὶ ἐνέπλησεν πόνον γαστρὸς
Will a wise man give for answer a [mere] breath of wisdom? and does he fill up the pain of his belly 
3ἐλέγχων ἐν ῥήμασιν, οἷς οὐ δεῖ,
ἐν λόγοις, οἷς οὐδὲν ὄφελος;
reasoning with improper sayings and with words wherein is no profit? 
4οὐ καὶ σὺ ἀπεποιήσω φόβον,
συνετελέσω δὲ ῥήματα τοιαῦτα ἔναντι τοῦ κυρίου;
Hast not thou moreover cast off fear and accomplished such words before the Lord? 
5ἔνοχος εἶ ῥήμασιν στόματός σου,
οὐδὲ διέκρινας ῥήματα δυναστῶν·
Thou art guilty by the words of thy mouth neither hast thou discerned the words of the mighty. 
6ἐλέγξαι σε τὸ σὸν στόμα καὶ μὴ ἐγώ,
τὰ δὲ χείλη σου καταμαρτυρήσουσίν σου.
Let thine own mouth and not me reprove thee: and thy lips shall testify against thee. 
7τί γάρ; μὴ πρῶτος ἀνθρώπων ἐγενήθης;
ἢ πρὸ θινῶν ἐπάγης;
What! art thou the first man that was born? or wert thou established before the hills? 
8ἦ σύνταγμα κυρίου ἀκήκοας,
εἰς δὲ σὲ ἀφίκετο σοφία;
Or hast thou heard the ordinance of the Lord? or has God used thee as [his] counsellor? and has wisdom come [only] to thee? 
9τί γὰρ οἶδας, ὃ οὐκ οἴδαμεν;
ἢ τί συνίεις, ὃ οὐχὶ καὶ ἡμεῖς;
For what knowest thou that we know not? or what understandest thou which we do not also? 
10καί γε πρεσβύτης καί γε παλαιὸς ἐν ἡμῖν βαρύτερος τοῦ πατρός σου ἡμέραις.
Truly among us [are] both the old and very aged man more advanced in days than thy father. 
11ὀλίγα ὧν ἡμάρτηκας μεμαστίγωσαι,
μεγάλως ὑπερβαλλόντως λελάληκας.
Thou hast been scourged for [but] few of thy sins: thou hast spoken haughtily [and] extravagantly. 
12τί ἐτόλμησεν ἡ καρδία σου,
ἢ τί ἐπήνεγκαν οἱ ὀφθαλμοί σου,
What has thine heart dared? or what have thine eyes [aimed at] 
13ὅτι θυμὸν ἔρρηξας ἔναντι κυρίου,
ἐξήγαγες δὲ ἐκ στόματος ῥήματα τοιαῦτα;
that thou hast vented [thy] rage before the Lord and delivered such words from [thy] mouth? 
14τίς γὰρ ὢν βροτός, ὅτι ἔσται ἄμεμπτος,
ἢ ὡς ἐσόμενος δίκαιος γεννητὸς γυναικός;
For who being a mortal [is such] that he shall be blameless? or [who that is] born of a woman that he should be just? 
15εἰ κατὰ ἁγίων οὐ πιστεύει,
οὐρανὸς δὲ οὐ καθαρὸς ἐναντίον αὐτοῦ.
Forasmuch as he trusts not his saints; and the heaven is not pure before him. 
16ἔα δὲ ἐβδελυγμένος καὶ ἀκάθαρτος,
ἀνὴρ πίνων ἀδικίας ἴσα ποτῷ.
Alas then abominable and unclean is man drinking unrighteousness as a draught. 
17ἀναγγελῶ δέ σοι, ἄκουέ μου·
ἃ δὴ ἑώρακα, ἀναγγελῶ σοι,
But I will tell thee hearken to me; I will tell thee now what I have seen; 
18ἃ σοφοὶ ἐροῦσιν καὶ οὐκ ἔκρυψαν πατέρας αὐτῶν·
things wise men say and their fathers have not hidden. 
19αὐτοῖς μόνοις ἐδόθη ἡ γῆ,
καὶ οὐκ ἐπῆλθεν ἀλλογενὴς ἐπ' αὐτούς.
To them alone the earth was given and no stranger came upon them. 
20πᾶς ὁ βίος ἀσεβοῦς ἐν φροντίδι,
ἔτη δὲ ἀριθμητὰ δεδομένα δυνάστῃ,
All the life of the ungodly [is spent] in care and the years granted to the oppressor are numbered. 
21ὁ δὲ φόβος αὐτοῦ ἐν ὠσὶν αὐτοῦ·
ὅταν δοκῇ ἤδη εἰρηνεύειν, ἥξει αὐτοῦ ἡ καταστροφή.
And his terror is in his ears: just when he seems to be at peace his overthrow will come. 
22μὴ πιστευέτω ἀποστραφῆναι ἀπὸ σκότους·
ἐντέταλται γὰρ ἤδη εἰς χεῖρας σιδήρου,
Let him not trust that he shall return from darkness for he has been already made over to the power of the sword. 
23κατατέτακται δὲ εἰς σῖτα γυψίν·
οἶδεν δὲ ἐν ἑαυτῷ ὅτι μένει εἰς πτῶμα.
ἡμέρα δὲ αὐτὸν σκοτεινὴ στροβήσει,
And he has been appointed to be food for vultures; and he knows within himself that he is doomed to be a carcass: and a dark day shall carry him away as with a whirlwind. 
24ἀνάγκη δὲ καὶ θλῖψις αὐτὸν καθέξει
ὥσπερ στρατηγὸς πρωτοστάτης πίπτων.
Distress also and anguish shall come upon him: he shall fall as a captain in the first rank. 
25ὅτι ἦρκεν χεῖρας ἐναντίον τοῦ κυρίου,
ἔναντι δὲ κυρίου παντοκράτορος ἐτραχηλίασεν,
For he has lifted his hands against the Lord and he has hardened his neck against the Almighty Lord. 
26ἔδραμεν δὲ ἐναντίον αὐτοῦ ὕβρει,
ἐν πάχει νώτου ἀσπίδος αὐτοῦ,
And he has run against him with insolence on the thickness of the back of his shield. 
2713ὅτι ἐκάλυψεν τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ ἐν στέατι αὐτοῦ·
καὶ ἐποίησεν περιστόμιον ἐπὶ τῶν μηρίων.
For he has covered his face with his fat and made layers of fat upon his thighs. 
28αὐλισθείη δὲ πόλεις ἐρήμους,
εἰσέλθοι δὲ εἰς οἴκους ἀοικήτους·
ἃ δὲ ἐκεῖνοι ἡτοίμασαν, ἄλλοι ἀποίσονται.
And let him lodge in desolate cities and enter into houses without inhabitant: and what they have prepared others shall carry away. 
29οὔτε μὴ πλουτισθῇ, οὔτε μὴ μείνῃ αὐτοῦ τὰ ὑπάρχοντα·
οὐ μὴ βάλῃ ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν σκιὰν
Neither shall he at all grow rich nor shall his substance remain: he shall not cast a shadow upon the earth. 
30οὐδὲ μὴ ἐκφύγῃ τὸ σκότος·
τὸν βλαστὸν αὐτοῦ μαράναι ἄνεμος,
ἐκπέσοι δὲ αὐτοῦ τὸ ἄνθος.
Neither shall he in any wise escape the darkness: let the wind blast his blossom and let his flower fall off. 
31μὴ πιστευέτω ὅτι ὑπομενεῖ,
κενὰ γὰρ ἀποβήσεται αὐτῷ·
Let him not think that he shall endure; for his end shall be vanity. 
32ἡ τομὴ αὐτοῦ πρὸ ὥρας φθαρήσεται,
καὶ ὁ ῥάδαμνος αὐτοῦ οὐ μὴ πυκάσῃ·
His harvest shall perish before the time and his branch shall not flourish. 
33τρυγηθείη δὲ ὥσπερ ὄμφαξ πρὸ ὥρας,
ἐκπέσοι δὲ ὡς ἄνθος ἐλαίας.
And let him be gathered as the unripe grape before the time and let him fall as the blossom of the olive. 
34μαρτύριον γὰρ ἀσεβοῦς θάνατος,
πῦρ δὲ καύσει οἴκους δωροδεκτῶν.
For death is the witness of an ungodly man and fire shall burn the houses of them that receive gifts. 
35ἐν γαστρὶ δὲ λήμψεται ὀδύνας,
ἀποβήσεται δὲ αὐτῷ κενά,
ἡ δὲ κοιλία αὐτοῦ ὑποίσει δόλον.
And he shall conceive sorrows and his end shall be vanity and his belly shall bear deceit.

The alternative readings of the LXX - Judges (Alexandrinus), Daniel, Susanna & Bel (LXX received text), and Tobit (Sinaiticus [not printed in Swete]) as separate book references so that they can be viewed as an alternative text in parallel with the primary text.
(I have reversed the Swete presentation for Daniel, Susanna, Bel by listing in the later Theodotion LXX text as the main text.)
The LXX cross references to the Hebrew Bible have been extensively revised using those set out in Swete's 'Old Testament in Greek' publications between 1894 and 1909, amended in part to agree with verses as printed in the Biblia Hebraica 1937 publication).
Some verse cross references in Swete's had to be amended to agree with the BHS verse numbering, and there may well be some mismatches that I haven't yet picked up on. (If you find any errors please e-mail me.)

The Septuagint in English ( translated by Sir Lancelot CL Brenton) - is used here only for the books of the Hebrew Bible.
The Revised Standard Version: This generally follows the Hebrew Bible for the canonical OT so I have included the RSV Aprocrypha for the Greek books not covered by Brenton.
Ecclesiasticus - Sirach Chs.30-36: The text of these chapters from 30.24 to 36.16, is disordered.
I have followed Swete's verse numbering for the greek text.
Also, the RSV verse numbering differs from the NRSV.
The NRSV appears to have followed Swete's numbering here, so I have re-ordered the RSV to agree with both the NRSV & Swete for these chapters.
